DO NOT LISTEN to ANY of these BAD REVIEWS! I took a chance even though the reviews were not great! I am extremely happy with this lock! It’s amazing! From its functionality, WiFi connection, the app associated with this item, and for the luxury of having an all inclusive front door setup with lock and doorbell camera definitely give this item five BIG stars. August gets a bad wrap I think because you really need good internet speeds and placements of each product needs to be pretty close to perfect suggested distance for their devices to work properly, but if you take the time to get it set up right, might need to make tweaks after initial setup, but the time is well spent! I honestly already had an August door lock and extender so i also bought the doorbell because I just didn’t want any more apps on my phone. I have never had one connection issue with my lock. It always unlocks for me when I’m pulling up to my house, has not once failed after having for almost a year! This was by far the best smart thing I purchased for my home, and it just goes to show you can’t always believe low rating reviews. I bought this and amazon was showing 2.5 star or 3, I can’t remember but that is wrong! Five star all the way!!!

I had been wanting a smart lock for a while now, but everything I looked at required way too much effort to get up and running. This lock was on sale and looked easy enough to install so I gave it a try. The lock is super easy to install, that as long as you follow the directions, you can't go wrong. Linking it to my phone was easy and quick. Setting up the sensor that tells you if your door is open for x amount of time is simple to install also. Everything about this lock was easy to do. I have it hooked up to Alex and Homekit and can ask Alexa or Siri to lock the door. I also like being able to give my buddies access to the house. Super convenient and allows me to lag if we're meeting at my place as I can just let them in. HA! The lock will tell you when you need new batteries. I immediately change them when it tells me running low. I haven't had any issues locking/unlocking the door. I have the proximity setting turned on so when I am x distance away it goes into away mode and will auto lock the door if you didn't do it on your way out. It will also open the door when you get near, a feature I love, especially when my hands are full. It's so easy, the wifey can use it, which is always a plus because if she can't play well with the tech, it must go. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and recommend this with 2 thumbs up!

I love this smart lock! I had a small issue setting it up with my home network using my smartphone so I contacted tech support and they answered very fast! Very professional and knowledgeable and quickly determined that I was logged on to the 5Ghz network on my dual band router instead of the 2.4Ghz band. Once I corrected this we were able to successfully finish the setup. The technician was very friendly and helpful and offered tips on how to use the mobile app and the lock. I like being able to unlock my door remotely and love the auto lock feature. I never have to worry about kids leaving the door unlocked. The lock looks great on the door and the hardware installation was super easy and fast. The only small thing I didn't like was that I decided to drill a hold in my door jamb to flush mount the sensor that alerts when the door is opened & closed and the recommended drill bit size seemed just a little too big. I followed the instructions and wrapped tape around the drill bit to guage the depth and did my best to drill the hole straight however the sensor fit a little loose in the hole. I was expecting it to be more snug. I corrected this by applying a little silcone around the sensor and pushing it in the hole. The lock has operated flawlessly and never had any problems. One thing that has probably contributed to it working so well is that my wifi router is only approximately 10-12 feet from my front door and the connect is plugged into an outlet about halfway between the router and door. The last thing I love is the integration with my Amazon Echo Dot and the Google assistant. It's awesome being able to tell Alexa or Google to lock or unlock my door! I can even ask if the door is locked without needing to pick up my phone.

Love love this lock. I have this lock for over a month now and no major issues yet. Every now and then, the auto unlock doesn't unlock right away. The issues that I had when I first set up the lock was the connect not having connection and the auto unlock not working most of the time. I tried putting the connect in my dining room so it will be the same distance from the router and the lock, but the connect wouldn't connect with the lock. The connect was about 8 ft away from the lock, it connected with the wireless router but it couldn't connect to the lock. I end up moving the connect to 2 ft from the lock and had it connect to my extend wireless. As for the auto unlock, I was having issue with the lock not unlocking. I walked 10 ft from my car to the door and the lock was still locked. I had to take my phone out to unlock the lock every time I come home from somewhere. But ever since I set my ipad as a hub, the auto unlock have been working 99% of the time. I have my lock to lock up right after the door closed, which is a bonus for those who have kids and a husband who doesn't care to lock doors. I used to lived in the big city with high crime so I was always taught to lock the door after entering in/exiting out the house. I now live in a small quiet town but my awareness still kicks in so door locking is must. With this auto lock is a relieve for me. Hopefully, August will have a better connect that will connect to the lock from more than 2 ft away. Just waiting for that fix so I can buy another lock for my front door.

