This is probably the easiest and best thing I've installed on the bike yet. I have a 2018 Honda Rebel 500. The install was super easy with the exception of trying to find out how to hide the wiring. It took less effort than I thought to program it. It learned each gear before I even left our neighborhood development. It is a tad bright and it'd probably be obnoxious at night but I don't ride at night so it's not a concern. I know when I first looked this up I looked everywhere for instructions before I bought it. I didn't find any. So...I am leaving some behind. This product should work with the 2017 and 2018 Honda Rebels. They're both the same bike just issued in different colors. This product plugs into the data port. That's a red plug right underneath of your seat. It has a cover. Be careful not to break it when taking it off. Then all you have to do is wire it along making sure you don't clamp off anything you shouldn't with the zip ties included (I just used my own longer ones). Then you program it by driving it on a stretch of road. That's literally it. Quickest and easiest install ever and it's so handy to have. I'm not only a new rider but also new to manual transmission vehicles. I easily forget what gear I'm in when riding. For me this is great.

The kit has multiple tie downs, two double sided adhesive blocks and the cable with the red seven segment led display at one end and the male version of the diagnostic connector at the other. Following the instructions it took about 20min to set the whole thing up and install it. Most of the time is taken by figuring out where to put the display, sticking it in place, and then routing the cable to the connector under the seat. I chose next to the existing display - it looks cool! (See photo- I used both sticky pads) Routing the wire is simply a case of avoiding any pinch spots and hot spots! (That’s what she said) Then connecting the cable up to the diagnostic connector under the seat, start up the motorcycle in neutral and the unit counts up. You select first gear and wait for the unit to rapidly flash, and when it shows the next gear, you select it - all the way to 6th gear The instructions included are in a few languages and are pretty comprehensive- the one thing missing is that it takes about 15-20 seconds for the unit to recognize each gear, and display it, which isn’t a big deal but I thought it was worth mentioning. (I thought it would be a couple of seconds) Also if you can’t elevate the back wheel safely you should do this on a road with no cars It looks really good, and works perfectly!!!

Extremely easy to install on a Honda CB650F. Plug and play. Hardest part was deciding where to glue it to. I have no stand so I had to do the learning on the street so I took a 5 block stretch near my house and went thought the gears at minimum speed possible. Got to set all of the 6 gears in under those 5 blocks so this was also an easy task to complete. The kit comes with a branded face-plate that is easy to exchange with the initial one. so another good thing. As many others have pointed out, you can only see the gear you are on when you fully release the clutch, which is normal giving that we are using the diagnostic port to read the ECU data. One funny thing about it on the CB650F is that when downshifting while keeping the clutch in it will shortly show the upper gear of the gear combination (e.i. from 2nd to 1st will show '3' then go '-', from 5th to 4th it will shortly show '6' then go '-')

Install was VERY easy - truly plug and play (to connector under seat). Programming was easy but suggest putting bike on a stand as you have to shift through the gears to program it (a little safer than doing it while riding). Works great!. I know a lot of folks will say they don't need it because they can "hear" the gear by listening to the engine vs. the speed, but sometimes it's nice to be able to just glance down and see what gear you're in. It adhered nicely to my speedometer with the double-sided tape provided (pre-cut for side and back mounts). Note - when you're in neutral or have the clutch engaged, you'll just see a line. I took the picture as I turned the bike on to capture a gear being displayed (it "counts down" when the bike is first turned on).

I have a 2015 Honda CB500F. I've only had this gear indicator for a little over a month, but it works as advertised and looks great. It was easy to install too. I'm just starting to wrench on my bike more, doing more work myself, and this was one of the first things I've installed. It took about 15 minutes from start to finish. It was literally plug and play. I watched a couple of videos on youtube on how to install and installed it a few minutes later. It was also easy to program. Some videos say that programming while the bike is on a stand is easiest. I don't have a bike stand, so I was riding it when I programmed it, but I have to disagree. Programming the indicator while riding the bike could not have been easier! The instructions weren't the best, but I figured it out. The programming maybe took a minute, and in less than a mile it was done. I researched a lot of different gear indicators before buying this one. There are several out there that cost more ($100+), but the reviews for this one were pretty good so I decided to take a chance and it's been great. Unless this starts to short out or something, I don't know why anyone would need to spend $100+ on another gear indicator. I ordered the green and it looks great. I don't know if other indicators will show which gear you're in when the clutch is pulled in, but this one doesn't. I wish it did, but I'm getting used to it. The product came a day later than expected delivery date, but I wasn't really in a hurry, so it still worked out. I'll try to take a better picture and upload later.

Finally had some time to install this device over the weekend. Instructions that came with it were fairly easy to understand and install. At first I couldn't find the connection it needed to go to on my 2015 Honda cbr500r but with patience and a little research was able to find it. Ran the cord along the left fairing only used one zip tie plugged it in and followed the directions to synchronize the gears. The most difficult thing was deciding where to mount the display but found the perfect spot on the left panel. Fairly simple setup and am happy to know which gear I am at all times. The clutch does need to be fully engaged in order to get a reading.

Super easy to install on my CB500F. Aside from the crappy adhesive that comes with it, this is definitely one of the most legendary $40 I've ever spent. As a three going on for your rider a memorized my gears but for those 2% times where I forget what gear I'm in This mod absolutely saves my tail. Before getting an indicator I always shift into first thinking I'm going from third to 2nd But never again with this right here. Installation of super simple the adhesion is terrible but it went to Walmart and got some double-sided locking tabs from 3M and some electrical tape to secure the wires and it's absolutely magnificent. Double-sided velcro is very nice because you can always take this off if when you please. The normal adhesive they gave me even with tape flew off on the highway and it was behind a windscreen so that should tell you how weak the adhesion is But don't let that stop you from buying this because 3M tape is super cheap. Best way to program this is using a rear stand.

Works great on my CBR500R. Only downside is that you cannot see the gear position unless the clutch is out. So if you pull the clutch in at 6th gear and start downshifting, the indicator will not show you the gear you are at until you let go of the clutch. Not a big deal since the 500 doesn't have a physical gear position indicator.

Great product and even better customer service. I’ve been using the gear indicator for five months now on my 2015 Honda CB500X and it has been working flawlessly. The installation is straight forward and the installation instructions are simple and straightforward. Through no fault of the gear indicator (meaning user error) I accidentally knocked the cover off the gear indicator while on the road, I was miles down the road when I realized it, but wasn’t worried because it comes with two of them. I was unable to locate the spare cover when I got home so I contacted the seller and they are sending me another cover. I’m very impressed by their level of customer service.

This product took very little time to install and set up. After de-paneling the motorcycle the route to follow was very obvious. I removed the bolts to the tank and (airbox?)so I could lift them up to get the wire behind them. The only hard part for me was to figure out how to set up the indicator without a stand or riding it. I went the most unsafe way and propped it up on blocks at the spring. Do not do this unless you are very confident in your strength and agility. Anyway, I followed the instructions and it was programmed. I had to disconnect it to finish the route but the program held. I took it for a ride, ran the gears up and down and it followed flawlessly. This is not a long term review.
