  • Comes with soft rubber eyeguard;the sturdy plastic case-protects the eyepiece from dust and moisture and perfects for the bayonet mount properly.M28.5x0.6 threaded for the standard 1.25" astronomy filters and Barlow lens and astronomical devices

For the price, this is a great eyepiece. Don’t expect sweeping views that a 60-80 degree FOV eyepiece will give you. What you will get is a very bright image compared to your other eyepieces, mainly due to the low magnification a 40mm eyepiece brings. I use this with an 8” SCT with a focal length of 2030mm, so even large eyepieces result in high magnifications. The 40mm results in a lower magnification than my 25mm that makes observing deep sky objects more pleasureable (well, instead of faint blobs, they become brighter blobs :-P). I will note however that 40mm is probably too wide for a 1.25” eyepiece. You end up seeing a small amount of the sides of the eyepiece tube. I’ve read that 32mm is probably the max size you should use with a 1.25” eyepiece... anything above that is best suited for a 2” eyepiece. However, if you’re okay seeing some of the side of the tube and your main goal is to have an extremely affordable, low power eyepiece (without using a focal reducer), this eyepiece is a steal.

SVBONY 40mm 1.25 inches Plossl Telescope Eyepiece is excellent for finding celestial objects using setting circles or by star hopping. Once the object is centered in this 40mm eyepiece a higher magnification eyepiece, or a digital can be inserted in the telescope's focuser to continue observing, respectively, visually or photographically. The accompanying photos were taken by finding M13, M27 and M11 with the SVBONY 40mm eyepiece and my telescope's setting circles and then imaging these deep sky objects with the SVBONY SV305 camera.

I'm using a 6 inch sct, so low power eyepieces are a definite must. I found this lovely item while browsing and thought "there's no way an eyepiece this cheap could be good, especially as it's 40mm," which should be too much for a 1.25 eyepiece. But at this price it's worth a shot. Even if it wasn't very good it wouldn't have cost much. This sucker is actually not bad at all! On first use many Messier objects were visible quite easily. Several nebulae were clearly visible with averted vision. I'll still need a focal reducer to be able to fit most of the open clusters in the field all at once. Can't wait to use it for the Pleiades and, even better, the Orion Nebula!

Most scopes ship with a cheap eyepiece that's more powerful than this. This isn't expensive, but is quality optics. And less powerful than what ships with most scope. You WANT less powerful for your first good lens. Uneducated people buy the most powerful they can buy. Experienced people want the less powerful to see a brighter view of a larger part of the sky. The lower the MM of a lens, the more powerful. A 25 mm is more powerful than this 40 mm one here that I got. If you don't know what you're doing, get the 40 mm one. Will look stunning and bright. The 21 mm one will show bigger, blurrier, darker view of just a part of something. And it will scoot past your eye fast, because of the movement of the earth. But with this, you can linger on the moon and stars and planets and really drink it in with that "lost in space" feel.

Sbony makes good products at an affordable price. This is well built and delivers a nice crisp image. The low magnification and wide field of view is best for locating the target object. Then replace it with a higher power eyepiece if necessary. The eyepiece is a bit tight in its case. To get it out, don't try to pull it. Simply push on the bottom of the case and it pops out.

This 40mm lens is great! Was a little sketchy because of the price of the lense, but this lense turned out to be a great lense and exceeded my expectations. It comes with a nice hard plastic case and when viewing the moon was great! Looked at the orion nebula as well through this eyepiece and the image quality was very crisp! Really want to see how a 4mm and 6mm would do from this brand!

just used it feb 6 2020 last night on the waxing gibbous moon thru a 1900mm etx125 meade telescope. results were awesome. actually very exciting quality. the eyepiece seems to have very fine coatings or a special quality of glass because the live view of the Moon is very crystal clear and very radiant, i am impressed! the only bad thing: i could not get the eyepiece out of the case, i had to stretch the rubber eyecup with my 2 fingertips and yank it out of the case until the rubber flew off the eyepiece so poor quality packing and difficult and almost impossible to open from its plastic container.

Wow, I’m very impressed with this eyepiece. It’s easy to view with, as it has a much wider view than normal lenses. And it gives you a very bright and clear focus for the objects you want to see. So far, I’m very impressed with several SVBONY products I’ve purchased.

Over all quality is superb. I can't see spending big bucks for a 40 mm plossel eyepiece. The 40mm lens is a significant larger field of view over the more common 25mm plossels floating around. This is a excellent value and money well spent.

Perfect and comfortable to use for EPP Astrophotography. This lens allowed me to capture Andromeda in all of its splendor with my crop sensor DSLR. I could not be more pleased with its weight and fine build. Why spend so much for another brand, when this is all you need!!!
