who is pretty picky when it comes to these things
Bought these for my husband, who is pretty picky when it comes to these things. He originally asked for a bluetooth speaker, but when I saw these, they seemed to be way better. They aren't as portable as bluetooth speakers because they have to be plugged into a wall, but we only planned on using them at our house anyway, so that is fine. But literally everything else about them is 1000x better than a bluetooth speaker! For a picky guy when it comes to music quality and sound, I was hoping he would like it. He was blown away!! It's been a month and he's still talking about how he can't believe he has these. We have three around the house, all connect or disconnect whenever and however we want them to. So if he's hanging with his friends in one room and I'm watching tv in another, he can connect just two speakers so they have surround sound, and I don't have to listen to it. Having Alexa on there is pretty awesome too. And being able to say, "Alexa, turn the volume down" is just awesome rather than having to find the control. We control it with our phone, but it works over our wifi, so we can set the music how we want, but then take our phone anywhere and make calls, etc. It even keeps playing when we leave the house unless we tell it to stop. If there were 10 stars, it would get 10. I love how versatile it is, how we can move it around to different rooms or use only a few speakers at a time instead of all of them. I love how easy it is to use. I hate spending a lot of money for something that is just a pain in the butt. My husband loves that the sound quality is amazing and he can play his music really loudly. :)

Just buy it, and don't forget their TrueTuning — and think about stereo before deciding what product to buy!
Just killer good! Perfect for my bedroom! Bought one, wanted stereo so I bought another, and then... and then... I tried their TrueTuning technology and it's so amazing it dropped me dead! Killer! I've never heard a better stereo field! Note that with competing products, you can buy two but you get two mono speakers. Sonos One pairs up for full stereo! I got the Sonos 5.1 in my living room and pair of Sonos Ones in my bedroom and I ain't giving it back!

Imperfect, yet refined...
Sure, as of January 2018 this lacks Alexa-driven Audible support. There are reasons to remind one this product is imperfect. Imperfect, yes. Refined, though. Alexa never sounded so good with this speaker's bold sound. I own (12) Sonos speakers, including two Play:3's... actually, we appreciate the Sonos One to the Play:3. The official website claims Play:3 is richer, etc. Play:1 and Sonos One are our preferred speakers. Add the flexibility of One and now you don't have to run to your tablet or smart phone to switch music. It really makes a day at home that much more joyful, it's a "killer app" that's here to stay.

After a year, still love it
I happened to notice this was on sale, and considered picking another one up - I love it that much. With that being said, the low overall rating didn't match with my experience so I felt a little compelled to share my experience. In Dec 2017, we replaced our original Echo with the Sonos One. We are very glad that we did. The original echo was fine, but didn't sound very good playing music. The Sonos One does everything just as well as the Echo, but sounds just SO much better doing it. Honestly, it is a night and day difference. Here are my thoughts a year later (Dec 2018). - Setup was very easy, and I didn't have any issues. - Using it around the house has been fine. I have used it in the front and back yards, garage, basement, and upstairs. It always comes online quickly, and connects fine. - Streaming is great. I saw some reviewers complaining about skips. I've been listening to it almost daily for a year and can't recall a single skip in that time. - Voice recognition is good. It might not be quite as strong as the Echo, but it's close. - Easy to play Google Music or Podcasts on it. - And worth mentioning again, it just sound better than anything else in this class. My recommendation: if you are getting an echo or small speaker for music, this is it because I have found it to be reliable and enjoyed the quality of the product and software. I will say, my struggle now is to find room for this, and our new Smart Display because we still prefer this for music, but like the recipe books and photo display on the Smart Display.