I honestly purchased the August Smart Lock Pro + Connect 3rd Generation as a fun smart home gadget, that would make my life easier, but also to add a “coolness” factor to my home. Between smart doorbells, alarm system, sensors, etc. I thought it was time to add a smart lock to the list. After much research I went with the August due to the leading application and support (with fully customizable features...I’ve added some of my personal insight below), great design (I love the look), Connect from anywhere features (I can lock/unlock from anywhere in the world...as long as internet connection is available), the ability to send a temporary “virtual key” to visitors (like friends and family), and that I can still use the lock in a traditional fashion (from outside I can use my key in the even of low batteries, and inside I can simply turn the cylinder). The first decision I had to make was installation location. Due to the price, although I’d like to install on all exterior doors, I only purchased one, and chose to install on my garage door. This happens to be the door most frequently use, and the one my hands will often be the most full going through (between grocery trips, heading in/out the door before/after work with coffee, computer, etc., or for my wife with the kids, book bags, etc.). Installation was simple, and the lock was installed in less than an hour. The mobile instructions were extremely intuitive, and well thought out. They have a more simple option to place a sensor on the frame of the door, or for you to drill a small hole on the inside of the frame (making the sensor nearly invisible, especially when the door is closed). I chose the second option (picture attached) for a more clean look, and so nothing would get frustratingly caught on while running out the door. I used a dab of wood glue on the sensor to keep it in place. My only frustration was placing the Connect box. There is a plug in a laundry room very close to the front door (which we keep shut, which would have hidden the Connect box), but it wasn’t sending a strong enough signal. Luckily I have an outlet close to the front door, I just didn’t want to see the box (no big deal). After installation, I strongly suggest customizing the settings/features. For example, I don’t have my door auto-lock after entry or when I leave the near vacinity of my home. Personally, I don’t want it to lock when I’m driving down the street, and have my wife locked out in the garage without her purse, keys, and phone (sometimes she goes out to put the kids in the car before going back in to get her purse). I LOVE the setting of auto unlocking when I get in close proximity. It’s great because I can have my hands full and don’t need to get my keys out of my pocket. I’ve also enjoyed the “virtual key” function, and use it when parents or family visit (especially if arriving late at night). The virtual key would be great for people with visitors, dog walkers, etc. Thrse features will gain even more importance as my kids grow and can do more on their own. In conclusion...So far, my experience has been outstanding. Honestly, for me this is a nice-to-have but not a must-have for most. I bought it for the fun and love the features, but could definitely get by without it. I love keeping my keys in my pocket, and being able to check if my door is locked from anywhere in the world. In the future if the cost comes down I’ll have them on all my doors. I rate this a 5/5 and would definitely purchase again. Thank you for reading and rating my review!

I spent a lot of time researching smart door locks but I kept coming back to the August lock. But, there was a problem. August was only supporting Z-Wave in it's Pro lock with Connect and that was only sold through dealers. Not long ago they started offering this combination to the public so I jumped at it based mostly on the professional reviews. I was looking for some specific lock requirements. It had to be z-wave compatible so I could use it with my SmartThings hub. It had to have Amazon Alexa support. It had to allow me to control the lock when I wasn't home. I had to be able to give someone a temporary "key". It had to automatically lock and unlock the door. Oh, and it had to be somewhat attractive. Not too much to ask is it? Installation: The physical installation of the lock couldn't have been easier. Their app walks you through the process and includes short videos of what to do. I had this lock hanging on my door in a matter of minutes. App: The August Home app is easy to use. All of the settings, etc are easy to find and edit. Very clean layout. I don't use the app to lock/unlock the August very often (see Usefulness below) but it's pretty easy - just touch the big circle in the middle of the app. Integration: I did run into some problems with integrating the August with my SmartThings and Alexa. I emailed August support about my problems and about 15 minutes later someone from August actually called me. Seriously. Who does that? In that 15 minute span I did some additional research and found two articles on August's website that addressed my issues. Note, the issues weren't a product problem but an education problem. The support guy who called walked me through the z-wave and Alexa setup and provided some additional useful information. We got everything working and he stayed on the line until I checked it out. I did learn that August has two Alexa skills and the support rep suggested that I turn both of them on. There's one with a black logo and one with a red logo. The black logo skill allows you to simply say "Alexa, lock the front door (or whatever name you used)". The red logo skill allows you to unlock the door BUT you have to say, "Alexa, ask August to unlock the front door". When you unlock the door with Alexa you'll be asked for a PIN (which you gave it when you turned the skill on) before it'll perform the funtion. Usefulness: Because I'm basically lazy I used to lock the door on my way out using that flimsy little switch on the doorknob even though I know it would take a burglar no time at all to get through that door. I was just too lazy to pull out my key and latch the deadbolt. But now! I turned on the auto-lock feature and told the August to lock the door if it's been unlocked for more than five minutes (this is a sliding scale that you can set for your own needs). So now, when I leave the house it locks after me. I also set it to automatically unlock when I came home. I was very skeptical about this feature working but it's flawless. When I pull up to the house my phone dings as I step out of my car. The ding is telling me that the August just unlocked the door. Brilliant. Wife Test: My wife has been kind and accepting of my quest to make our house smart. She thinks having smart thermometers, switches, and lights is cool but not exactly breathtaking. But I actually got a, "wow, that's cool" reaction from her on this lock after I installed the app on her phone and set her up. Next up - the August Doorbell Cam (budget permitting).

