On the surface, it looks a lot like an Autel AL419...but it's not. It is very similar in feature set, but just a little bit better in two ways: 1) The firmware is better. I was chasing down an EVAP leak, and the live data interface and refresh rate was excellent. The interface is colorful and easy to decipher at a glance. Updating the firmware was easy on a Windows PC. The updater program is available on the manufacturer's website and it automatically fetches the firmware .bin files and flashes them. 2) The button placement is better. When working on my cars, I'm usually wearing gloves of some kind. With the NEXPEAK NX501, I can wear thick winter gloves and still get clear button depresses. The Autel AL419 has thin membrane buttons that are close together and it's hard to feel what you're pressing through gloves. Otherwise, it's very similar. They are obviously related in some ways (same housing, carrying case, etc). Since they are both in the same price range, I'd stick to this NEXPEAK for the reasons above. If you're upgrading or adding an additional tool to your Autel kit, be aware that the OBDII cables appear to be the same, but the pinout is different. While fine for the price and target use case, it's not perfect. The english translation on the updater app is somewhat unclear. You need to be holding any button while connecting the USB cable to the PC to boot the device in update mode. There is no macOS updater. The updater is automatic and entirely dependent on successfully fetching the firmware from their website. I'd rather be able to directly download a copy of the firmware in case the website goes down.

After receiving this scanner, we plugged into our truck’s DLC, navigated through the various functions to test for functionality. Make sure vehicle engine is off when unplugging . The scanner comes in a nice case. The print is easy to read.

So far I do like this unit. While I am not a mechanic but have used my neighbors very expensive Diagnostic Reader, this one does not seem much different. It reads codes and tells you most the basic information that I need. I can't speak from a mechanic perspective but from the average Joe, this is more than I would need.

This thing is GOLD...or whatever precious stone or metal you want to attribute it to!!! For 50 buck you can't ask or hope for anything better. After installing an aftermarket radio system in my 2009 Silverado 1500 the OBD port would no longer communicate with my generic OBD2 scanner, that works perfectly on my 1998 F150 and other newer cars. After spending almost two weeks researching and testing fuses and power I finally boiled it down to one of the first suggestions I had read, which was use a better scanner. Bought this gadget Tuesday, was delivered Wednesday, and on Thursday I am getting the replacement sensors I need to clear up my code troubles before inspection. 100% GOLD!!!

With aging cars I found it necessary to purchase a code reader. This reader has a really nice large screen and the cord easily reached the obd connector in the car. The case it comes with is nice it holds all of the wires and will certainly protect the product. This code reader does as much as all of the expensive ones at a fraction of the cost. I plugged it in immediately because my wife's car battery was struggling. This immediately took the volts reading from the battery. Very nice feature. Bottom line is if you looking to save time and money this product will do both.

This works perfectly. I’m not a certified mechanic but this will allow me to pull Error codes from my car and sidestep the $99.00 diagnostic charge from the dealer. Error codes and what they mean can be found on Google for your vehicle...not all will understand what they mean. I may be able to fix some of these error codes; but it now allows me to go to my dealer or garage and give them the Error code/s. Pays for itself by using it one time. Those $99.00 diagnostic charges are extra to what needs to be replaced or fixed.

I have recently purchased the Nexpeak NX501 OBD Code reader and I am impressed with its functionality. I did require assistance to update the unit’s firmware. After downloading the software from the Nexpeak web site I received a message indicating that there was a failed driver installation, so this concerned me. I emailed tech support and received a prompt reply from Mr. Lee stating that this is normal for the NX501 and I also received a link to a pdf file specific to the NX501 (Nexpeak NX501 Software Update Guidelines V1.2.pdf). These new guidelines detailed the process to successfully update the unit’s firmware by pressing any key on the unit THEN connect the USB cable to your PC.

Price: for the amount of functions this tool can perform it is being sold at a huge bargain. Ease of use: You can clearly navigate through the tool to find what you're looking for, and if there is a part you do not quiet understand than refer to the manual that comes with is because it will clear things up for you. Bottom line if you're looking for a quality scan tool at a damn good price this one is the way to go. If I had the time I would have made a video but time is valuable now a days!

The NX 501 is a good OBD2 tester and has quite a few great features that I like. It is fairly simple to use and has features like check and erase codes, I/M readiness, Data stream, Freeze frame, 02 sensor test, Evap system, On board monitoring, Battery check as well as your vehicle information. The NX 501 has a long cord makes it easy to check your codes without having to bend down to it. The USB plug also makes it very simple to download it to your computer. Well worth the money to be able to check codes in your car. It also has a nice handy zipper bag to store your reader in while not in use.

I bought NX301 for myself and this is for my uncle. Compare to NX301, NX501 is kind of updated one. It has color screen 'and more specific function indicator for each code. After you connected to the car, it takes about 30' to complete the check then you can find out the problem quickly according to instruction book. Good and easy use especially for older people.
