perfect for sharpening and tuning up your home knives
works great. note that my knives were not rusted and just needed a tune up, but cuts through anything like new. the bamboo base does slip after you start dipping your stones in water during the sharpening process. i just used some paper towels to line the bottom (surprisingly, it worked), and also around the counter so that the water doesn't drip on the floor.

great stones, great price
My first set of sharpening stones so I have nothing to compare them to. For $50, though, great price to get into the world of sharpening. Stones are great and easy to use. Was able to put hair shaving edges on knives. Took a couple of knives to feel comfortable and better with the process and how to sharpen, but the stones you get work great. Here's the secret though. Get the green leather stoping block as well. As great as the stone are, I have found that stroping the knife after the fact is what really brings out that razor edge. And after using the knife, stroping it again, will restore and keep it razor sharp. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

Great product and great customer service!
I am just starting out sharpening with whet stones. I have found these stones to be very nice and the instructional videos that come along with the set on knifeplanet are extremely helpful to anyone starting out. The cost of the set was very reasonable and seems to be a great value. The customer service is amazing, I lost the site for the videos and sent an email to get the information and immediately there was a reply with all of the links that I needed. I appreciate their attention to their customers!!

Great Starter Set for Knife Sharpening
Great price for a quality set of water sharpening stones. For a set of 4 stones, I tend to doubt that one can find a better price. They also have a LOT of instructional videos and PDFs to guide you. This set for sure works to cleanup your knives. Learning how to properly sharpening knives takes time. These stones WILL do the job. The proper form is performing over and over and muscle memory. Start with a "crappy" knife, take your time.

A great sharpening set with the ideal variety of grits
I've always wanted to sharpen knives on water stones, and this set gave me the motivation to finally give it a shot. The price is amazing for the quality and content of the set. It comes with all the grits you need to sharpen anything... I usually start on the 400 grit if the knife is very dull, or directly on the 1000 grit if it's not too dull. The 3000 and 8000 grit stones are softer and ideal after the coarser stones. The online learning section is truly amazing, much better than I expected. A convenient place with instructional videos and many articles about knife sharpening. Only downside is that the knives are now so sharp I need to be very careful using them... but that's a good thing! I feel like I fell in love with knife sharpening again.

Best purchase I every made
Best purchase I every made. while my knife doesnt cut a fine layer of tomato without touching it, it became as good as it was when I purchased. I recommend users to learn how to properly sharpen the knife. It took me about 30 minutes to sharpen a single knife to what it is today. The knife gets really sharp. Also, with use, the surface gets uneven. I recommend you draw a grid in pencil and then file using the grinder stone until the grids disappear. This ensures the surface remains flat during all use.

Great quality, value & performance. Would recommend.
I searched & searched for the right set to start sharpening on. Now I'm about 50 knives in and I'm really happy with this set. There is no question whatsoever, the sharpness of your knives using these stones is going to come down to your level of skill. (Which will only improve with practice.) They do exactly what they should. Would definitely recommend.

Worth the $$$
I don’t have a lot to compare this to. What it has is what I wanted a coarse to an ultra fine. Four different grits if you will. I’ve had it a few weeks and sharpened some knives up real nice. This is my first set of Japanese stones so I am satisfied. They are not natural but synthetic, hence the good price.

The Sharpest!
Watch the excellent "How to sharpen your knife" videosfrom Knife Planet before you begin. Don't worry -practice makes perfect! I just love the stones! I soak them completely for about 5 minutes for best performance from the stones. Start with the coarse stones to prepare the edges, as you go from coarse to fine. Keep the stones safe, you do NOT want to chip them. Practice, practice, Practice!

Great for someone new to sharpening
I suspect an experienced sharpener would have good things to say about this set, but as someone brand new to the practice, these have been perfect. The online instructional videos were very helpful -- even so, I was a bit too tentative, so I then had a few e-exchanges with Robert. He was INCREDIBLY helpful (and very patient!) with his advice (and more advice as I wrote back with other questions). Bottom-line is that the knives I was working on ended up getting VERY sharp!! I can see that there's an art here, and it comes with practice. This set of stones sets me up to keep at it (I'm a little antsy in that all my knives are sharp now . . . I need to wait until a few start getting dull before using the stones again). I'd recommend them to anyone.
