This whole concept is awesome and I feel like I’m living in the future! Very pleased with these, have 8 bulbs & a bridge so far. One of the things I really like is that while the light has to be switched on for the hue to work, you can over ride the hue with the switch. What I mean by that is that if you walk into a room and have the light on, but have used hue to turn it off, or even to dim it, if you actually physically turn the light off & back on, it will come on at full brightness (and the app will recognize that you have done so). This is a great feature because you don’t necessarily always have your phone on you at home. The ability to connect multiple bulbs to the same hue switch is great, I have two bedside lamps and being able to dim or brighten them simultaneously is very aesthetically pleasing. My only concern is that I hope that the technology doesn’t speed away before my lightbulbs burn out. They are rated to last 22 years, if that’s the case they are clearly worth the price. If the hue app keeps updating and newer bulbs and bridges continue to come out often, I hope they will continue to support this version.

I use these bulbs along with my Echo's in my home. With the Alexa app I have them setup. All I do is speak the magic word's and they automatically go on and the brightness level I want them at. They are dimmable. You do not need a dimmer switch. As I say its built in. You can also turn them on & off from the Alexa app. When I show people using the app my wife knows because the lights start going on and off. It is a good thing for security purposes and safety before getting into the home. I got my first bulb free with my Echo Hub purchase. I was hooked there after. I put them in lamps (regular pull chain to turn on & off) that I have in my home. The brightness and quality is the same as any other comparable L.E.D. bulb. Being L.E.D. it definitely saves money on your electric bill. The bulbs have a 'cool' factor to them as well as a practical factor to them. I recommend them especially if you have an Echo, G00g!e assistant (the other guy), etc.

I purchased the starter pack (required, as you need the hub if you want to get these to work with Alexa) from the Treasure Truck recently and found that two bulbs wouldn't cut it! I needed to have more lights as i found more and more uses for Internet and/or app controlled lighting solutions. First off, these are not WET RATED, but I have taken the risk of putting them in each of my porch lights. So far my experience has been good, but it has rained very little since install. Using the Hue app, I was able to set the lights to automatically turn on at sunset and off at sunrise, which is something I struggle with. I remember to turn the porch lights on at bed, but forget to turn them off when I wake. These do it for me, which is great. I also placed on in my hallway to use as a nightlight. The brightness can adjust from 1% - 100% from the app or via Alexa, and it's a great night light replacement. My kids prefer this light over a traditional nightlight due to the light that it emits over an entire area versus a small area against a wall. The lights are soft white, so not overpowering, but they're pretty bright. They look great on the porches and are a great addition to my smart home. If you've been looking at getting smart lights, definitely start with the starter pack Philips Hue White A19 60W Equivalent Dimmable LED Smart Bulb Starter Kit (2 A19 60W White Bulbs and 1 Hub Compatible with Amazon Alexa Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant). Then, come back and get these when you realize how amazing the two lights in the starter pack are and need more (like me).

Well everyone has pretty much said what I would say. Both are very much worth the money. As soon as I had the Echo setup which was actually pretty quick, I set up my 1st smart light bulb and IMMEDIATELY ordered four more! And will continue to automate my house. I love that lamps that once could not be dimmed can be now. The one by the bed was always too bright, now with these bulbs I'm able to dim them via the Alexa app on my phone. As soon as you add ONE bulb you're going to see ALL the places that this technology can be used. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! As for the Echo Plus, love it too. Good quality sound when listening to music or TV shows (attached to the iPad via bluetooth). I have a JBL Flip 4 speaker and I compare the two and they are very close, although perhaps the JBL speaker has better bass. But I love that the Plus has the built in Zeebee hub to manage all the smart things in the house and now when buying other things I will make sure they work with the Echo. A little tip...spend some time and write up a all the different commands you can give Alexa as there's no way you'll be able to remember them all. Plus if you sit down with Word and browse all the sites that have examples of what to try with Alexa, copy and paste them in the word doc and the next thing you'll know is you'll have a FOUR page document of all sorts of commands. Which of course will lead to other ones that you'll try. It's fun. Many times when my wife and I are preparing meals we'll play Who want to be a Millionaire , or Jeopardy, or....on and on...so many things to do. Yeah..get this..totally worth it. Or...you could get the echo spot with is $20, buy the JBL Flip 4 speaker, $105, and a bridge for the Philips lights, $45....uh oh...now you've spent more than you would have just buying this package and you still wouldn't have the light bulb!!!

