I recently purchased L2520DW printer and so far I'm impressed. when setting up the printer for wireless printing, I recommend you download the software online. In the software package there is a utility folder and use the "wireless device setup" folder to connect your printer to wireless network. I found out that, If I use the "wireless device setup" in the software package instead of the wireless wizard in the printer, then it will take care of deep sleep problem that many people complained about. Using "wireless device setup" I seamlessly paired my MacBook and Iphone with the printer and and now it wakes up automatically whenever I send a document to the printer. ( Initially, I directly setup the wireless wizard in the printer. But it causes printer to go to deep sleep and not wake up when I need it. In addition I had to input my wifi key almost every day. Therefore, I recommend you setting up the wireless printing through Wireless device setup )

This is a replacement for an almost identical Brother printer from two or so generations back that died after 5 years. Actually, the printer and scanner parts still work; what died was the USB interface. So the old printer can still be used as a stand alone copier. But what hurts most is that I have a $40 toner cartridge in the old printer and of course that doesn't work with the new printer. These things are like razors. They give the razor away and make their money on the blades (toner cartridges). The only problem is that the manual feed slot doesn't align the paper properly. Fortunately, the tray feeder has no trouble with 38 lb. paper and the duplex printing function works perfectly (as it did on the old printer).

I gambled buying this as my second Brother printer. The first still printed very well but had a paper jam problem. The paper did not actually jam. Instead, it appeared that a sensor malfunctioned that indicated the paper had not cleared the machine as fast as it should. So, I could only print one or 2 sheets before it would jam and then it had to be rested for a while before doing 1 or 2 more. The cost of repair was as much, or more, than a new printer. So, I bought this one, also without an automatic paper feeder, because this is a home machine with fairly light duty. After its arrival, un-boxing it was as expected and its setup was fairly easy. I did have to go through the wireless connection routine a couple of times before it connected but I've had much worse experiences with other devices. So, this was very acceptable. And like my previous Brother printer this one prints very nicely and quickly. I often use the scan feature which performs well and is a convenience. This model does not have a fax feature, but these days most people/organizations who ask for one will accept an email. For those who don't, I use a free online service. But that's a rarity. The real test of this Brother printer will be its longevity. At less than $100, considering its ease of use and very good quality of printing, thus 5 stars for now, it doesn't have to out live me! {Update} It's now a year later with a new third party toner cartridge and this printer is still very good at everything it does.

I just purchased this Brother Laser Printer and have to comment on the ease of setup as well as quality black and white printing. The printer connected to my WiFi without an issue. The scanner and copier work great! It seems to be well worth the $ spent!

I saw some people had problems with wifi and this printer. Wifi issues do not necessarily mean it's the printer's fault. My wifi is stable and I set the wifi type to DHCP, so that if for whatever reason it drops wifi that the printer will pick up an ip again. Others have stated that the printer goes into a deep sleep and they can't wake it. On the Brother web site it states that the printer will do just that if it loses wifi connection and can't reconnect. I've had no problems with sleep issues and I reiterate my wifi is stable and the signal strength is sufficient. In my opinion, for the price, you can't go wrong with this printer.

I have had this printer now for about a month and have printed maybe a dozen or so pages. I don’t have a great need for a high-volume printer, so after coming across this jewel, I made the move from $39 inkjet color printers. Color printers are fine every now and again, and my girlfriend still has one. But most of my printing is done in black, and again not that often. I am happy with the ease of setup, functionality and overall operation of this printer. It is not for an office environment nor high-volume printing. It’s a basic home-use monochrome wireless laser printer that does what it’s supposed to. The wireless printing can be done either via WiFi or Bluetooth. Scanning and copying functions from the front panel can take a little bit of getting accustomed to because you can choose several options on your output. When you do learn it, it is very sweet. The software bundle included is really bloated and non-functional for my use, but others may like it. It is rebranded Visioneer Paperport, now with the name Nuance. For the average user, the native printer software and the Windows software work together just fine. Bottom line, it’s a no frills, no fancy-schmancy printer that just plain works. Update: I've noticed complaints about the starter toner cartridge not lasting very long. That's why it's called a STARTER cartridge. Here I am 90 days later, and today had to print off a 500 page medical record. I went into my dashboard afterwards to see my toner is down maybe two-thirds. Not bad IMHO since that equates to about 750 pages for the starter. This printer has performed flawlessly for the time I've had it. Great investment.

