Seems Expensive - Until You Need It

Almost choked on the price per square inch but have heard rave 2ndhand accounts. Put it in my GO bag where it sat at least 6 months (box flattened to save space but still protecting take from fokding then sealed in zip lock). Offsite, my not-black indestructible technical shell, which cost more than my first car, made of tearproof unobtanium, tore - about 2 in long. I dried the area, cut a 1.5 x 3.5 inch strip with rounded edges, placed it INSIDE the tear, sealing first one side, than the other, with a tiny overlap. It's gone through at least 2 hand washes and looks like a scratch (if u can even see it). I haven't even bothered to have it sewn and epoxied because the tape works. The rounding is essential otherwise I can see how corners would peel because of the tensile properties of the tape. I had the time to make a nice looking field repair (.5 h) and the scissors, and the motivation (I'm cheap and the shell was almost new). If it been in a high-stress go go go environment, I could have had a fuctional though less aesthetically appealing field repair by wiping the area dry, ripping the tape, applying the tape pressing hard and go (5 min). According to the instructions (I believe it) the tape is still 'workable' for 24h or so. If i had to do the 5 minute repair, I'd do that and before sack time I'd just peel back the corners and trim into an irregular octagon (lop off 4 corners at a 45 degree angle). I still have enough tape for several repairs.

but it stuck much better than duct tape

I was on trail about 30 days this summer, I used this to repair EVERYTHING. My quilt had a rip and the down was coming out, tenacious tape to the rescue I almost tore the cinch cord clean off my tent stuff sack one morning, tenacious tape to the rescue My hiking partner accidentally ripped the mesh ceiling on her tent, tenacious tape to the rescue I found a small tear in my inflatable lantern, causing it to unintentionally inflate during the day, tenacious tape to the rescue My trail runner got a large tear near the toe after I got too close to a sharp rock, tenacious tape to the...well, it couldn't fix this one, but it stuck much better than duct tape! And even after all of that, I still have 1/4 of the roll left. Now, understand you aren't getting a ton of tape. It's a small roll compared to a roll of duct tape or something. But it's definitely enough for those small tears, splits, punctures, etc. It's super strong (the tent stuff sack that I almost ripped apart? it's holding up fantastically after 20 days of additional abuse) and water resistant (a small repair to a hole in my rain kilt has been through the washer four times now) I already ordered a second roll to keep as backup. If I have any gear failures I want to make sure I have this available

This is really good stuff!

This is the stuff right here folks! The real deal! It really is tenacious in the way it holds, and its durability. I've used this to repair holes on an old Kelty external frame pack, and they've held for years. I patched a very expensive self inflating sleeping mat, and it too has held strong for dozens of nights in the wilderness. I'm here to buy more, because I just recently used the last of it to patch a cut in my heavy duty commercial vinyl lawnmower seat. I cut a small rectangle piece to just fit over the slice, then I cut a larger round patch to go over that, making sure to cover all the corners of the first patch. I did the sleeping mat the same way. If you're able, cut the final patch round in shape because corner are more likely to get snagged and peeled up. Although it it isn't easy to try and peel this stuff, I like to mitigate the risk to begin with. As long as you apply it firmly and press out any little air bubbles, it's barely noticeable once applied since it's clear. The finish is somewhere between matte, and shiny so it's great for a wide variety of applications, but I love it for vinyl and nylon repairs. For something like a garment or backpack... I recommend patching both sides (inside and out) if you're able. That way any loose or frayed material will be stabilized from both sides providing a more secure permanent patch. Don't get me wrong... I love my duct/Duck tape, but it isn't always the best suited material for every application.

Amazing product as everyone states, bought it to fix a small rip I got from brushing against the wall with then 48hr old Arc'teryx down jacket!! I initially sent the jacket back to Arc'teryx to repair and they heat sealed the small rip in the jacket. As standard practice they call to confirm what is being done so during the phone call they actually recommended Tenacious Tape for rips as small as this (or anything else for that matter, as they explained its wonderful uses as I read in the other reviews), as the heat seal they applied may not be as effective due to it being so small. 2 years later the edge of the tear started to fray as the seal is from the inside of the jacket cell, so I went looking for some Tenacious Tape to cover the weld along with prevent it from reopening. The result was very satisfying, its nearly unnoticeable as the clear color blends well and is textured like the rip-stop nylon the lightweight downs are made of, its more on the matted side than shiny but its actually ok because the rip is near the lower part of a cell so it isn't noticeable.... highly recommended!

