Easy to build
Easy to build. Pay attention to the instructions. I messed up by using a wrong nail and it pushed through the wood. Pay attention and look at all the materials first before starting to assemble. it looks beautiful. It wasn't messy to get out of the box either, The wood came in great condition and the instructions to build was easy to follow. It took me less than 45 minutes to build by myself.

We bought two of these and so far we really like them. They definitely add the storage we needed for the living room and I really like the look as well. It took maybe an hour to put together the first one but the second one was even easier once we knew what we were doing. They seem like pretty solid bookcases as well.

Great bookcase
I was skeptical ordering these since some of the reviews were saying that they fall apart and that they are not sturdy. I’m very please with them. They look beautiful. If you follow the instruction and assemble them properly they come out nice and sturdy. The color is exactly as pictured. It took my husband 30 minutes to put them together. For those reviews that were saying they aren’t sturdy - you must have put them together wrong - mine are super sturdy. Some people also said that the shelf are bending, well if you put a hundred books on any bookcase shelf of course they will bend. I haven’t filled mine yet but I placed the heaviest of books at the bottom of the bookcase and so far so good. They arrived in one box, easy to move. Love them !

Good and sturdy bookcase for a good price
After reading some reviews of this Sauder unit I was a little leary but then I read reviews of other shelves that were comparible in price. I came right back to this one. I decided to order it and It arrived earlier than I was expecting. The box looked a little worn and I was worried about what the boards looked like. But surprisingly, the way they packaged it was pretty safe. None of the wood was scratched or ruined in any way. Some reviews said that you will need a large space to put it together so I put it together in my family room, even though the shelving unit was to go into a bedroom. I found after putting it all together, that I could have put it together in the bedroom it was intended for. I followed the instructions to a "t" and it was pretty simple. The one thing that I followed from a different review was to put some of the stirofoam (sorry I don't know how to spell that) under shelf "G" after unit has been turned over. This shelf will not touch the floor because the moulding on the top juts out farther than the rest. So, putting some of the foam under shelf "G" helps to keep the unit from splitting in half when gently hammering nails, connecting the backboard to the back of the shelving unit. The one thing that I may have done a little differently than the instructions is when you are fitting the two lower sides and the bottom of the unit together. I probably would have attached the two lower sides marked "D" and "C" and not put the bottom ("F). There is a "skirt" that is not marked but is considered "O" that attaches to shelf "G". Because I had put the bottom on already, as per the instructions, I had to almost blindly put the angled brackets and screws in to hold that skirt onto shelf "G". But it worked out anyway. Obviously, it can be done either way. Whether you put the bottom on first as it tells you to do or you work on the skirt "O" before putting the base of the unit on. If you choose to put the skirt on first, you just have to make sure that the 2 sides are straight so that you know where to center the skirt "O". You'll see what I'm saying when you read the instructions. Some people had issues with it splitting in half when turning it over. I did not have that problem. You just have to be careful as the back is not on and keeping it sturdier. Anyway, I put it together as per the instructions. No parts or screws or brackets were missing. This was easy to assemble and it is standing in the bedroom without being secured to the wall and is standing strong and holding everything that I put on each shelf. It's a bit deeper of a cherry wood color than the picture shows but I love it! It's gorgeous! For the cheaper price, I think it is a wonder set of shelves. Obviously, something more expensive with thicker backing would be sturdier. But this is sturdy enough for me and the use that it has been intended for, and not overly heavy. It's plenty tall and wider than the others I looked at, which is what attracted me to this unit in the first place and is better for me in the long run. I do recommend this bookcase to anybody. I really like it. Good job Sauder company! Thank you Amazon for another good buy!

Fantastic product
Precisely cut and drilled. Every part fit perfectly. Bought two units for dining room. Added 1x2 wood braces under each shelf toward back. Added metal L bracket to units in corners behind front trim so not seen. As you assemble, use a right angle square to constantly keep everything straight. After both units done, placed them beside each other and lined up front trim. Used clamps to squeeze them together in front. Drilled pilot holes top middle bottom one inch behind front trim so not seen. Used 1 1/4" screw with washer to fasten the units together. When finished, looks great. Including all extra support material, $300. Wow. ( FYI...here is quick method for adding braces. Use poplar or oak 1x2 wood which is actually 3/4" thick. Cut length same as braces that are supplied that slide onto front of each shelf. Measure 1 3/8 from back of each shelf and drill hole in center and one 4" from each side. Use drill bit same size as your wood screws and counter sink holes from top of shelf. Use screw 1 1/4" long deck screw with phillips head in grey color to match bookcase. When done you won't see screw heads on shelf. Turn shelf over and put wood brace on edge 3/4", center side to side and simply position it 1" from back of shelf. This will center it under holes you have drilled. Use clamp on each end of brace. Turn shelf over with brace clamped. Take drill bit half the thickness of screws and drill down from top through countersunk holes into support boards. You only want to drill 1/4" into brace to give screw a start. Take grey deck screw and drill down from top of shelf through into brace, in three holes. Remove clamp. Because the hole in shelf is same size as screw, this allows brace to pull up tight on its own. When putting brace on very top of unit cut the brace board the full width of inside measure, because that brace can be seen and it gives a finished look. For that one brace, I chose an oak board and sorted through all to find one that was grey and not red. Hope this helps for those wanting a heavy duty unit. The bookcase leans nicely backward against wall. I located wall studs and drilled through brace I added under bottom section and screwed units to wall. Looks built in.)

Beautiful bookcase!
Just received this yesterday, and my husband put it together in about 30-45 minutes. It came packaged very well, and my husband had no issues putting it together. That said, this bookcase is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The pictures on Amazon do it no justice, it looks SO much better in person. It is very heavy, sturdy, excellent quality, and the trim pieces that comes with it really create an incredibly elegant, expensive look to it. I have seen bookcases from high end retailers that don’t look near as nice as this one. One shelf is fixed and the others are adjustable. Nice, thick shelves too. Wow. I can’t say enough good things about this bookcase, it far exceeded my expectations for sure.

Don't know where you could find a better bookcase for this price. Does take an hour or so to assemble, but it really is pretty sturdy when you are done. Great color and they don't look cheap. I bought three for my office and they look great!
