It makes no sense to me why anyone would buy one of these things without a replaceable battery. This one does have a replaceable battery and it seems to be holding up well. It isn't anything fancy, but it does what it claims and the price is right.

It's a simple device and it works. It would be nice if it had an on/off switch, but besides that it does what it should. I used it to tune the RPM on my snowblower after changing the carb.

This is an inexpensive but very functional option for both maintenance and troubleshooting of small engines. I used it to troubleshoot an issue on a single-cylinder 4-stroke engine and it worked great. It's now mounted on my riding mower to record the machine's hours of operation. The meter has four modes of spark detection so you have to set that up correctly in order to get an accurate RPM reading. Other than that it's very simple to use. I am considering buying another one to put in my tool box when I troubleshoot other small engines.

I installed this hour meter on a DR Chipper with Briggs and Stratton Engine. Although the unit has electric start there is no 12V switched power supply for a 12 V meter so one with it's own power was needed and I wanted one in which I could replace the battery. The install was easy using 8-32 screws through the ears on the meter to a shop made bracket attached to the chipper housing.. The inductive wire was quite long so it was cut to the necessary length after routing it through an area where it will not be damaged. Set up was easy using the included instructions. You have a few options, RPM, Total Hours or set hours for maintenance. The final product was a compact meter that will allow me to keep track of hours for service. Time will tell how long the battery lasts and whether vibration affects the meter negatively.

I installed this on my Champion Generator with a four-stroke engine. I picked this hour meter because this one has a replaceable battery. The tach and maintenance interval were just extra features. The install was very easy. Mount it and run the wire to the spark plug. The hour meter just worked out of the box, which is really all I wanted. I set the tach to 03 (plug fires ever other revolution, according to the manual) but it was showing that my generator was idling at 6000 rpm, which I couldn't believe. Before I decided to turn the tach off altogether, I set it to 01 and now it shows idle at 1500, which is much more reasonable.

Easy to program and and set up. should last a very long time. I got it primarily for the tach feature. Seems to be accurate on my generator.. Sor the price if it should ever break I would not hesitate to buy again.

I use hour meters on my yard equipment to monitor usage for maintenance purposes. The two previous ones I used were completely sealed. They worked well for a couple of years until the batteries died. I haven't installed this hour meter yet, but expect that will perform just as well as my previous ones and when the time comes I'll only need to replace the battery, not the whole unit. That's a big plus for me. The only "negative" might be the size compared to the sealed units. This meter is a little larger (2 13/16" wide, 1 3/4" tall, and 3/4" thick (height off of the mounting surface) , but I don't think this will be an issue on most equipment. Overall I'm happy with this purchase and expect I'll be buying more for my other equipment.

I purchase this for my riding mower that did no come with an hour meter. I was pleasantly surprised on how easy the installation was. All you do is mount it, wrap the wire a few times around the sparkplug lead and presto you have an operational hour meter that is really accurate. It has a lot of features like the tachometer function, but I was just interested in the hour meter for now. Inexpensive, simple to install and accurate. What else is there...

I purchased this meter to adjust governor on a Honda HRX four stroke lawnmower. I set the meter per instructions to 03 (fires every other revolution) what I thought a four stroke should be set at. It read twice the actual rpm (using another tachometer for comparison). I thought the meter was not “remembering “ the 03 input and was defaulting back to original setting. Linda from Timorn contacted me and worked with me on the problem; turns out 02 is the setting that this tachometer should be set at for a four stroke engine. It now is working great. This is a very good tachometer and hour meter at a very reasonable price with Timorn giving excellent customer service! Just remember if 03 setting doesn’t work for your four stroke engine, set it for 02.

The hour meter on my standby generator broke and was too expensive for me to think about replacing it. I found this moderately priced hour meter and bought it. It was easy to install with two sheet metal screws (Not included) and then running the wire to the spark plug wire. I put 5 wraps around the spark plug wire about 4" back from the boot and used a small tie wrap (Not included) to secure the end of the wire back to the main section of wire. You can trim the wire to any length needed and not affect the meter's accuracy. This meter has a replaceable battery and it is recommended that it be replaced every two to three years. It is a 2032 button battery. Because the battery hatch is on the back of the unit, I would not recommend using glue or double stick tape to install the meter. My motor is a two cylinder four stroke and I set the meter on program #2 and it reads the RPM correctly at 3,600. The maintenance countdown timer is a nice feature too.
