I have only been using it for a few days, but everything looks great on the UHD50. It has a great picture out of the box and made minimal changes to it. It's definitely bigger than my last Optoma projector (Optoma HD25e), but I knew that going into it. Has far as playing 1080p games or watching satellite TV in 1080p it looks no different than my 1080p Optoma projector I had before this. I haven't tested it out on any up converting regular blu rays. If you are expecting this projector to make regular 1080p content look extra special you might be disappointed. Where this really shines is with 4k UHD media. We have watched a few 4k UHD Blu rays and they look fantastic. I've also watched a few 4k tv shows and those looked great too. I really look forward to watching some 4k sports on this thing. For the price, this thing does a great job. I haven't seen any other 4k projectors to compare this too, but from the research I've done, it compares favorably with any other projector in this price range. I'd definitely recommend this projector. Its the third Optoma that I have owned. The first projector of theirs I owned has issues with dead pixels, but it was still under warranty and they fixed it. And the 1080p one that I owned before this worked for 5 years without a single problem. I've been impressed with there projectors each time I've upgraded to a new one.

I purchased this about 4 months ago. I am very happy with it! The picture quality is excellent and it looks just as good as an actual TV. The 4k looks very sharp! I mainly use it for Ps4 gaming, 4k Netflix and watching Blu Ray discs. There is no noticeable lag in gaming. My only complaints are the lag when it switches to HDR mode which sometimes gives me a split screen in which one side is a solid black. Not sure what that's all about? The only fix I know for that is to turn the projector off and then on again. Other than that.... I love the projector! I use a 120" screen in a pretty dark room.

The picture quality is actually surprisingly good. I came from a Samsung led 4k tv 6300 series I really happy with the picture this gives compared to the tv. One really nice bonus is I dont feel the insane amount of heat That I use to with the Samsung TV. The TV really would heat up the room, even if I take the projector off eco mode it still doesnt feel the same. That said I do run it on eco since I have a small 12x12 room and eco has more then enough brightness for my 92inch screen. Only downside is the input lag for games, mainly first person shooters just dont work if you are a competitive player. I can feel the difference from a 20ms tv to a 36ms input setting on the same tv so this being 50 to 57ms as I have seen quated in some site is definitely noticeable to me. Now for casual games or RTS titles anything that doesn't have to have that 1 ms rate on your mouse and that you would be buying specific hardware for this projector really works great.

This projector is amazing for the price range. Install and setup is straight forward. Video quality is outstanding. We watch Netflix and movies streamed from iTunes on AppleTV (4K HDR). Anyone questioning the lack of Dolby Vision support, do not be concerned. Many of the Netflix and iTunes movies we've streamed work perfectly fine. Fan noise is whisper quiet (after exchange) on Eco and Bright modes. I also play XBOX on this projector and have noticed a major improvement in motion blur and clarity in fast-paced first person shooters. NOTE: Speaking towards the exchange, the first projector we received had a high-pitch noise during operation. This noise was in addition to the fan noise. I was very concerned and did an exchange through Amazon. The exchange process was extremely straight forward and we received a new projector promptly. The second projector is whisper quiet as I explained above. For reference, the projector is mounted directly above our heads (about 5ft. above) and cannot be heard during movies or gaming.

This projector was released only a few months before my old 720p Optoma blew its color wheel. So a 1080p projector would have been an improvement for me. I went in mildly skeptical that in everyday use (I use projectors as TV replacements, not in a controlled home theater setup) I would really appreciate the difference from 1080p to 2160p and further doubted that a projector without a true discrete mirror for each of those pixels would be able to give a real improvement. However, at least at a 120" diagonal screen I can say that it is in fact a worthwhile improvement. With 4k content there is a very real change in your perception of the image when the pixels reach that kind of density on such a large display. My favorite experience with it so far has actually been showing photos from vacation trips (taken with a decent digital camera) as prior to that point I had never seen them displayed so well since printing large prints of photos has become a thing of the past. It is worth noting that the rotating mirror panel does generate a constant high pitched whine from this projector and it does not have exceptional brightness, contrast, color reproduction. Bottom line is that if you are value conscious and are proficient with projector install and setup this is a very good option for a projector you will use for the next 5 years or so.

