Good Product and great service
I bought the Lowrance for my boat and it was fairly easy to hook up. I received it promptly.

Excellent!!!!
Bolted this to the trolling motor on my john boat and away we went! Worked perfectly out of the box and I love the the screen was nice and bright and detailed. There were a few false positives, but this is to be expected with a product like this (Especially in this price range). It doesn't have maps, but you can set waypoints; still quite handy if you ask me. All-in-all a great unit for the price!

Real Life Story and Review
This Lowrance Hook2 5x was a breeze to install. I took my very old depth finder out of my fish-ski boat and put in this Lowrance in around 25 minutes. The instructions were clear and it's very simple if you know the basics about installing fish finders. After installing, I took it out on the lake to fish and really put it to the test for a few hours. My kids were fishing while I was learning about this Lowrance. Here are my thoughts: First, it really is easy to use. With minimal effort, someone who is new to fish finders could figure it out by reading the short instruction book in the box. I've used fish finders before, so it was super easy for me to figure out. And yes, you can literally plug it in and start using it immediately. Second, it does show depth, water temperature, and speed, and they work well; it even showed some minimal speed when we were drifting fast in the wind. Third, there are no maps but there is basic GPS plotting. This is something I'm only a little familiar with, so it took me some time to figure it out. (Note: download the full Lowrance manual onto your phone before you get to the lake, in case you don't have data connection - I learned the hard way!). I was able to figure it out after some trial and error. You can mark spots, put certain icons on the spots (like a fish, a warning sign, a dot, etc.). You can also navigate back to a spot. Basically, since it's a GPS unit you can use basic GPS navigation without maps (hypothetically you could use this GPS feature on dry land as well). Anyway, so far I'm really happy with this Lowrance. It was bright enough to read in the sun even with sunglasses on. You can set alarms like a depth alert and a low voltage alert. You can even turn on a feature that puts little numbers by the fish that shows their depth. The downscan mode is pretty cool as well; it gives a more detailed view (only the 5x and the 7x have downscan). I like this unit and am really glad I own it! It'll for sure make fishing more interesting this Summer. If you're wondering about this Lowrance Hook2 5x, go online and find a manual to give you more info. I'll come back here and update this review if I feel the need. Happy fishing!

Great product, easy to install and works great.
I am old and have had a lot of fishing boats. Most of them have had Lowrance equipment on them. These new units are just such a great improvement over the older models. My latest 16 foot Starcraft had a Lowrance X25B mounted on it when I purchased it. It works great. I do miss the larger displays that I had on my salmon boats. When this one came available I just had to have it. The screen is almost twice the size of my old unit and the added functions are a hoot. Now I can see almost twice as many fish that I am not catching due to the wide angle function. ;) Seriously though, this is a nice unit, easy to use, great installation instructions and hardware. The manual is a bit skimpy, but once it is installed just start pushing buttons, you will soon figure it out. I love it. The display is bright and the controls are easy to use. I have never had a single problem with any of my Lowrance equipment. It is reassuring to see the responses in the comments by the Lowrance folks in the event that I do have a problem in the future.

Great deal
Perfect size for my 170 proline. It came and was missing the power cord. Contacted the seller and they apologized and sent me one right away. Very happy.

Great even for a novice.
I have never had a fish finder before but had seen others use them. So consider me a newbie. That being said this Lowrance fish finder was super easy for me to set up and easy to use. Instructions were easy to follow and I had this set up in no time on my boat. It's just the right size too. Not so big that it takes up an unusually large amount of space and not so small that's it's hard to see. In fact the screen is nice and bright and has good contrast. I have found that it's very accurate as well. Pretty much every time it has spotted something and I have dropped my line I have at least gotten bites but most of the time actually catch something. Good price for a solid and easy to use fish finder.

Don't be misslead by the picture on the box.
its a nice fish finder, but don't be mislead by the picture on the box, it may not have all the features shown. It depends on the model you purchase. I like the fish finder and had it installed by a boat yard. But was disappointed when I found out the picture on the box showing a 3 D image underwater was not included in my Fish Finder. It is included in a more expensive model, that I would have purchase if I had know it. Now I am stuck with the fish finder in less I want to spend the money to have this one taken off my boat and returned and then pay for another to be reinstalled.