For me it’s the BEST Smart Speaker on the market!
I am a big Apple User so when it came to getting the right Smart Speaker I was tossedd between the Apple HomePod or this Sonos One. Well I made the right choice. The Sonos One integrates so much better with my listening needs. It is perfect with my Amazon Music Unlimited Account so much so I decided not to subscribe to Apple Music. For less many I’m getting all of the music choices I need. Yeah some say Apple Music has a larger library but I haven't yet not found the music I’m looking for with my Amazon account. The Sonos One also works perfectly with iTunes so I can sync and play my entire iTunes Library from my iMac right to the Sonos One. Then there is Alexa. I’ve had no problems using any of the Alexa commands as others have complained about but I’m not using The Sonos One as a substitute for my Echo Show or Spot. The other complaints about the lack of Airplay support people need to get over it... It’s on the way when Airplay 2 comes to the Sonos One this year, hopefully soon but this is on Apple not Sonos. So now on to the most important thing, the sound quality. The Sonos One is almost on par with the Apple HomePod. Yes the Apple HomePod does better in the Bass but it is also a bit inconsistant playing music from a variety of genres. The sound has been reported by many as “hit or miss”. This Sonos One has proven to me to be very consistant throughout all of the genres of music I play... this is provided you take the time to run the Sonos App and Tune it to your room (something you need to do again if you move the speak to a different location or to a different room). Also make sure to keep Trueplay Tuning turned on in the Sonos app. Bottom line, it’s a great Smart Speaker for a lot less then the Apple HomePod. In fact for only $49.00 more than one Homepod you can get 2 Sonos Ones’ and have the capability to create a stereo pair now and not have to wait for Apples release of Airplay 2. In fact that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

This is for music lovers
It's obvious that the negative reviews are for Sonos's Alexa voice failures. I'm coming fro the other side who's constantly annoyed by Alexa's voice responses which always fail for me. Most of our Alexa use is to listen to music and we had the first generation Echo. That was a frustrating exercise, as Alexa has a hard time playing songs from our library or to play exactly what we ask her to play. Until Alexa's voice commands are 100% correct, there should be no shame in helping her out with the app, which Amazon refuses to enable. Enter the new Sonos One. I find its voice recognition to be on par with the Echo devices, which is essentially useless for the random music choices we want to play. Thankfully, Sonos hasn't disabled its app in favor of total voice recognition. Now instead of yelling at Alexa for 5 minutes to play the exact playlist from our music library that happens to have a similar title to another playlist, I spend 5 seconds punching in the playlist to play. Good luck asking Alexa to play your favorite podcast from July 2015. Then there's the sound quality which is far better than the Echo. So in summary, if you need a good sounding connected speaker with basic voice functionality that performs stupid Alexa commands, then this is for you. If you need it to control your life, look elsewhere. For us it's a perfect unit.

Sonos can play local radio stations
I have a friend who owned 3 Sonos speakers, and I really enjoyed the sound profile at his home, so I bought one for myself. I won't reiterate what everyone else has said, but I want to point out a feature that I did not know existed! Inside the Sonos app on your phone, you can search Radio Stations. Many local stations have apps, that until now, we would stream to our bluetooth speaker. We thought we had lost the ability to listen to those after Sonos, after all they are not a streaming service per se. We were delighted to find every local station that has its own app, is in the Sonos directory! We can search it and with one tap, begin to listen to that station from one central location (instead of many separate apps). You can also add your favorites to your My Sonos listing. So between Spotify and Amazon and now Radio Stations, we are fully covered. Very happy!

I'm truly amazed!
I wish I could give these six stars, as five just don't do them justice! I'm not an audiophile who can put it all into scientific, techie terms, so here it is from me: WOW!!!! The sound coming from these bookshelf sized speakers just doesn't seem possible. I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. It just doesn't make sense. One of the first things I listened to was Rod Stewart singing the classics in The Best of the Great American Songbook. Incredibly beautiful! I swear, I closed my eyes and it seemed as if he could have very well been sitting in my room. Beyond the amazing sound quality, the Sonos app really brings the best out of these speakers. I bought two of the Sonos One's, and with the app, had them setup and paired as a stereo set within minutes. No muss, no fuss. Very simple. And the app has many functions to bring out the best in these speakers. I am a full-time RV'er, so I'm in a fairly small space, and these don't overpower my space, even at higher volumes. In fact, one of the app's functions is a setup where it 'listens' for 60 seconds, and then 'tunes' the speakers to your living space. I'll be honest, I was a little skeptical about the process, but after going through the setup, I definitely notice a sweetening of the sound quality! Bottom line...i am beyond pleased, and wouldn't think twice for even an instant at doing this purchase all over again! I will be adding a Sono Sub, and probably another speaker or two for the bedroom, and the patio in the not too distant future.

