This Saved My Bacon!
My motherboard crashed & burned spectacularly in the middle of a critical project. I had all the files containing a soon-to-be-professionally-published county-wide history book for our county's bicentennial. My backups, upon desperately checking, were damaged. It was CRITICAL that my files be recovered from this dead computer. I will be up front. A well-known company in a nearby town wanted a minimum $100 just to look at it to see if they could recover any files. I had just bought a new desktop unit and blew my funds on that. With no extra cash I borrowed some bucks from a friend and ordered this product without much faith that it would do the job. Mentally I was preparing to have to rescan and retype thousands of pages. BOY WAS I WRONG! This came two days later and in less than 10 minutes I had my old hard drive out of the computer case and hooked up to this VERY EASY TO USE setup. It took me over 45 minutes of digging through the thousands of files on the hard drive to locate MY FILES but once I finally found them? I was able to recover every single file that I needed plus all those that I had created for other purposes! All I had to do was be patient while I copied my files from the drive I took from the damaged computer. At this point I also took time to save those same files onto an external hard drive for safe-keeping and that ever important backup copy since my previous attempt at backing up was a dismal failure. I intended to resell this once I was done but it worked so fantastically for me that I changed my mind. Woman's prerogative and all, you know. Over the past few years several of my friends have had similar problems and were not able to recover their files because they, too, did not have the money to pay someone for file recovery from a motherboard crash. Since I bought and successfully used this I have loaned it to a friend who suffered the same thing I did. He was tickled pink with this converter because he, too, was in the middle of his own big project and it saved his behind as well. He was SO impressed with it that he told me he ordered his own so he won't have to wait to borrow this in case it happens to one of his other computers. This converter made a believer out of me! The drive I used it on was a 1T hard drive and is still in great health so I am going to turn it into a portable hard drive. Until I get the portable case for it I still have the converter hooked up to it and my new computer It is my backup drive now. This converter is the handiest and best accessory for my computer that I have ever bought and that says a lot because I really like my pen-mouse!

Easy to use and works very well.
The product arrived quickly. It was very easy to connect and worked flawlessly. I had a 44 pin IDE hard drive from an old WIN98 machine, that had crashed and I suspected that it had some sort of malware, but the system wouldn't boot, even in safe mode, so I couldn't check it. Until now. After unboxing the Sabrent converter, it took about 30 seconds to hook up the power leads and the data lead to my new computer. I then switched it on and scanned it like a portable hdd with the AntiVirus software on my modern system. It found and eliminated two viruses that were lurking in the Kernels. It found other malware elsewhere, but these were the ones that were keeping the machine from running. Afterward, to be safe, I formatted the hdd using the cable and re-installed it in the old machine and re-installed WIN98 on it and it is working well. It's actually a very quick OS. I don't like the OS, but at least it works the way it is supposed to. It was fun and good practice. I can now either keep it or just sell it off to someone looking to make a retro gaming machine. The device did everything I needed it to. It also has a SATA connection and a 40 pin IDE plug as well. A great product to have for future use. I do recommend this product to anyone looking to do the same. One thing to note; you must be careful not to mess with it once it's plugged in and running, it is not a super snug fit like a caddie or docking bay would be, but as long as it's in an undisturbed area, it's not an issue.

This is a life saver!
When my home computer crashed suddenly, I went in to a panic. It was an all in one with all of my kids photos and memories stored and showed no signs of problems until it just wouldn't turn on one day. After some searching on how to remove the hard drive and an article that recommended the Sabrent as the best hard drive reader, I ordered it. It's nice that it has a power plug to boot up the hard drive and a simple on/off switch that allows you to boot up the hard drive. After a few steps to unlock the hard drive, I was back and could got all of my files! Easy to use as well - just plug in to power, plug in to the hard drive, then plug the USB into another computer. Plug everything in first before you boot it up. As long as you hard drive is still powering up, you can lose a computer but not your memories!

Laptop "Life Preserver"
The Sabrent converter can well be your answer to recovering information from both Laptops and PC's. While it won't make repairs on your equipment, it "CAN" be your best friend at recovering old files and or photos. Follow the instructions carefully - move slowly confirming each simple step. In a short time what was thought lost on old hard drives in failed computers will be awaiting your review on whatever storage media you've provided. The converter has it's own power system for the drives, and also supplies a USB 3.0 for high speed transfer of data. Don't expect "Blazing" speed - but It works and can save you HUGE money for recovery fees or charges.

