The price reduction alone led me to upgrade from the original 3DS in glossy black. With the nostalgia of the classic matte finish in SNES throwback design plus the bigger screens makes this is a must-buy for any Nintendo fan. My only complaint is lack of an AC Adapter (battery charger) in the box; it seems greedy to exclude and charge extra for a required accessory, when not everyone will have a charger on hand already. The price drop more than compensates, however. Fully recommended!

It is of a much better build quality for an additional 50 dollars. I have a new 2ds xl but this is much heavier and you can tell it's of a tougher material and speakers in a better much better spot that don't get covered up when you hold it as well as the option to switch out the battery. It runs great and came quickly. No complaints

I really enjoy my awesome SNES New 3DS XL. It just looks great and feels great as well. I like the fact that it is not glossy (or should I say it is pseudo glossy) unlike my other New 3DS XL. The buttons are purple which is just like my good old SNES. Playing Virtual Console SNES games on this system is a fun-filled treat. I especially love playing Super Mario World, Zelda A Link To The Past, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong COuntry as well as the included Super Mario Kart, a $7.99 value! This system is definitely recommended for SNES fans like myself. It's a top-notch, high quality New 3DS XL. I only wish they release more Virtual Console SNES games.

Well, it's a 3ds with a SNES finish, I love the look and you will always find a game that interests you on the new 3ds, I've always been a big fan of Luigi's Mansion on gamecube so my main exclusive that I like on here is Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, I'm also looking forward to the remake of Luigi's Mansion later this year. What more is there to say really it's a New 3DSXL with a Super NES finish works the same as all the others.

I managed to pick this up, after selling a few items and ending up with around $20 or far less out of pocket. I managed to swipe one, the day before it went back up! As for the console itself, it is a New Nintendo 3DS XL. That is not what makes this special. It is the SNES deco or styling that draws nostalgic people such as myself. I was born in the late 70s, and grew up mainly in the 90s and early 00s. Of all of the video game consoles I enjoyed the most, and has aged the best, would be the 16-bit era or games. Yes, this system comes with a copy of the SNES version of Mario Kart, which is not the game I wish Nintendo had packed in. I would’ve preferred Super Mario Allstars, or another SNES anthology game like that. It is a nice inclusion, nonetheless. Overall, I highly recommend this version of the New Nintendo 3DS XL.

Gotta say, I am very pleased with this system. I got it on sale for Prime Day and I am not regretting it. I come from an old original 3DS black version, and the first thing I noticed is how much more tightly built the 3DS XL is. If you remember the old 3DS, it was rickety and creaky. The second thing I noticed is a slight matte finish work. My prayers have been answered; no more sweaty, fingerprint riddled gloss. Who is this 3DS aimed at? Those like me, who were gaming at the very end of the NES era and into the SNES one. It's a nostalgic throwback to my old Super Mario World days. The added free Super Mario Kart is another great throwback for me. I find myself looking at this 3DS sitting on my desk and remembering the click of the SNES power switch, hearing the spring in the reset switch that would get stuck every now and then, and feeling that slight plastic bend of the eject lever. Now, I know you've seen some reviews stating that this is a TN screen. Yes. Yes, it is. And if you're not using IPS or VA for everything, you're not gonna notice a durn thing. If you do own a lot of IPS paneled devices, then aye, you will notice a little bit of washed out colors. Honestly, though, not enough to note ANY difference unless you throw them side by side. TN screens tend to be favored by gamers for low-latency. IPS screens are favored by artists and media enthusiasts who want full color accuracy. In my opinion, IPS is great in TV's for color accuracy and viewing angles and TN is good for solo gaming monitors and gaming devices. As an afterthought, this system looks great with the Majora's Mask theme from the theme shop. The purple is a perfect match to the switches on the front and the two purple SNES controller buttons. Plus, the song of healing background music and Zelda 64 menu sounds are great. A little N64 nostalgia added to the mix. Quick Thoughts / TL;DR - Yes, the original 3DS charger is compatible. - If the nostalgia is not for you or you never owned an SNES, get the cheapest one. 3DS XL go on sale a lot. Or get a theme you like. - As far as I can see, there is no easy way to take out the SD card. Not sure if it's like this for all XL or just this one. It does have one, though. - The code for Super Mario Kart is in the bag with the instruction manual. - The stylus is not as snazzy as the original 3DS telescoping one. - Gives about 5-7 hours solid play time depending on screen settings. Much better than the original. - I don't expect the paint job to last forever.