Things That Work For Old People
I am a 70 year old struggling to keep up with technology because, well it's important. Like many my ability to check out new tech with the systems administrator or a Millennial colleague came to an abrupt end along with my final paycheck. Since I think it's important that you know the perspective with which a review is written let me briefly tell you what this Sonos One was meant to replace. Our basic music needs were being met by a 10 year old Sony "shelf system"; a radio tuned only to the local classical music station with a CD player that no longer worked. We have access to Amazon music and recently bought a little Bluetooth speaker that worked very nicely. The downside here is that my wife has no notion of how to use the app to make Amazon music work. We have Sirius XM in the car, love the variety and often wished we could get that at home. Based on the specs and reviews it looked like Sonos One had the potential to be our new best music friend. Out of the box the set up was VERY easy. I dread the day when I buy a new piece of tech and have no clue how to make it work. That was not a problem for this guy. Download the app and follow the simple steps. The only exception here is in a tuning process that involves waving your iPhone while you walk around the room. It kept failing, telling me I was making too much noise. My wife actually has this same complaint and, as with my marriage the app eventually suggested we just move on. The Sonos app connected seamlessly with Amazon Music. We had discovered that Sirius XM now offered an app based streaming version of their service which also connected easily with a little switching back and forth between the apps. And the biggest bonus, our local classical music station is among the many radio stations that can be added. The sound is spectacular. Keep that perspective thing in mind. We are obviously not audiophiles but to our aging ears the Sonos is a huge upgrade over what we had and fills our room with deep, rich sound. The Alexa thing was our biggest surprise as both wife and I were skeptical and had put Alexa in the broad category of "things we will never have." Alexa's default play for us will be something from Amazon Music. The more specific your request the better. There's a bit of learning curve in finding what gets Alexa's motor running. For example, after a number of fails we looked at the app and noticed that our local classical music station was titled Classical Public Radio. That worked and now my wife can get her old friend playing at 6am without using any apps. In the interest of fairness I must say that Alexa does not seem to recognize Sirius XM and even told me it was not installed. Of course all of the music can be accessed without problem on the app. I have asked Alexa the time; asked her to set an alarm and to tell me a joke. I even told her I loved her. "That's sweet" was her response. I've read here that the Alexa function is not great on the Sonos, but again that depends on your needs and perspective. The Sonos One with Alexa gets the Double Senior Discount Seal of Approval from this household.

Much better than my Bose speaker set...
Just okay on the sound (I may not have the balance perfect yet, but I detect a bit of static-like chatter behind the music), but super-easy to set up. The Sonos app is excellent. I bought this speaker because my pair of Bose speakers, which I have in different rooms and purchased to play simultaneously (“party” mode), have been a nightmare to deal with. They are fine speakers, but the app that controls them is useless because it keeps forgetting one or the other speaker, so I have to add a speaker every time I want to listen to music. I currently have this single Sonos speaker playing Spotify, worldwide radio, and Audible. As soon as I can retrieve my password for Sirius (my car subscription) it will be playing that, too. I like being able to control it with my voice rather than getting on my Ipad (as with the Bose app). One shortcoming is that my usual volume command for my Echo device — “Alexa, increase/decrease volume” — causes the speaker to make too-drastic changes. I guess I need to figure out the volume levels and tell to to change volume to “level X.” Overall, I am happy with this and may buy a second speaker for the other room. Caveats: The speaker makes a tone to alert you when it’s awake and actively listening (it is always listening, but one hopes not always fully active). I have heard the tone ring at odd times, when nothing should have triggered it to wake up. My speaker may be spying on me! I asked Alexa whether “she” was spying, and “she” replied that information is sent back to Amazon only when I request it or authorize it, or something like that. But it’s really spooky when I’m discussing the likelihood of rain with my husband, in the supposed privacy of our living room, and Alexa beeps and pipes up with the local weather forecast. My Echo Spot does not do this.
