Got the item as inspected. Started detecting with 400 on areas that i had previously been with my Ace 300. Its a trashy kind of area, soil then clay, hard, very dry condition. I had some areas that i went over with 300 that were kind of so so on should i dig or not.... So with the 400 I could not believe how much easier it was to discriminate between several objects close together. Couple of things.... the frequency of the 400 is set off by my setting my pointer down on the ground with it on facing the coils on detector... nothing bad just don't do it! The iron audio discrimination button is awesome!! Except when you have an iron target real close to say a silver target. Iron audio will pick up the iron target so you will think it is a bad target. Simple solution.... if this is a question after using iron audio on a target.. slow way down and use pin point button on 400. 99% of the time the 400 pin point button will give you two separate tones to tell you hey, this could be a iron and silver target close together!! Overall i am very happy with the machine. I even was getting clear signal from coins that were 10 and 12 inches down with this standard coil. First day in area above what i missed previously, 13 wheat pennies, 3 seventies years pennies, 1 1942 mecury dime, and a white gold dragon necklace. Found all in 2 hours. Happy hunting!! Thumbs up Garrett!!

Great detector with many of the features of the AT PRO at a lower price point. This is also a major upgrade over the ACE 150 and 250. It handles interference much, much better and the DD coil separates signals way better. If you're a beginner, intermediate, or even seasoned metal detectorist this is well worth the money.

I've probably spent 8 hours or so detecting with this in and around my neighborhood. So far the best of the best stuff I've found is a 1940 Walking Liberty silver half dollar and a 1932 14k gold class ring. Not too bad at all. Hands down, this is definitely a good detector!

I've had my detector for over a year now and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I've found things around 8-10" down using the stock coil and have since added a couple of NEL coils and a Garrett 4" coil. In my opinion, it's a great detector for anyone who wants to get into the hobby. If there was anything I would change on the detector, it would be the addition of a volume knob as the pinging sounds can be a bit loud and distracting---especially if you are trying to not be the center of attention! I was able to minimize it though by removing the "brain" of the detector from the shaft (two screws on the underside) and then putting some duct tape and a bit of cloth over the slots where the speaker is. It lessened the volume.

I had the ace 350 for a few years and this came out. So I sold the 350 and bought the 400 I'm glad I did the 350 is an awesome machine but the 400 is better with the tones, iron audio and I love the number scale. I have found all the nickels I have missed in my yard. After I master this I'm going to buy the At Gold. Great service from the seller as well

I’ve had the ace 150 and it was good ! I also have the GOFIND me 60 by minelab ! It is ok but digs a lot of trash ! I went to the beach twice and only did a little part twice with the ace 400 . I first time was over $20 in coins and a Tiffany and company silver heart ring . The second time was actually today ! I found over $36 in coins , a Silver Jesus pendant and a Tokugawa Shogun coin dating back over 400 years ! I have fallen in love with the Ace400 it did really good in all that mineralized beach ! Amazing grace ! Can I get a witness :) OMG update 5 rings and 3 400 year old coins plus $130 in coins . Just in 5 adventures :).

After looking for a nice metal detector for my son, I decided to purchase this one for a Christmas Present. After today I'm glad I did. 15 minutes into it, he a good target. Very pleased with the purchase and the seller. Shipping was good.

Bought this for my husband. It came with an instruction manual and, after watching the video package on the Garrett site, it was so easy to work with. My husband loves it, it works so much better than the older (other brand) we purchased some 25 years ago.... Would recommend this package to all.

This is my first decent metal detector since I sold the Ace 250 a few years back. I decided to give the hobby another try when we recently bought 26 acres of partially wooded land. Before the 400, I bought a cheap Chinese detector and quickly found that you get what you pay for. After lots of research and having a limited budget, I went with the Garrett Ace 400. I've been very pleased with my purchase and have been having good success with my treasure hunts. The DD coil makes a huge difference when hunting on property that has a ton of trash and iron throughout it. Learning the different tones, matching tones to the VDI numbers and digging more confidently has hooked me into this hobby big-time. The only thing I plan to purchase for the 400 is the 5x8 DD coil when I can. I would also recommend a good pin-pointer. I've been using a cheap one (GP-Pointer) and it's been getting me by for a bit now, but I plan to purchase the Garrett Pro Pointer AT when I can. I would recommend the Ace 400 to anyone wanting a nice metal detector. Down the road, I hope to pick up the Garrett AT Max.

I absolutely love this detector and would give it 10 stars if possible. I've been a dirt fisher for about 5 years now so I thought I would upgrade from my Bounty Hunter Time Ranger(a decent detector in it's own right) to a Garrett. I was saving up for an AT Pro but then this gem became available and boy howdy am I glad. I was literally waiting on my front porch for the UPS dude to deliver it, I'm in my mid 40's and I felt like I was 10 years old again waiting for Christmas morning. I had been watching the 3 very informative and in depth manufacturer videos on Youtube over and over so when I received the 400 I had it assembled and was at an old local park that has been there since the 20's swinging away 30 mins after opening the box. I had been to this particular park several times before but not with the Ace 400 and I was blown away with it's capabilities. I was hitting coins at 8-9 inches through trash and junk that myself and many others had missed and I'm not talking crappy ass modern clad either. I recovered everything from Indian Heads to Walking Liberties and had no idea that these older coins were even there this whole time. I'm now systematically going to all the places I had previously visited and my results thus far have been more than pleasing. The 400 is very easy to learn how to use and beyond accurate, the headphones that come with it are very nice, small and comfortable, not big and bulky like the rapper headphones in a studio pair, plus the volume control is a nice touch. My one and only complaint is that the "included" coil cover was not included in my order, but I procured one for $15 because a coil cover is a must in my opinion. So, in conclusion, the Ace 400 is a superb mid-level machine, accurate, easy to use and if an object is there it will find it up to roughly 10" depending on size and conditions. Oh, watch the Youtube manufacturer videos before you use it, they are a great learning resource. 5-9-16- Update, I bought a second Ace 400 as a gift from a different seller on Amazon. I was a bit ticked off because this order did not have the "included" coil cover in it either!!!! Neither box had obvious tampering and I am unsure why I was the lucky one and didn't receive a coil cover in either order. If it were not for the quality and performance of the Ace 400, I would never buy anything from Garrett again, If you advertise something, ya best deliver or it just makes you look like a big fat LIAR!! 6-7-16-Update, I contacted Garrett and they sent me the missing coil covers, the missing cover issue has been settled. I still love the Ace 400 & would still give it 5 stars as it has already paid for itself two fold and I'm well on my way to an AT Pro.