This is my second Brother printer. This is an All In One, with the exception of no fax which I didn't need. This is very compact and fit in the same place where I had my old printer. I have only used it a short time but it is wireless and I have been able to use it with my cellphone and Ipad as well as my computer. I have not used the replacement ink as yet as I haven't run out of the original supply. It prints well and I find it great to find a printout from my Ipad which I was never able to do before.

So, for awhile now, I've been considering getting a laser printer since inkjet printers have not been kind to me, at least ink wise. I don't print stuff off very often, like once a month at most, so with an inkjet the ink would dry up or whatever by the time I used it again so even after like getting it to work or whatever, I would have to buy a new cartridge. Which, considering how expensive ink is these days, I could easily buy a cheap inkjet printer for $30 which is less than the cost of the ink for some brands and just buy a new printer every time the ink ran out. So, to avoid that, I decided to go with a laser printer. I rarely ever need to print in color. If I do need to print in color, I'll spend the few cents and go to Office Depot or a friend's house, but most of my printing needs are satisfied with black and white prints. (I play D&D so I mostly just need to print off character sheets and basic maps so black and white is all I need) and I knew I wanted to get a Brother it was just a matter of which one. I looked at a few different models and finally decided on this one since it had all the stuff I needed to do. Automatic 2 sided printing, scanning, copying, print from wifi or mobile device. I don't need fax but I definitely needed to at least scan stuff so this is definitely a good middle ground. It's a bit big so you'll have to make sure you have room for it. It's about a foot tall and about as deep as my dresser (which is where I keep it at the moment. I'll probably move it to the closet sooner or later) It prints FAST! I printed out almost 200 pages (double sided) in like half an hour give or take. It's definitely fast, and the quality is amazing! The text is crisp and pristine. Pictures aren't the same quality like on an inkjet printer. They look fine, but that's not what this is meant for. This is meant for office work like documents with maybe a few graphs here and there. It's quiet-ish. It's definitely quieter than some other printer's I've used, but it's not like whisper quiet. Unless everyone in the house is a light sleeper, I don't see why it would wake anyone up. Set up was fairly simple. It took awhile for me since my internet speeds are VERY slow (which doesn't impact the printing) so it took forever to download the software onto my laptop in order to print stuff, but if you have decently fast internet speeds the download shouldn't take too long. After it got downloaded it was only a few clicks away from being set up. But honestly, my friend bought the same one a few years earlier (I didn't know this when I bought it just a fun coincidence) she's still using the toner that came with the printer and she hasn't had to buy more toner once. So yeah, I don't have to worry about buying toner for AWHILE! But seriously, this was the best $100 I've spent. Definitely worth it.

Excellent printer. My Canon died and after much research on printers compatible with Apple Print and energy efficiency this was my choice. (I don't print photos or color so was finding myself wasting time on printers with lots of flash I never used with color ink cartridges I did not want but needed to buy to make the printer run). This is double-side print, the scanning to computer function works amazing, the Apple Print feature is flawless (I was using printopia before on my old printer and needed to run my computer for that. This just connects to the network and is always available). Print all the time off the iPad, iPhone, Macbook, and Mac Mini without issue. LOVE the fact that you get so much printing out of the ink cartridge. I'm still on the sample one it came with (unbelievably) and have done tons of printing. All double-sided, all draft. Print speed is super fast, even double-sided. Copying is simple (no massive screen to click through five million times like on my old canon). Really happy with its simplicity and functionality. Printing has become fun, because it's easy.

I got this in a few days ago to replace this printer I got 3 months ago, it was horrinle. Canon MX492 Wireless All-IN-One Small Printer with Mobile or Tablet Printing, Airprint and Google Cloud Print Compatible.. This brother is a black and white, no fax laser printer. Setup was simple, I don't use the manual to setup, its that easy. printing forms and checks have been outstanding. Its quiet, very fast and hold alot of paper in the tray. Don't let the word compact fool you, their idea of compact is different then canon's, but in a good way. It does not feel cheap, its actually a little heavy and twice the size of my cheap canon compact printer. Overall I would recommend for a good office type printer.