This tape saved my brand new Marmot jacket. Dont hesitate to purchase this product, I am a perfectionist, this tape is awesome. I slipped down the stairs in my brand new Marmot jacket a week after I purchased it. Somehow I managed to get two precision cuts on the elbow of the jacket. I had down feathers flying out of the hole every time i moved my arm. I was truly disappointed that I ruined my jacket after only a week of use, I swore to myself that I will never buy another jacket with such thin material. After doing research I purchased this product, the picture doesn't do it justice, the tape makes my jacket look and wear like it is brand new again. I am fully confident that it will stay on it for the life of my jacket. I purchased the clear, it is barely noticeable, easy to apply, and slightly stands out because of the glare. I will now use it on all my outdoor gear. I wish I knew about it sooner, I would have fixed my backpacking tent that has a small hole on the side from an amber landing on it. The best solution out there. Very happy!

Extended the life of my Travelpro

I’m a flight attendant so I put my bags through a lot of wear and tear. I hook a smaller tote bag to my rollaboard suitcase, which sometimes drags a little when I pull it. I eventually wore a hole through the inside bottom edge of the tote bag. It was still in good shape so rather than replace the bag, I decided to use this tape to fix it and prevent my contents from spilling out all over the concourse. I’m happy to say it did the trick! It was super easy to apply and blended well with the Travelpro fabric. My bag still drags, but so far the tape is holding up well and not fraying. I’m extremely picky about the looks of my bags, so I’m very excited I found this product that will save me from spending money on a replacement for a little while longer.

Amazing Product - Not all the same material

This is the most amazing product however, it should be noted that the feel of the different colors is not the same. I purchased Black - gray - Reflective and the patches. The reflective, gray and patches are all very much a nylon and rip-stop. You can see the threads running through them creating the squares. The black arrived and it feels more like a heavier weight nylon and is not the slippery feeling of rip-stop. Both products work amazing but it should noted that they are not all the same material.

Adheres extremely well

Bought this for our trampoline pad after doing a Google search of best tape to fix it with. Gear Aid Tenacious Tape was the most recommended, so I hopped on Amazon and found some. For my needs, it's a little spendy since I had a decent surface area to mend, basically all seams on the very front where the kids enter/exit the tramp, which wore out quickly due to the heavy traffic it gets. Although you get a good amount if you're mending a sleeping bag, down coat, etc, this wasn't price effective for me, but the great reviews persuaded me to give it a try. I just cut small sections and adhered on the seams, that way I'd use less tape for the area. It adhered extremely well and stayed put when I gave it a little tug after I spread the tape over the areas. I really should've cleaned off the mat prior to adhesion, I didn't, and I was still really impressed with how well it stuck. It's a nice, strong nylon, which will inherently give/flex a little when pressure is applied, but the adhesion itself stayed put. It spread over the mat really well and I had no issues with it not sticking on the edges. Although the initial use of this tape has me sold, I'll edit my review after some time if it does/doesn't hold up in the elements and and the foot traffic it sees throughout the summer with my kids and all the neighborhood kids. As it stands now, I definitely recommend.

Perfect for repairing my favorite down jacket

Bought this to repair my Big Agnes down jacket with a nylon shell. This repair tape is matte black, so it doesn't match perfectly with my slightly shiny jacket (also black), but once on it's hardly noticeable. The tape was VERY easy to use. Cut a rounded patch to go over your tear, gently clean the affected area with alcohol, peal, and stick. Directions say that the hold will increase as time wears on. I completed my repair (about a 1/2 inch hole) in roughly 2 minutes. I was so glad I was able to repair my favorite winter jacket. Thank you Gear Aid! Edit 12/20/16: It's been one year since I fixed up my jacket and wrote my review. In the last twelve months, the jacket has been worn through two winter seasons, thrown in the wash several times, dried (with no heat) and still continues to hold up extremely well. I might detect the SLIGHTEST of color fading since last year, but I play hard in this jacket and I am not complaining about that minor quibble given the extended life this repair tape has given my jacket!