“Expert” Installation: I had this installed this on a new home in order to have remote access and link up with my Alexa. I’ll update my review as I use it more, but the set-up was excellent. I received a free professional installation with a promo and the technician arrived right on time and was patient with my watchful eye and questions. I’m glad I was watching because he left without it properly turning the deadbolt (the green/yellow/blue deadbolt connector didn’t fit properly and wasn’t engaging the lock). In his defense my Internet was not yet set-up and he assumed I didn’t need him to test it. But I was able to reconnect it myself easily enough. Using August Connect: the set-up within the August app really didn’t want to connect to my newly set-up FiOS 5G and was proving exceptionally stubborn at selecting every network except mine. I called technical support and Benjamin was fantastic. He explained that the August Connect prefers a 2.4G network to a 5G network and I was able to set it up easily from then on. Please note that you have to purchase a connect if you intend to use this remotely, with Wi-Fi as a post to Bluetooth when you walk up to the door. I don’t see why anyone would purchase an August lock without Connect unless they were purchasing a second unit. It’s extremely satisfying to have the deadbolt snap into place when you push a button on your phone. I think this will be excellent for my home. One note, the unit is much larger than I thought it would be. Almost as big as my fist when I expected it to be more sized more like an Alexa Dot. But that’s OK.

I waited nearly 2 months after installing and using this lock. I installed the lock and connect--which on a old door wasn't easy-- not because the lock was difficult to install but because my door didn't have a lock space for this type of lock. My deadbolt is on the outside of the door so we installed it only to realize that there was nothing for it to lock to... so I had to remove an old "police lock"-- common in old buildings in NYC and have my super drill an internal hole and install a deadbolt that had an interior deadbolt. Once that task was completed, the rest was easy. I have Airbnb guests, pet caretakers and my super who need to enter my home when I am not here and this Smartlock has been such a great convenience. I can assign a code to each person, monitor when they come and go and deactivate the code any time. It is so easy and convenient when I was the dogs-- I guess I should mention that I also purchased the keypad. My life has become so much easier with not having to worry about who has the spare keys and getting them back to give to the next, etc. I love this lock--easy, convenient and life changing. I am thinking about getting the door cam as well but the reviews aren't so great so I may wait for the next generation cam to be released. Ultimately, this is a great purchase and I am so happy with it. I am not sure what happens when the batteries die but there is always the key for backup if and when that happens.

I held off on installing this because I was a bit intimidated after opening the box.... but once you get into the instal it it’s very straight forward and easy. I had a problem with it not locking if my door didn’t “click” close but we tightened up the door hinges a bit and it fixed it. (This was a door problem and not an August problem). Besides the features i expected to get with this... I now get a notification every time my son gets home from school and unlocks the door with his phone. I love this as it gives me some peace of mind that he’s okay when I’m at work. I’m glad we have it and regret not getting one even back when we were renting. I have it set to automatically lock after I leave and unlock when I get home. August has truely taken something that was a chore for me (fumbling around for my keys when my hands were already full) and used technology to make it effortless.

Like most smart home products, there are pros and cons. This is a great product. It works as advertised and the app is actually pretty good. Since we got this, there's been no need to carry keys at all and it's awesome. Shut the door when I leave home and it locks after the pre-programmed time. For the most part, the Geo fencing feature works and when I enter the home radius, it unlocks. Sometimes it won't unlock and then I've to fish my phone out of my pocket, open the app, unlock it which I admit is a little annoying and one could argue that's the same as a key. But that does not happen often enough to annoy me. The Alexa and google home and google assistant integration work pretty well. To lock simply say your command and it works every time. For unlocking, it is more involved and one has to give a pin. But without that security anyone could open the door. It would be awesome if the AI were smart enough to recognize my voice and not anyone's. We got the wifi bridge which lets us check the lock status from anywhere. Assembly was also easy and it simply the best smart Lock to use with your existing latch. From the outside it looks like it looked before.