The projector has no horizontal shift and very little vertical shift. A little bit of effort mounting the projector, but once it was up, I was very impressed. 4k image is lacking in clarity from that of the Sony images that I have seen, but it is much better than 1080p. When watching 1080p versus 4k Blurays, there is a clear difference. Overall, a very good and clear image. Good color. A little bit of rainbow effect for me, but I have grown accustomed to it and pretty much ignore it now. It is a little bit more noticeable in high movement, high contrast scenes. The light halo around the image is visible, but really only during black or high contrast scenes. Like the rainbow effect, I have grown accustomed to it. I am very happy with my purchase.

Simply can't beat it for the price at this time. The only comparable projector right now with a similarly long lamp life is the BenQ, but that one doesn't have good lens adjustments. The projector definitely isn't tiny, but is among the smallest currently available. I'm definitely not a projector expert, but to me the image is beautiful from sitting distance. Sure you can get up all close to it and see some artifacts from the display technology, but like I said, sitting distance it looks like a nice 4K image The only cons I've found yet (this review will be updated if more arise) are the light around the image (only really noticeable during dark scenes), and the contrast ratio could be a little better, but that seems to be a technology limitation. Overall, still the best value I could find as of March 2018.

This projector did exactly what I needed. I am using it in my bed room so I have a finite distance-to-screen-size ratio that I need. I used projectorcentral.com for thier throw distance calculator and was very happy to find this one to be within my needs. After digging through the reviews I decided to get it and I am so happy I did. My old and first ever projector was putting out 720p so this projector is a HUGE improvement. The Optoma also has much quieter fan noise than the old projector despite being MUCH bigger. I have a PS4 slim that is connected to it so its not putting out full 4K but God of War looks incredible! The on board speakers aren't fantastic but I dont use them anyway. I also have an Xbox One X but I have been engrossed in GoW so I cant fully comment on the 4K capabilities yet, but I will update when I get that going.

This is the second 4K projector I am trying. I have an in focus X 10 1080 P projector which I was looking to replace. I also have a review on the ViewSonic 747. Pros: Compared to the other XRP pixel shifting projectors, this one by far has the darkest black levels and the least gray border around the screen that I have seen. (ALL xrp based projectors will have a light gray boarder around the picture.) overall I find The black levels are excellent, the colors are phenomenal, and I find the contrast to be exceptional. If you’re looking for a budget 4K projector for home theater, this is it. It is bright and can even be used with some lights on. IMO the pj is quieter than all my previous projectors, some of which (crt) required a hush box! Lens shift and EXCELLENT focus make this pj easy to adjust. It also has digital keystone and image shift is absolutely needed. Cons: There definitely are crt and digital 1080 P projectors that have better black levels with similar contrast and color quality. I’m going to tell you that my opinion is those half million to one contrast type numbers are only under certain conditions and are generally exaggerated. Do some research and find where people that have had the equipment have actually measure these projectors. There is some light spill from the unit, but I do not find it objectionable at all. Summary: If you’re on a budget for 4K home theater this is an excellent value. It does support 3-D under certain conditions. If you’re looking for a presentation projector where brightness is a huge factor (and black levels do not matter), and you’re on a budget, you might be better off with the ViewSonic 747 . But for movies and TV and a light controlled room, I absolutely love this projector! To say that I love this projector is to say a lot, because I have had everything from crt like the sony 1030, 1031, 1272, d50, barco, benq, and a bunch of digital / others even including other optima projectors. There is no question in my mind that no (current, reasonably priced) digital projector is going to match the black level of CRT. But this projectors compromises on that certainly make up for the ease-of-use, the size, resolution, out of box color accuracy, focus and many many other factors. Again, I love this projector and I would highly recommend it!

A great performing projector with a great price. Upgrading from a Benq 1080p projector and what an amazing upgrade. Currently connected an Xbox One S, PS4 Pro, and an nVidia Shield and no issues so far. Even 1080p content looks great and sharp. GT Sport and God of War look amazing in HDR and 4K. Using Netflix on PS4 and watching Planet Earth 2 really show the ability of this projector. Pros: - Amazing picture quality - Color looks amazing - Easy setup - Price Cons: - A bit loud sometimes