I bought these for my living room for when we're all snuggled up watching a movie and want to keep the fan on but don't want to turn the lights off. Yes, we want to be lazy haha. We have these at work and I've gotten spoiled so why not have that luxury at home? I did not realize you needed to buy the hub which I only found in a starter kit with two more bulbs so I bought that and now we have 6 bulbs and eventually the whole house will have them, maybe the colored bulbs in bedrooms! The app is a little confusing at first but once you get a little familiar with it you'll move thru it with a breeze. We love dimming them and changing the brightness! These work well, we're very pleased to move into the futuristic times with smart lights!!

Edit: Of late, I was having issues between HomeKit and my Hue hub/bulbs, I tried a lot of things router tweaks etc. I finally stumbled on a post about its control channels. I went to the Hue app and changed its control channel for my bulbs to 25 and now I have great happy results out of HomeKit and Siri. If your having issues try changing the channel, I wish I had done it sooner and alleviated some of my wifi issues. Its a fairly painless process, but you need to follow the directions in the Hue app. Original: I started a couple months ago swapping my bulbs to hue and purchased a single kit w/ 4 bulbs and a hub then an additional 4 bulbs. I had previously held out as I thought the price wouldn't be worth the usefulness. I had a few smart switches over the years and saw no need to replace them. . Boy I was wrongI am so happy to be able to use HomeKit and scenes with the hue. Now my lights fade in at wake up time and a few exterior lights fade out for the evening. It was funny to hear the wife tell me we needed a few more the other evening. She had some other lights she wanted to be able to control. Major plus for this geeky husband and father. This time I purchase 2 additional sets of bulbs from Amazon. Amazons price point was $10 less than local, when I purchased this set of bulbs. A definite plus. I did have one bulb that was evidently bad, as it started slowly not being reachable, then started flickering on and off. Finally it wouldn't even come on. Philips has a good warranty on the lights and we are in contact with them to get a replacement out to us. I will certainly purchase more lights as the need arises.

I recently decided to install ‘smart home’ lighting and other devices in my home, and after some research I decided to give the Philips Hue system a try. I also have quite a few basic non-smart LED bulbs in my home. I’m very happy with the Hue system so far although it is going to take some time to fully understand all of the ways it can be varied and used. I use mine together with the Apple HomeKit system, and the integration with HomeKit has been automatic and without difficulty. There is a huge difference in the price of individual bulbs depending on what they are capable of, beginning with basic LED bulbs that don’t offer the integration with the Hue system (remote operation and programming), and continuing to bulbs that are a part of the Hue system and have features including full color control (most expensive). The Philips Hue system requires the use of a Hue hub connected to your home Wi-Fi system to connect and control Hue specific bulbs and accessories, and there are starter kits to obtain the hub together with two or four bulbs. Initially it took some time to understand the differences between the various Philips Hue bulbs, so here is a quick intro. There are five basic Philips LED bulb types (both Hue and non-Hue bulbs). ALL ARE 60W equivalent, Dimmable, E26 type (standard light bulb): - 1. (NOT Hue) 800 lumen Warm 2700K - 2. (NOT Hue) 800 lumen Daylight 5000K - 3. Hue 840 lumen Warm 2700K - 4. Hue 800 lumen White ambiance 2200-6500K - 5. Hue 800 lumen White and color ambiance 2000-6500K plus ’16 million’ colors All of the bulbs above use approximately 9-10 watts at maximum brightness There is a huge difference in prices for the 5 types listed above, from about 2-3 dollars per bulb (1 & 2 above), to 10 per bulb (3 above), 20 per bulb (4 above), and finally 40 per bulb for all the bells and whistles (5 above). I quickly learned that if I don’t need to vary the ‘warmness’ of the light in a certain room or area, then all I need is the basic LED bulb, either warm or daylight, and it doesn’t necessarily need to be a Hue bulb if I don’t need to control the bulbs from an App. The brightness can always be controlled from a LED compatible wall mounted dimmer switch or other smart home dimmer that can integrate into the smart home system. If I want lighting in a certain area or room to have the flexibility to change from warm white to bright daylight, in addition to dimming, then the White ambiance style Hue bulb works great. Finally, if I want to add special effects, varying colors and everything imaginable about the lighting, then the White and color ambiance bulbs give that capability. Starter Kits I started with this basic kit, which includes four of the White ambience bulbs plus the hub: Hue Starter Kit 4 x 800 lumen White ambiance 2200-6500K plus hub Other starter kits are available, either with two or four basic white Hue bulbs, or with two of the White and color ambiance bulbs. Lightstrips I’ve installed the Hue lightstrips under the counters in our kitchen, and they are terrific. I've also installed them under the sides of the bed in our bedroom, to provide night and ambience lighting: Hue LightStrip 1600 lumen White and color ambiance 2000-6500K plus ’16 million’ colors The lightstrips have turned out to be one of the more enjoyable parts of the system and are very easy to install. Accessories and Control Options All of the Hue products can be controlled using the App, and there is a huge amount of flexibility available in how the lights are programmed. They can be organized by room or in other ways, and controlled in groups or separately. Hue bulbs are not intended to be used with a wall mounted dimmer switch unless the dimmer is specifically intended to be used with the Hue system. Once a light is turned off using the wall switch, then it can’t be turned back on using the Hue controls (power needs to be supplied to the bulb at all times in order for the bulb to be controllable by the Hue system, even if the bulb is turned off. This is not intuitive at first and is a part of why installing these kinds of bulbs in a home requires considerable thought about how you will use them and what is most convenient for any particular situation). The Hue dimmer switch / remote is a handy accessory to have, if you want to be able to control lights without using the App: Hue Smart Dimmer Switch Hue Smart Dimmer Switch plus 1 800 lumen White ambience 220-6500K I have two of these dimmer switches and use one to control the undercounter lights in our kitchen. For those particular lights it is the only way they can be controlled all at the same time since they plug into different outlets and the outlets are not controlled by any wall switches. There is also a ‘tap switch’ available, and a motion sensor. I have not tried either of those products yet. There is a lot more that could be said about this Hue system but my intention here is only to give a quick introduction to the types of lighting available and some of the ways in which they can be used.

