Great little saw
So far so good after a few days of heavy use. Chain appears sharp and cuts easily. I much prefer to use it as a small chain saw. It is pretty heavy extended fully on the pole. I was able to prune and fell a tree that was about 40ft tall. I did not intend to use it for such a big job but the larger Vera saw RM 1645 was broke right out of the box and this little saw came through for me.

Awesome! Truly a well-make, well-designed product!
I cannot tell how happy I am with this product and the price. I think it was sold and shipped by Amazon so it arrived exactly when it was said to arrive. This can cut through trees like butter. I took down an entire tree and trimmed the other branches of the remaining trees. I used both the extension and without. Yes, it's slightly heavy but I work in an office and I'm not a muscle guy. If you work out, you'll be fine. I did not have ANY issues with leaking oil like some reported in reviews. In fact, I absentmindedly laid it down sideways- which, I think you're not supposed to do- but no leaks after 3 days. It is also rugged. I was dropped it and it fell blade first onto the sidewalk. NO DAMAGE AT ALL! Make sure you buy and add oil before using it, be very careful with the blade, be very careful cutting branches because it will cut through them fast. Read the safety manual!

Great little chainsaw/ pole saw
Easy as pie to assemble and use. It is a little heavy on the pole end but I managed to run it for about 45 minutes non-stop (pretty good for a female). I really like the way you can easily convert from the pole extension to a hand held. It cut through everything I put it on. (cutting crape myrtles) Only con I found was with the operator running out of steam!!

Very versatile, good power, well designed:
Bought a new house with a pool. Tree in vicinity of pool was dropping tons of crud and roots were threatening the plumbing. Wife left me unsupervised for the day and next thing you know I’ve ordered this pole saw and am looking for the FedEx truck every day till it showed up. Assembled easily. Does not come with any bar n’ chain oil, but if you’ve got any SAE 30 weight oil around the house, or Wesson oil for that matter, you are good to go after filling the self-lubricating reservoir. Chain will stretch and heat up during the initial use, but adjustment and lockup is easy and fairly intuitive. Used it to gradually make my way from the pruning of upper branches to the removal of the 9 inch stump. The manual says it is limited to branches of 8 inches or smaller, but I’m a guy, so... The handles and grips are well thought out. Extension of the pole is so easy even I could do it. And it’s tough and rugged. I tend to abuse and beat up my tools pretty well, but this little beast never faltered. I have since used it on a number of other trees in my yard, and it’s so much fun I may start looking for my neighbors trees that need a trim.

Once again, the mind is more powerful than brute strength...
Several people have commented on the weight of this saw extended out on the easily adjustable, 10 foot pole, but I can tell you from experience, that really isn't an issue if you use your thinking ability first. After buying this saw several months ago, I finally got the time and opportunity (and ambition) to go out and trim up my 30 year old, four-trunk, clustered oak tree in the front yard. The first thing I did was study the tree and where exactly I needed to make cuts - either to trim out dead branches, or uneven growth, or branches that could threaten my roof during a storm. After figuring out WHERE I wanted to make my cuts, I had to decide just HOW to make those cuts. I'm no weakling, but I don't have tremendous upper body strength either, so I had to figure out how I was going to make the cuts without harming the saw or myself in the process. Fortunately, this saw is well designed, with an offset cutting angle and an integrated hook to help hold it in place once the saw is positioned, so I simply lifted the saw almost vertically until the chain blade was on top of the limb I wanted to cut (MUCH easier than approaching the limb at a 30 to 45 degree angle). At that point I moved slightly away from being directly below the part of the limb coming down and pulled the trigger. Gravity is your friend when using this saw because the weight of the saw at the end of that 10 foot pole is largely supported by the limb being cut, and the natural cutting direction is assisted by gravity. The only challenge there was making undercuts on some the the heavier, thicker limbs before cutting them from above, but even that was manageable, thanks to that angled, self-lubricating cutting head. Once the limb is cut (VERY quickly done with this sharp cutting chain) it's a matter of sliding your hand(s) further up the pole (toward the center of the pole - better mechanical advantage or leverage) to prevent the saw from crashing to the ground. Once the tree limbs were on the ground, quickly converting this saw to a small, normal chainsaw was quite literally a snap, with no tools required. I found cutting the limbs out of the tree to be the easy part. After the limbs were cut from the tree came the hard part of cutting everything into four foot lengths for the trash company to haul it all off. I used bypass loppers for the smaller branches because that was much quicker, and it preserved the sharpness of the chainsaw for the thicker branches. I bought this saw on sale and it did a superb job, saving me about $250, PLUS THE COST OF THE SAW that I'd have spent hiring someone else to trim up my tree, and this way I got the tree trimmed up just as I wanted it to be (no severe cutting back and endangering the future health of the tree). This pole/chainsaw is well designed and very well made, and after my experience with using it, I will no longer dread using it in the future. As a homeowner who routinely does my own yard maintenance, I consider this saw to be one of my better purchases.

