Old 750GB Western Digital HDD of 10 years started to fail, so I bought this. 2TB at $50 is the perfect price and capacity to hold my games and other files (20GB of iTunes music files!). Just pair it with an M2 SSD to dedicate to your most important files and programs and you should be set for several years before needing any upgrades in storage.
Drive is indeed brand new and arrived well protected. You should have cables and screws at the ready since this listing does not include any but the drive itself. The hard disk arrives uninitialized. You have to boot up disk management (in windows) and it will prompt immediately to initialize the drive, which I did with MBR and NTFS. Pity there’s no manual, but lucky me I know the process. Coming from a 5400 drive, I can really feel the difference.
My only critique is that the drive did not come with any mounting screws whatsoever or any other hardware. Make sure you have your own screws and SATA cable. Other than that the drive performs excellent.

It is about as quiet as the quietest desktop hard drive I've had: not silent, but ignorable. The drive arrived uninitialized, but required no special software to partition and format it. July 10 2020 One year later: with almost continuous use, the drive has been trouble-free. Since installation, I have been aware of no sound at all from the drive.
An absolute killer deal. Say what you want about seagate, but they’ve come a long way from what they used to be, and i’d recommend this all day long to anyone.