Automation is so cool! Can be a bit of an issue if you have several lights you're controlling and you don't think through the naming process first, it will come back to haunt you and you'll dive into a rabbit hole that's infuriating to correct. You need to be specific with each light and do not create a "scene" with the same name as any of the lights or else Alexa will drive you nuts saying there are multiple "Kitchen" lights (when in reality there is only one but I had a few I made in testing which light was which that seemed to disappear when I deleted them but stayed in there somewhere. I had to uninstall the Hue Program and reinstall it. Then ALL of the "Kitchen lights" I had set up where listed again so I deleted them all again and asked Alexa to discover devices and wha-la, they're all there and working correctly now! (Which as a side note, did no one think to make an App that works properly to set up and control these lights before they started selling the lights? Just wondering. At this time, there are 3 apps that come up when you ask for Phillips Hue lights app and none of them seem to be that good although serviceable)

I started with just a few of these bulbs and find I keep adding more around the house. It's nice to be able to turn off all the lights on a floor or to climb in bed and then ask Alexa to turn off the bedroom lights. We use the timers to make sure things are off at night. When we first got these bulbs, it took a little bit to figure out how to name things and set them up but now that I have done it a few times, I can easily add more bulbs and set up more rooms and routines. The lights can be controlled by the app but after they are set up, we do 95% of our interaction with them through Alexa. I like the ability to dim these lights. The one thing I wish was a little better is that dimming them to 5% is almost the same brightness as 20% or 25%. I would love to have them get much more dim at the bottom end. The grandkids use them as a nightlight in their bedrooms when they come to visit but dimming them to 5% still leaves the rooms brighter than I would prefer.

The wife purchased these with (you can probably see my review on it as well) Philips Hue Bridge/bulb bundle...... and she has created an addiction. I can't wait to Borg out my house. It is so much fun to have these in my house and hooked to my Echo. First of all - You'll know when skynet goes online because you'll hear me locked in combat with my cyborg house. It's also just really convenient to have all my lights on my wife's schedule. She leaves very early to work and she no longer forgets to turn off any lights in the home/garage. It's fantastic! My FAVORITE part is not the lights ability to be on a schedule, but the fact that they dim and will remain dim when used next!!!!! This means that I set my bathroom light to 10% and in the morning I am greeted with a soft and gentle glow while I enjoy my morning routine. I am not being bear-maced in the eyes with light first thing in the a.m. !!! It's the best.
