Wow Garmin beats my new Prius wimpy navigation!! Love knowing what road I am on and what the speed limit is all the time!!

Used it for my road trip across different states with mountainous area. Very useful especially when we had bad signals on our mobile phones. Instead of using phone as your Google map, why not use it to Google some other useful information like restaurants, point of interest and to double check on the addresses. Speed limit and curves ahead ahead warning also another plus. Will also reflect when there is any nearby gas station and restaurant. GPS will also suggest if you need a short break from Long driving with a place with food, coffee and restroom. Will highly recommend this. Good investment for additional safety device in the road!

dont use it much (google maps gets more use) but when you are away from a network it comes in handy

Replaced older Garmin with this. It's great

This unit was bought to replace a Nuvi 50LM. I also have a Nuvi 2597LMT. The DriveSmart 51 LMT-S is an updated version of my Nuvi 2597LMT. The display is brighter and the CPU / operations of the GPS are faster. The builtin Wifi means you will not need to connect it to a computer to get updates. The disadvantage of the DriveSmart compared to the 2597 is that traffic information is not builtin. What this will mean`for user is that to get traffic, you have to use one of 2 options - 1. Use a smartphone and download the Garmin Smartlink, then you pair it with Bluetooth. This works, but it will be using your cell phone's dataplan to get traffic info 2. Spend additional money to get the Garmin GTM-60HD power cable / traffic receiver. This has the advantage of not needing your cell phone for traffic. Initial setup - Put your DriveSmart on either a wall power adapter or into a USB port on your computer. after a short period of time, you will be able to power it up, and then you can setup the Wifi on the Garmin. After this, Use Garmin Express to join this GPS to your Garmin account, and let it update it software and maps. You can import your other GPS' saved points of interest (POI) using Garmin Express. The Voice Command feature generally works pretty good, but it is not perfect. I find it acceptable.

It faster than previous models. Good voice quality. Iike that it warns me about speed cameras and to slow down for schools.

Would never know it was refurbished. I am replacing a much older Nuvi which I thought was pretty good. This unit is fabulous. First its 1 inch larger then my old unit (easy to see). Image is clear precise and touch screen works flawlessly. the best feature is the voice command. I can reprogram by just speaking to the unit. Hands free and easy to use. Shows much more information then my old unit, gas stations, food, RR crossings, sharp turns and can alert me if I am over speed limit. You will not be disappointed in this unit and the refurb price is great !

This replaced my old Garmin - the new technology is great. I downloaded the app that allows phone calls and text messages to read across the Garmin display, but deleted it after a few days. I realized I didn't want my text messages showing to everyone in the car, and the phone portion kept competing with my bluetooth headset. I am still able to use the Voice Command function so I can set any route/address without having to touch the Garmin - the voice command part works really well once you get the hang of using it. I also like that it displays which lanes you should be in on multi lane exits so you're prepared for the next turn. I purchased the traffic receiver cord - this shows "10 mins traffic delay for the next 2 miles" and shows a highlighted line letting you know how many more minutes before ir breaks up. Travel and traffic times have been very accurate. One instance where it planned the route and 10 mins into it our ETA changed to 45 mins later due to construction traffic - but in 4 months, that's the only hiccup I've had. Overall I'd definitely buy this again.

This is an excellent unit. Just to clarify an important point: It is actually refurbished by Garmin itself and comes in a Garmin box. So, the seller has nothing to do with with refurbishing. This is a member of the *DriveSmart* series which focuses on using apps on your phone to get more info into the unit. On the other hand, also available is the Garmin *DriveAssist* series version of the 51 LMT-S , which doesn't have all the extra techie toys, but has a *dashcam* built in.

Replaced a TomTom XXL 540-TM, which TomTom refuses to support any longer, with this excellent unit. It is so much better in every way than the TomTom. Some have complained about no printed manual. There is one on the device itself and another on the internet, so no problem. I’ve experienced one navigation glitch thus far but in general it works great. Finally, the voice command mode is a really nice feature. I use it a lot.
