My wife wanted a drum kit for Christmas, and we live in an apartment. As you may have guessed a drum kit does not bode well with neighbors. So after watching some youtube videos of electronics drum sets I decided this was the way to go. From my research three brands rose to the top of all the reviews. Roland, Alesis, and Yamaha. The Roland kits are pricey, but they get stellar reviews. Alesis was more affordable, and the reviews are awesome for them as well. I will be honest I did not read much into the Yamaha. I was already set it was going to be Alesis or Roland for my wife. After much research I decided the Alesis Surge Mesh kit was the best for her. It had all the features she needed, some expandability, and the reviews were all good! After she opened it, set up was relatively simple. Follow the instructions which are all in pictures. After all guys don't read the words in instructions anyways. Sat the wife behind the kit, and adjusted it to fit her. And away she went. This kit is absolutely worth every penny. The drum kit sounds extremely well. Could not be happier with it's performance! Some side notes though! So yes this kit comes with every thing you need for it, and it alone! If this is your very first drum kit you will need a throne, amplifier, and drum sticks. The kit does come with some wood tipped sticks, but in the reviews these are not the best thing for a mesh kit. My add ons to this kit! -Zildjan nylon tipped anti-vibe drums sticks. Made for electric drums, and feel awesome! -Simons DA50 Amplifier, this is a must if you want to hear your drums! Great little amp! This amp with the Surge Kit is a solid combo! -Alesis Electronic Drum Head Set. These headphones are designed for electric drums and sound amazing. Remember that part about us living in an apartment? My wife can play as loud as she wants and all you hear is the tap of the stick to the pads! These headphones are a MUST (especially for parents with young trainees :p) -Gibraltar throne... you got a nice drum kit.... sit on something that wont make your sore or tired! Gibraltar makes the best drum thrones. -Vic Firth drum stick caddy, seriously this is a nice addition to ANY drum kit. -Lastly get a quality 1/4" cable to go between the control and the amp.... DO NOT CHEAP OUT! you will regret it! All these items are available here on Amazon, or your favorite Guitar (ahem) place. :D Happy drumming!

Look. Let's call this what it is. It's a great kit to jam out at home. The aux in feature works great for people like me who like to play along to music. I've beaten the crap out of this thing two to three times a week for the past few months and I've had no issues. The USB port makes connecting to a PC easy enough and there's a far amount of different sounds built in to get creative with your sound. Would you use this as your main kit to play shows with? Probably not. But that's not what it's for. As a lifelong drummer I've felt like this kit is more than adequate for kicking back and kicking out the jams every once and a while.

Love this. My friend has the Nitro kit which is also great, this is the next step up with mesh heads and makes it seem more like a "real" drum set. 2 days ago i might have given this a 2 or 3 star rating as heads did not seem responsive/tight enough, but then i realized you could tighten the mesh heads (no mention of this in instructions). Now i feel like i am drumming an actual set! Instructions were not clear at all as some of the pieces look identical and things looked right but were upside down. Problem is, you don't realize they are upside down until they are zoomed in on later in the directions causing you to switch things around.

Very happy with this kit. Easy to put together and more than covers my needs and desires. I’m more than happy with the performance and adjustability of the sounds. Midi out works excellent for recording in Logic. Anyone that’s negative about this kit should be looking at a higher price range for nit picky features.

Pros: - excellent quality chrome stand. fixtures are top notch. easy to adjust - mesh heads are really nice. High quality. Drum sticks reflect off the surface like a real drum - I use a real drum set during lessons. The feel and response is very similar - Normal drum sets are loud. This is reasonable ... but the sounds, even on the mesh heads, are a bit louder than I expected - Love the ability to mix in music and to play along - can change the sound of any of the drums and cymbals. I ended up using the default Cons - instructions for setup weren't entirely obvious. But not too bad - even the online video wasn't clear. For example, several of the pieces are bowed. Should they bow in or out? Also, I realized after the fact that the support fixtures work better one way than the other - the electronic control box is complicated. Even after having read the instructions 3 times, it was not obvious to me how to record and replay sessions. For example, there is no glossary. The use terms like "kit" and "voice". After some playing, realized that "kit" refers to the entire drum set, and that "voice" refers to the sounds generated by any one drum or cymbal. That said, I find I use the control module is a pretty basic manner: w/ music or using the metronome. Still, I love this set, and am incredibly happy w/ my purchase and selection. If like me, you are returning to drumming after a several decade hiatus, and don't want to annoy your other household guests, this is the set for you.

Edit: About 2 months after buying it the bass drum started to lose its sensitivy, it started to go out. All of my other pads works great just my bass drum. I contacted Alesis and they shipped me out another pad the same day and only on the phone for 5 minutes. Great customer service. I may have just got a bad pad. But regardless i still like the set, but buyer beware, alesis doesnt have the best trigger system. Orginal:Absolutely amazing, i love it, plays great easy to set up, absolutely great

I finally my first electronic drum set, and I'm loving it! I'm a life-long guitarist/bassist/pianist, and wanted to have my one e-drum set, so I got this. A pro drummer might not love it, but I think it feels SO, so good and syncing it with my logic pro on my macbook, I'm having so much fun with it. :) It is true that the few built in sounds I tried were not good at all, but I knew I was buying this to hook it up with my usb into my macbook software and it's working amazingly so far. It feels just like a drum set with the mesh pads, and loving how I can hook it up to my software and get better sounds and record it.

I bought this kit as a practice kit for a small apartment. Fits a relatively small space perfectly and feels comparable enough to an acoustic kit to keep my chops in decent shape. Putting it together was pretty easy and I was able to find a good configuration of the pads to simulate acoustic kit pretty accurately built in synth kits are par for the course which is pretty decent quality and certainly enough to provide a reasonably real experience with tone and dynamics. All in all this was a great bang for the buck purchase.

Bought this unit for my 16 year old daughter. She loves it. Uses it daily - teaching herself how to use the drums. Have listened to her from speakers and she is quite impressive!!! One of the best purchases I have made for her. The only purchase that she uses multiple times every day...
