How cast iron is meant to be made!
WOW! I was impressed with this product before even opening the box. The quality of packaging often says a lot about the quality of the product inside, and the pride that the company has in their product, and right away I new I had purchased a great product. The sturdy, well designed box, with the concise seasoning instructions printed right on the side, spoke volumes. As a collector, connoisseur, and daily user of cast iron, I felt like a kid in a candy shop as I pulled the “Bellemain Cast Iron Bacon Press” from its box. Weighing in at 2lbs 12oz, and 8 1/2 inches around, this press is no slouch. Picking the press up for the first time felt like it had been custom made just for me. Evenly balanced, with a 5 inch wide, 1 inch dowel handle, (well secured with 1 inch screws) the press feels very comfortable in your hand. By now you must be thinking, “what more can this guy say, it’s just a bacon press?” Let me tell you, the best is yet to come. Like any good movie, when it comes to ironware it’s all about the casting! Sure this is a great looking press, with its well finished wooden handle, beautifully cast stars, scroll work, and those big bold words “BACON PRESS,” not to mention that gorgeous plump pig perfectly centered with its curly Q tail, none of that matters. Nope, doesn’t matter one bit. Any cast iron lover will tell you, the first thing you look for is warpage, closely followed by large rough “pores” (indicating poor material quality, or bad casting), in either case we’re having none that, and there was none here. The casting looks perfect! Now all that’s left to do is season your “Bellemain Cast Iron Bacon Press” and you’re good to go. What?!?! You’ve never seasoned cast iron before? No worries, look on the side of that beautiful box and follow the simple directions. Once seasoned you will have a stylish, and working, piece of cast iron that will last forever.

Great press not just for bacon
I ordered the bacon press, received it, and would like to say well done. I used the instructions provided to season the press and then used it to cook a steak. It worked so great that I tried bacon and a grilled cheese sandwich, although I wouldnt suggest a grilled cheese sandwich (flat). All in all, it works great and will recommend it to my firends.

Excellent product, simple and effective. Well made.
This bacon press is just the right size to be practical in the kitchen, and heavy enough to be effective in its purpose. I like the wooden handle, which stays much cooler to the touch then some of the presses that have the wound wire type of handle. My wife and I cook a lot of thicker breakfast sausage, which we butterfly before cooking. Because of the way that the sausage pieces when they are heated, on one side just the tips would cook, and on the other side the middles would cook. This bacon press keeps the sausage sections flat for even cooking, and they even seem to cook faster using the Press. I have also used this on my outdoor grill for steak, and I think they cook more quickly as well as more evenly. I Have No Reservations recommending this item to anyone. I am very pleased with this product.

Great bacon press
This is a great bacon press. I've wanted one for a very long time and had to decide from a smaller rectangular one and this nice large round press. It does a good job of filling my entire skillet so every slice of bacon gets pressed. The press heats up and cooks the bacon even faster. I can also see that it would be great as a sandwich press or on a grill. It does get hot, and the handle is wooden, so it gets hot as well, so you need a hot pad to handle it, but that would be the same as with any of the other presses I looked at so I'm going to to ahead and give 5 stars and the suggestion that the manufacturer consider trying a silicone handle to see if that helps with the issue. I always read the one star ratings to see the negative comments, and honestly I have to say that anyone who puts a cast iron utensil in the dishwasher is a total idiot and should not be allowed to own good cookware.

Perfect size and Easy to clean
I love this press for cooking bacon! First, the obvious, it's round. I've always wanted to buy a bacon press, but why rectangle in a round skillet? I've used this awesome round one several times in my 12 inch cast iron skillet and it works perfectly. It only takes about 6 minutes to cook thick slice bacon and if you like your bacon crispy, using this press will make very crispy bacon. It is a cinch to clean up. I honestly have not washed it even once. I treat it like I do my skillet and just wipe it clean with a paper towel. I can't wait to try it on some pesky pork chops.

Serious Build Quality!
I'm new at this griddle cooking gig, so I am still exploring ways to get the job done right. We didn't have a cast iron frying pan big enough to season this bacon press, so I wiped it down thoroughly with canola oil and cooked it for 20 minutes at 250/300F on a sheet of tinfoil resting on the grate in our gas grille. It survived my mischief and is hopefully ready to get to work this week. I'd like to have additional information about using it in applications beyond flattening bacon. I squished some hamburger balls flat today with it, and we are still alive after chomping down my first attempt at smashers. The owners of this company seem very conscientious, and I'm confident they will address any product issues instantly. This thing is cool beyond your wildest expectations!

Flatten that bacon
I give this Bacon Press five stars. It's appropriately heavy, because it is round, it works nicely in my round frying pan. I use it in a 14" pan, so it doesn't cover the whole area, but I don't need it to. When the bacon bubbles up, I lay on the press, and that's it, the bacon is flat. The handle is wood, it feels smooth in my hand, and is the correct diameter that makes it easy to hold, I think it's about 1 1/4" inches. It just feels right. The press is cast iron, so after I wash it up with soap and water, I spread a thin layer of oil on it, let it soak in for a minute, then wipe it off and put it away. We grow our own tomatoes and have BLTs about once a week, that's why I went looking for the press to begin with. This makes the bacon easy to put in a sandwich, thanks for a great product.

Pressed the bacon as nicely as wife presses my shirts!
I just recently received my cast iron bacon press and have used it twice. Both times along with my 12" cast iron pan. Used it as a bacon press and as a sausage press. Worked great in both instances. The sausages were sliced lengthwise and would have curled and cooked unevenly without the press. The bacon cooked more quickly and more evenly. I was surprised at the difference that the press made! The press is cast iron so I expect it to last just about forever. It's well finished, no rough metal anywhere. It's the right weight and the right size for a 12" C.I pan The coating appears to be a nonstick seasoning that needs no other treatment. It's attractive enough to keep out somewhere if you have the room

Fantastic!!!
I received this product yesterday and had to use it right away. It's great for any type of meat and helps cook everything evenly. I never would have thought to use a round one instead of a square one but hellooooo it fits so much easier in my cast iron skillets. If you're looking for a cast iron press you won't be disappointed in this one!

Bacon Press Bonus Feature: Cuts down on bacon grease spatters all over the range - or the cook!
I use this HEAVY press often now when frying up bacon. I use my oven timer to remind myself when to turn pieces over while they are cooking. Strips do come up flat and crisp. The bacon press also makes it easier to "harvest" bacon grease after the frying is done and the bacon is removed from the pan. (Hint: have a few paper plates on the counter to hold the bacon press while you are flipping the bacon strips over for the other side to finish. A fork and tongs work well for me. Depending upon the thickness of the bacon I usually do about 3-4 minutes on the first side and then another 3 minutes on the other side. I leave a few pieces of paper towel folded in place to hold the bacon when it is done.) P.S. It is manufactured in Taiwan.