First impression is very good! Build quality seems top notch - no defects, no screen wiggle like my old 3DS XL. The SNES decal looks great and the screen seems like a well-done TN panel. A lot of people will complain about TN rather than IPS but it does have advantages in brightness, response time and battery life. Will update after some playtime. Update: After several days with the N3DS XL SNES I have a few additional thoughts to add. Relative to a regular 3DS XL (should apply to all New 3DS units): - the 3D face tracking is awesome. Much more effective 3D than the old units. - the "C-stick" nub is a bit too stiff for my tastes but works fairly well and is definitely useful in games that support it. - replacing the memory card isn't that difficult as long as you have a tiny screwdriver handy. Removing the cover is easy. - I'm neutral on the new layout for the headphone jack and game cards. Specific to the SNES unit I have: - the top screen is very slightly crooked, tilted clockwise. It took me several days to notice and doesn't really bother me, but if I could take off half a star I would as that would definitely bug some people. - Battery life seems great, noticeably better than my old unit, and the auto-brightness feature can be useful. - The Blue battery LED is less bright than my old 3DS: this is VERY GOOD as the old one was blinding at night. I could literally light up a small room with it. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. The included game download is nice (never had Super Mario Kart so it's not nostalgic for me) and I love the SNES aesthetic. Build quality is rock solid with the minor exception of screen alignment and the added features are very nice.

First off, I got this on the 24th of November which was awesome on Amazon's part! Anyways, this SNES edition is a beauty!!! When fully opened and flipped over, it looks like the top of the SNES system. When it's opened and ready to play, the gray and lavender buttons remind me of the good days of gaming! The box the system comes in is the same look and feel of a brand new SNES game. DO NOT FORGET TO BUY A SHELL CASE AND SCREEN PROTECTOR!! You want this system to look beautiful for years to come! Now here are my thoughts on the good and the bad. Good: It is beautiful The colors are perfect and as any SNES fan from back in the early 90s on will drool at the look of this system! I did! Nintendo has always amazed me, with the quality of their products! Whether this is your first 3DS or 10th, you will love this! Included is a free download code for the SNES Mario Kart which is awesome. Bad: NOTHING Some people complain about the lack of a power plug, but you can get one here on Amazon for under $8. Buy the combo Amazon has.

Being that the SNES is my favorite video console of all time - I had high hopes for this. Cosmetically it looks great - but the screens are both TN displays and being that I currently have a black New 3DS XL with dual IPS display screens I cannot justify shelling out the $200 for something inferior that I really don't need. First 3 pictures are of SNES version with the TN screens (left) vs black 3DS with IPS screens. Last picture is SNES version (left), black with IPS (middle) and galaxy version with TN screens (right). The black with the IPS screens has better depth of color and does not wash out when tilted. Unfortunately from all I have read there is no way to figure out which display Nintendo used. Anyone used to the IPS screens will probably be disappointed in the difference. Other than that it looks AWESOME (much better than the Galaxy version with the very noticeable sticker). If you don’t care about the IPS vs TN display then it is perfect for any SNES fan! EDIT: Bumping the rating to 5 stars. I still stand by the fact that these screens do not look as nice as the IPS displays - BUT they are brighter so for those of us that that are a little older, and now have to turn our phone screens etc up to full brightness to see them, you may be better off with the TN displays. I do have some SNES Virtual Console games downloaded that are very dim on the 3DS already so any brightness helps, and the screen looks fine as long as you are not comparing it to an IPS screen. Plus the hinges are much better than my current 3DS and I really do love the way it looks.

I've been with the original 3ds since it first released, reluctant to upgrade because screen size wasn't so important to me. Decided to FINALLY make the upgrade to a new 3ds xl in the system's twilight hour, as I've been wanting to experience the new Smash Bros and had a gift card given to me for Christmas. When I saw this nostalgic snes edition released, I finally pulled the trigger. Glad I did. First off: the screen. Many of these reviewers had me seriously doubting my purchase after I started reading into the whole IPS vs TN screen. Upon receiving it, I have to say I don't know what all the fuss is about. Maybe it's because I'm coming from an original 3ds, but I'm really nothing but pleased with the picture quality. It looks like a significant improvement. Secondly, this system is gorgeous. The pictures really don't do it justice. It's a LOT better looking in person, and the satin finish does not attract fingerprints as much. As an older gamer who loved the snes, I was torn between this system and the black one. As soon as I opened the box I immediately felt like I'd made the right choice. As this is my first experience with the new 3ds xl, I have to compliment the build quality. It's hefty enough to feel substantial, but not overly heavy. The hinge feels solid and snaps into multiple positions with a satisfying click. The face-tracking and stable 3d feature is an incredible addition! The cartridge slot and stylus location on the bottom is a refreshing and much needed change. So maybe I'm an old man. So maybe I don't care as much as I should about TN vs IPS mumbo-jumbo. All I know is I had an original 3ds for years, and this upgrade has left me tickled pink. I can't wait to throw my money into the eShop and go rummaging for old DS classics.
