Solid, well-built item, hefty, substantial in the hand. The Mrs. loved getting the earrings I bought separately in it. Oddly, got a sympathy card in the box; not sure how this would be good for that sort of occasion. And the LOTR 'Rings of Power" are children's rings at best. But these are free extras, so I'm not including them. It's a unique way to give someone a note or small trinket. And if your recipient is a steampunk fan, they will ADORE the Cryptex - but even if they're not, it's really cool AF.

This item was perfect for my proposal. The code is easily customizable making this item even more special. For the price, the item made for a lasting memory of one of the most special days off our lives. I would definitely recommend it.

Perfect for what it is

This cryptex is a solid feeling, quality appearing, customizable unit for a romantic puzzle gesture. While by no means would I hide a clue to the Holy Grail in it, as it's easy to circumvent the security (if you're even the slightest bit handy), it'll surprise and entertain your special person, and hold up for future uses. Two notes - first, I say "romantic" because the cutout inside the sleeve is shaped like a heart. A friend may be a bit confused. Second, unlocking can be unnecessarily tricky without spraying everything with some WD40 first. The wheels tend to spin each other as you turn them. The LOTR gag rings inside are a surprisingly decent quality and cool gesture, and the packaging is unparalleled these days. Heartily (pun intended) endorse others buying this.

Fantastic and fun!

This is surprisingly heavy and well-made! It comes in quite a nice box, too. It does not come with instructions on how to change the code, but those are available on the Amazon page (you have to remove a screw, which is why this comes with a tiny screwdriver, and slip off the rings). I used mine as part of a Vanderpump Rules-themed birthday scavenger hunt, and now it is displayed on my mantel, where many people have remarked on how cool it looks. I have no idea why this came with two versions of the One Ring from Lord of the Rings, but they are also surprisingly nice. The silver one is around a US size 5; the gold one is quite a bit larger. They're both inscribed inside and out with the proper LOTR text.

Completely blew me away. As you open it there they are "Lord of the Rings" inside. Great Card with Lavender sprig on it. Two Necklaces to hold the two Rings. Goes on and on. This is well worth it. and a great "none gag" item to pass down. Maybe even put something in it as a mystery .

Exactly as described

Bought this as a clue in a scavenger hunt and hid the key inside. I have yet to try to change the password but with the preset password, it works like a charm. I wouldn’t protect world treasures with this bad boy, but it’ll get the job done if you’re just scavengering. My one complaint would be it that I wish it came with directions as it took me a minute to realize the directions are only on the amazon information for the product. Overall, worth the money paid!

Excellent! Very heavy and works perfect!

I wanted to give my girlfriend something special for her birthday and thought I'd have a little fun by using this. I placed the order and within 5 days it arrived (I don't have Amazon Prime). Inside the Amazon packaging box was a small brown bag with cloth/string handles on either side. Insured the bag was an antique golden box. On pulling this out of the bag I noticed the box was extremely heavy. The box is made of cardboard but very solid. One side is closed with the use of a magnetic strip which is very nice. On opening you see a styrofoam cover which again looks antique, a dark brown color. Removing this you will then see a card with a ships anchor attached to it and a spiritual verse written on the card. Nice touch! On removing this you then see the Cryptex. It looks just like the picture. Taking it out, you notice the weight. It's very heaving! I turned the dial to ILOVEU and it opens. The whole thing feels of quality. Smooth dials, solid construction. Once I opened the Crytex you see through a heart shaped window into the cyclinder 2 rings, one gold and one silver...the gold ring being the largest. They are the replicas of the LOTRs ring! I wish they were metal but they are plastic. Nevertheless they look great! Also in the box was 2 leather necklaces so you can hang the rings around your neck. Nice! I've read the instructions on how to change the Cryptex password and while it sounds easy enough I'm not going to try, just in case I break it. I don't think my girl friend will guess the code is ILOVEU that easily. Overall, this is excellent. It would look great on your desk! I'm very happy and impressed with this item. Well worth the money.

I was expecting a rip-off but this is actually very good quality cryptex

There was only few reviews but their overwhelming positivity and nice amount of pictures made me order this one for my friend. And now I'm holding this and having second thoughts about giving it to her and keeping it to myself. The quality of this thing is very good, it's heave and rigid. The screws you have to take out before you can change the password didn't match the whole 100% but it still works like a charm. The two rings inside was a nice surprise although I already have my gift ready to put inside.

Cryptex was made by copper It’s very heavy, I like the design very much. Take me a while to solve the password and I still working on how to change it. 2 rings in there also in good quality.

Great gift for him or her! Sturdy construction neat gift!

I gave this as a birthday present to my husband who loves it! It came in bag that had the box inside. I gave him hints as to what the code to open it was he figured it out pretty easily, my hints were too good. But it's very heavy, sturdy. The rings were too small to wear except the larger one for my pinky, however it comes with the necklaces to wear them that way if you're even interested in the LOTR rings. Overall very pleased as it made my hubby happy and you can reprogram the phrase to open it and put whatever gift inside if you felt so inclined to do so.