Safer than using a ladder to prune.
A neighbor loaned me his pole saw and it was so much safer than what I had been doing; reaching from the top of a step ladder to prune the tree. I ordered it for myself the very next day. I love it. I am able to walk around the tree and prune it without ever thinking about getting up on the ladder.

i like the detachable hand held
landscaper here. we use gas powered equipment for everything work related. i bought this for home. i like the detachable hand held, it has plenty of power, oiler works great. fairly lightweight to raise overhead. since i have power all over the acre this saw will work great for me. there are several features of this saw that were well thought out in the design. chain tensioner is one. angle of bar is another. footrest of saw when detached from pole is another. considering a gas power extended pole saw is $450 this is a score.

A Workhorse
Based on reviews of other products, this MTD made saw is probably more durable and better made. It also has a longer pole than most. The trade-off is the extra weight. If you only have a few branches to cut, a medium build man can handle the job. But extensive trimming becomes a two man job. In addition to the weight, the other drawback is that there is no automatic chain tensioner. So keep your eye on the chain tension and oil level (be sure to purchase chain oil Oregon 54-026 Bar and Chain Lube, 1 Qt). Also, be sure to wear goggles as the sawdust sometimes falls back in your face. This is an excellent tool and has saved hundreds of dollars in tree trimming costs. I bought it with a decent quality 100 ft. 12/3 extension cord Southwire 02589SW Outdoor Extension Cord- 12/3 American Made SJTW Heavy Duty 3 Prong Extension Cord- Great for Commercial Use, Gardening, and Major Appliances ( 100 Foot- Yellow) and a cord reel Alert Stamping 7000WR Pro-Reel Cord Carrier (both are well made, but the handle for the cord reel is uncomfortable---wear gloves).

Handy chain saw for any regular citizen
Before I start, just want to warn you that the chainsaw does not come with chain and bar oil. The chainsaw needs oil before any operation so you better get some chain and bar oil before turning it on. They usually cost less than 10 bucks from any big box stores. I have had this saw for just over 3 months and I have used it 4 times total. I'm a stranger when it comes to chainsaw but the product itself was very easy to use. Well, let me take that back. The product is very easy to use if you understand the physics of leverage. When you are using it as a pole saw, don't try to use both hands around the trigger, you should always have one hand high above the trigger on the pole and act as a pivot point of the pole. This means you may not be able to reach as high but it will make sure you don't end up dropping the chainsaw or damaging something below. If you need to reach higher then you should find a ladder. The pole saw due to the angle of the saw blade requires very less amount of pivot to use, I found that for bigger branches I can just let apply a downward force on the pivot point of the pole and let the gravity do most of the job. The beauty of this pole saw and the ultimate reason I bough this one over others is that it has the ability to transform into a regular chainsaw. I used the chainsaw to cut down longer branches from olive tree and California pepper tree up to 5-6 inches in diameter without any problem. About oil leak, I have read reviews that some customers had this happened to them, I took some people's advise to store it upright, meaning the saw blade is sitting vertically to the ground and I have yet to experience oil leak. In order to have it sit vertically you need to have the pole saw in chain saw configuration.

I cut down a massive dead tree in my new home's backyard this past week. Yes, it can be a bit heavy, especially when you have it fully extended. What did you think though? It is a chainsaw, not a bag of feathers. Hold it as vertical as you can, lean it over onto the branch and let that weight and saw do the work. You'll be a little sore but this thing is amazing. Especially since you can take the pole off and use it with the handle for smaller stuff on the ground once you get the limbs down. WORD OF ADVICE (since I didn't read the manual- what real man does??)- put chain/bar oil in the thing as soon as you get it. The chain was oily but little did I know it didn't have any oil in the reservoir when I got it, took me a few branches to realize it. Does not come with the oil so get get yourself some while you wait on the shipping. GET THIS BAD BOY!