Works! Super Easy Plug-and-Play.
I purchased the Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter to access a couple of old SATA hard drives. The connector does seem kind of flimsy, but it works. It was literally Plug-and-Play with both hard drives. Both of the old hard drives have MS Windows 7 on them, and I plugged them into my new Windows 10 PC. Windows 10 immediately "saw" the old hard drives, and even though they were password protected, it just takes a little while to wait while Windows 10's Explorer works it's magic to "unlock" the hard drives. Easy peasy. I read the reviews that this adapter sent electrcity into some people's PC's USB ports, but it hasn't done that to mine, and I even left it plugged in and running overnight. It just flat-out works for me, so I recommend.

Yes it can do dual HDDs IDE & SATA/SSD at the same time!
I was looking for a product that I could use to image my old HDDs to SSD just to backup the data. The product specs did not state it could but be done but after some testing I was able to hook up an IDE HDD and SSD HDD at the same time and image the IDE disk to the SSD disk using Macrium Reflect & used Imgbrn to create an ISO image of the IDE HDD. I did end up buying an IDE extension cable because the Molex connector was too close to plug in both the HDD and power at the same time for some of my drives. see pictures. great product, has been very handy in retrieving data from various HDDs. Its USB 3.0 so it's pretty fast on a compatible PC. Would buy again. one happy customer.

Disagree with negative reviews
Past problems with the power wire connector may scare buyers away, but that has been fixed in the version I received. The main idea that I want to state is that the actual product works GREAT!! Especially, this USB 3.0 version!!! Even if I had to fix the power wire connector, the working unit is just so great, I would have NO regrets!!! I had a friend with 5 old computers, from a Sony Vaio w Windows 95 to the 'latest' with Windows Visa. He wanted only his personal files off each. Some had blown power supplies. I was going to try to get them all up a running. Google helped me find this product, and what a life saver!!! AND Time Saver!! and Aggravation saver!!! WOW! I can't say enough! I pulled all of the hard drives, down loaded the desired files to USB drives, gave him the drives and the USBs with the saved files and recycled the rest of the computers (less hard drivers). Try it! You'll like it!

Useful
It seems well made to me. It just works. Connect to PC, connect the power, attach your hard drive, and turn it on. Explorer on Win7 shows your drive. Easy. From reading some of the other reviews I wonder if we are reviewing the same thing. The hardest part was finding the blue USB3 port on the back of my PC. This isn't something I will use often but as I find various drives from previous PCs I have stashed in "safe places" around the house, I can see what is there before making wind chimes with the platters. All of my current PCs are SATA and I have a few old IDE drives without a way to connect until now. I like it and I think it is a good value.

Worked perfect - must have before recycling old PCs
We had a number of old PCs we knew had personal data and "just maybe something important". So they stacked in storage - and they wouldn't boot, or no password. This, my co-IT'ers, is the solution! In true professional tradition, I popped the drive out of an old Toshiba 6100 Win XP Pro (Toshiba HDD2171 40GB) that I knew had been mine so I sorta cared. Plugged the drive in the slot labeled 2.5" IDE HDD and plugged the USB into this, my soon to be scrapped, Toshiba Portege R835- P81 Win 7 USB slot without using any of the included jumpers and fired that ... thing up. My pc is getting a bit flaky and I did get some error message about the driver. Rebooted, plugged into a different port and BAM! I had a drive G: I ran a virus scan, opened a few files. As George Carlin said: "I was more than happy." Told the CEO we could safely remove the drives from all old PCs and recover all data. Got the OK to pull the drives and scrap the lot. I will salvage a power supply from a box pc - some older disks need too much power to run from USB. I will update my review after my next test with a new Lenovo Thinkbook Win 10. Then this pc can go into storage. What? Pull the drive and scrap it too? Are you insane? I hope this was helpful and gave you a smile.

Works perfectly, compact and convenient, a good buy!
Great little kit to for on the go data transfer, very compact and convenient. I used to have this terrible clump of wires that I'd lug around, this is a million times better. It read an ancient 2.5" with no hesitations, everything came right up, no drivers required - at least with Windows 10. Box has: SATA Connector 2.5" IDE Connector 3.5" IDE Connector Also includes a small power supply and adapter cable, which is only needed if you're running heavier hardware, a 3.5" desktop drive or perhaps an external CD drive. For the price you can't go wrong, and it's very handy having all the possible connections on one small device.
