This oil is amazing!!
This oil is amazing!!! See the dull, gray spatula in the middle? All of the beautiful grained spoons around it were also that dull for a long time, until this morning. I oiled the other items and left the one for comparison. As soon as I send this review, that one will get oiled up as well!!

Bring life back to old wood
I have a barrel in my house from one of my favorite wineries. Over the year that we've had it, it's dried out a lot. We didn't think about treating it with anything until I stumbled upon this mystery oil online. I ordered the oil and cream. I used a cotton cloth to apply it to the barrel, rubbing it in as I went along. Then, I followed it up with the cream. The barrel has never looked so good! It's now a deep, rich color and has expanded to its original shape. What's great is that these products don't have a scent, so I didn't have to worry about that being overpowering. I also used the oil and cream on my cutting board and it looks brand new as well!

Wooden cutting board maintenance essential.
I've been using the oil and cream for about 5 years now on two wooden cutting boards which are used every day. I just give them a quick wash, let them dry completely and hit them with the board cream. About once a year I give them a thorough scrub, let them dry completely and soak them with the oil and leave it sit overnight, then oil again. After all the oil is absorbed I apply a little of the cream and return the boards to use. All the sides should be maintained. Boos calls it "mystery" oil but it's probably just mineral oil - I have no way to know for sure - but this stuff works really good for me and I recommend it.

Wow!
I'm practically giddy over the results! I couldn't find a good food grade stain to use so I opted for this product instead and got the exact same color I was hoping to get with a stain. I put over ten coats of oil (although after the second coat the wood was already this color) but kept waiting for the wood to stop absorbing the oil, which never really happened, so after using over half of the bottle I just moved on to the applying the cream. I couldn't be happier with this product. I did also try it on my stainless steel appliances and it brightened those as well. I don't know what all the reviews about the cream being so hard to use are about. It squeezed right out of the bottle easily and required no "elbow grease" at all to apply. I am in a warmer climate, but it was still about 75 degrees in my house when I took on this project. Or maybe they changed the formula? I don't know. As far as how it holds up, I don't know...I was so excited with the results I jumped right online to leave a review.

Worth the price
When I first considered purchasing the Boos Block Essential Mystery Oil and Board Cream Care and Maintenance Set I was concerned that it seemed a little expensive, not excessively, but more than I paid for the mineral oil I had been using on my cutting boards. I decided to go ahead and buy it. Now, I'm not sure I'll ever use anything else. Using the mineral oil alone moisturized my Boos Block but every time I used it, I would have to rub more oil on it. The Boos Block Mystery oil moisturizes so much better and the Board Cream locks the moisture in. It doesn't take much of either and its easy to use. Since moisturizing by boards with these, I've cut on them several times, washed them, and they still aren't looking dry. This is what makes the set worth spending the money on. In the long run, this method truly is less expensive because it works so well.

Great value on very good product.
I use this oil on my cutting board and knife rack. It is odorless and easy to use. The 16 oz. bottle of oil has protected my expensive wood block cutting board for seven years. When it finally ran out, I found this duo of the oil and wax (cream) for the same price the oil alone with shipping would have cost. This product came with free S&H, and although the product description said "12 oz." of oil, it is the 16 oz. bottle I purchased seven years ago, so I know it will last that long. The instructions say to use the cream in conjunction with the oil & maybe that's a good idea for new chopping blocks, etc., but I see no need for it with a seasoned board. Instead, I will use the cream on knife handles, etc., which are not flat and therefore not so easy to apply oil. Very good product - very good value.

Perfect Preservation!
If you value your wood products in the kitchen as I do you will want to use these products. I have the good fortune to have a very large Boos gathering in my kitchen. The application of these two products (use the mystery oil first, let it soak in, then apply the wax and leave it overnight) has preserved my block to the point where it looks new. You might try other products, but in the end this is the one to go with.

Perfect Combo! So simple to keep a board like new.
This product has me totally hooked. It's a Zen moment in the morning after coffee with no distractions, just working the oil or the cream into the board with my bare hands. I love it. In today's throwaway society, it seems strange to invest a few minutes each morning on a board that you could probably just replace annually for less money than your cost of labor to maintain it. And that's how we've gone so wrong. Oil the board regularly, and occasionally seal it with the cream. Both things are important, but the oil is more important and needs more frequent application. The oil seeps in to the wood and protects it. The cream seals the oil onto the board. Each time I put the board in the sink and wipe it off, the hot water eats away at the cream and then the oil. I'm up to a tiny micro application once a week (a tiny bit of oil sealed in with a tiny bit of cream) followed by a major application once a month (douse it with oil, let dry two days, douse it with cream and let dry for two days.) Boards in storage also need attention about twice a year. Oil, wait a few days, then cream. Do both sides of the board, so four days total. Boos recommends just wiping off the excess the next day. I find that two days of letting the oil soak in tells me how dry the board was. After two days, if there's still excess I wipe it off before applying the cream. Then I let the cream set for two days as well. Usually there's not much excess to wipe off after two days.

Best Stuff for Butcher Block Countertops!
My entire kitchen island is a hand built butcher block counter top. This set keeps it look rich and not dried out. It's worth the extra work to use this right...I do a light rub with a nylon kitchen scrubber, then wipe it off. Next, use the oil (after you warmed it first-it really does make a difference) and let it soak in for an hour. I do that every 10-14 days. Then wipe off the extra. About once a month or so I follow that up by working the board cream in really well by hand and letting it sit overnight. Then wipe off the excess in the morning. It's like a brand new block! Wouldn't be without this stuff.

Purchased this with the Virginia Boys Walnut cutting board. ...
Purchased this with the Virginia Boys Walnut cutting board. Used 3 applications of oil since the board shipped completely dry, then let it sit for a night. Applied cream, let it sit for another night. Water now rolls off the board, and it has been conditioned into a dark brown walnut color. I'm confident this will protect the board from warping, which is what I bought this for. The aesthetic is just a bonus.
