A cute little crock that appears to be very well made. Two complaints (minor) about it - (1) the access hole in the top is almost too small for me to get my hand in, and (2) the ceramic weights I received are unglazed, therefore seem to be open to absorbing liquid while in use. May not be a problem if using for only one fermentation product, but might 'cross-contaminate' products.. There is also the question of sanitation. Could it lead to food poisoning? Makes a very small batch. If/when I purchase another crock, will go with the next size up - a 5 L.

Great product for fermenting foods, I have only done a two day ferment of kimchi but this worked flawlessly. The ceramic finish is easy to clean, the weights keep the food well submerged, and the water channel on the lid keeps any bad critters out. With the recipe I used I was easily able to fit two 4-5 lbs napa cabbages in the 5L vessel but three would have fit comfortably. I would say 15 lbs of cabbage is the sweet spot if you want max yield, possibly up to 20 lbs tightly packed. I really look forward to using this a lot and am already planning on making sauerkraut next. I had a minor issue with my order that was resolved very efficiently by Humble House. Their customer service is great and they stand behind their product. I highly recommend one of these vessels if you want to get into fermenting foods.

Real pleased with my purchase. Its seems to be well made with complete glazing inside and out so bacteria growth would be minimized. No noticeable seeping what so ever which I was concerned about. I have only made one batch and its been fermenting for two months. Opened the lid for the third time since beginning of the batch tonight and the kraut looks and taste fantastic. The 10 litter (2.6 gal)crock held 4 smaller heads of cabbage and a few carrots packed tight with a little room to spare. Bought another one just like it for a family member and she loves it.

SauerKrock 5L crock last week and made the recipe for Kimchi found on the Humble House website and it came out great. We did reduce the gochugaru and used cauliflower instead of daikon radish because daikon wasn’t available in our small town. We also didn’t have the shrimp so I increased the fish sauce a bit and added a couple of carrots sliced thin. We left it to ferment in our sauerkrock for 5 days and ended up with 3 pints of kimchi. I really liked the whole process and the kimchi is so good. It’s hard to find good kimchi where we live so this is really a blessing. Next we're going to try making the pickles. This is a great product that's fun and easy to use.

I tried making sauerkraut many times and it always failed in mason jars. I heard about these crocks and now own 2! It works so great. For the first time ever my sauerkraut turned out perfect! No mold or yeast issues. It was ready in 14 days the first time I made it then in 10 days the 2nd batch I made. I am super impressed! It keeps the light and air out which is super important when fermenting foods! Love it & highly recommend it to all! I live in Florida where it is hot and my house is 78 degrees, it still works amazing!

The Crock arrived without weighs, as another review described. I contacted the manufacturer, they emailed me back for some info nearly immediately, and the weights were shipped out within one day, so we did not miss any fermenting time. That was good customer service and we were satisfied with the response. The crock is well made, not overly heavy, but sturdy and consistently enameled. The appearance is traditional and blended in nicely with our kitchen. Our first time using the crock was to make a simple sauerkraut. A quick wash and then we ran Star San sanitizer through it (very useful stuff for brewing, fermenting, etc). This vessel easily held two heads of cabbage after shredding. In 3 weeks, we had crunchy, bright sauerkraut made just to our tastes. Very easy and convenient to use. The size is great for small families and those who want manageable batches and skip the canning. The price was right, and we'll be using this often to make batches of sauerkraut and pickles.

I like to garden and cook. But I've always been intimidated by the idea of fermenting foods. So when I decided to try it, I decided to research and purchase equipment specifically designed for the job. After reading many reviews and googling recipes, I chose this product. It arrived very securely packaged with all the advertised contents. I cleaned everything thoroughly and boiled the stone weights for good measure. I went about shredding, salting, pounding and squeezing the cabbage until there was enough moisture to cover the cabbage once inside the krock. On my first try I used red cabbage and added garlic. Probably too much garlic because I love garlic. I fermented for two weeks, the minimum of most recipes I perused. It was ok, but there was an aftertaste I didn't care for. So I tried it again without getting cute and left out the garlic and used plain ol' green cabbage. The product was great sauerkraut like Grandma used to make. My third batch is fermenting now with just a tad of garlic to experiment. I eat kraut two or three times a week and this 2 liter unit appears to make enough or me alone before I run out. I find the prep work to be laborious, but not so much to deter me from making this great probiotic side dish. So much cheaper than buying the unpasteurized varieties in specialty stores. This is a great product, and easy to use and maintain. It hasn't been empty since I opened the box and first put it to use.

First batch of sauerkraut in this new crock has been in for a few days. I absolutely love this piece! Mason jars get the job done, but have a number of drawbacks. My larger crocks (5L+) aren't good for testing small batches. This is the perfect crock to test out some new recipes but retain the benefits of traditional fermentation vessel. Plus, you hardly notice it on the counter. Even with its small size I was able to get about 4.5 pounds of shredded cabbage, peppers, and garlic in it. The finish of this crock is beyond what I expected for the price. The ceramic weights have good mass to hold down contents. I may have to order another. Thanks!

I like this pot it is sturdy and is a great size. I have made 2 batches of Kimchi in it... now, I have an Onggi so... I will reserve this vessel for pickling my vegetables in brine. I like the water seal around the edge of the top. (I made water kimchi in this vessel as well as traditional Napa cabbage Vegan spicy Kimchi. Yum.

I just jarred up my first batch of sauerkraut this crock worked great. 5 lbs. of salted cabbage only filed this up about one third. I got the 5 liter in white. You can see inside easily. The picture is what i got out of 5 lbs. of salted cabbage. Those are pint and a half jars. I will double recipe next time. I let it ferment 28 days. No more 8 dollars a lb. probiotic sauerkraut for me at Whole. you know where.
