Lightweight, fast transfers, good for backup while traveling.
I'm a photographer and I bought this drive before a 6 week trip to India. I knew that I'd need a backup drive and that I'd be generating a lot of data (photos, video). In the end, I didn't fill it up... I barely used 1TB, but it was good that I never felt limited in my shooting by storage options. This drive, like my other WD Passports, was simple to use.... just plug it in and it appears like any other USB thumb drive would, with no external power requirements, and it didn't take up much room in my camera backpack. While connected to my Surface, it was fast enough reading and writing that editing photos was not uncomfortably slow.

NoBrainer USB3 ext drive for a MacBook Pro
NoBrainer USB3 ext drive for a MacBook Pro. I DO NOT understand some other's issues formatting this drive for OS X/macOS. High Sierra, Sierra, El Cap, Yosemite - IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE... Goto Disk Utility/Partition and follow the prompts to format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). By default this will blow out the included useless WD Windows junkware on the drive. I set up 2 logical 1GB partitions, one for Time Machine, the other for Carbon Copy Cloner, both Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Cheese for the mouse, it truly gets no simpler than this...

Best option for a portable hard drive by far!
Western Digital Passport drives have always been my go-to for a compact, no-power-chord-needed, portable storage solution with a lot of space. And most importantly, they won't cost you a fortune! I must have about 10 of these drives laying around, in different colors, across the past four generations of product. None of them have failed, and the color options help you to easily organize your projects. Buy a cheap case to go along with it, and you're all set to go!

Great External Backup Drive!
This product is great! It comes with a lot of product support and has a great file transfer speed. PROS: Well packaged Comes with Software for PIN CODE Security Comes with Software for Automatic Backup Update Fast File Transfers Light Indicator (Sleep Mode, File transfer, OFF) CONS: The USB Cable is a bit Short Case is not drop resistant (but most external hard rives aren't)

Excellent for Time Machine
I bought this to use as my primary Time Machine backup for my Mac. First thing I did was reformat, then I ended up partitioning it down the middle, and taking one of the 1 TB partitions and breaking that up into two 500 GB volumes to use as local cloud storage for me and my wife. I connected the hard drive to my Netgear router and it was super simple to mount and setup the remaining 1 TB volume as my Time Machine location. Now, every time my Mac is connected to a power source, Time Machine backs up my machine automatically and I don't have to manually connect an external hard drive like I used to.

Great for a Xbox One External Hard Drvie
When plugged the Hard Drive into the Xbox, it quickly asked me to format it if was going to be used for game storage. I have used the Hard Drive for some time now and I can say that I have had no issues at all. I have downloaded a considerably large amount of games on the Hard Drive and nothing has gone wrong and speed is to be expected from a Hard Drive. Its not the speed of a SSD but better then the hard drive inside my Xbox that is full. If your are going to use it as a hard drive for a computer and your moving your hard drive a lot, then I can't answer if this is good for the purpose. But if your going to use it as a Xbox One HDD, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Great product ... with a minor limitation.
I tried other makes before being advised by a knowledgeable friend to forget about the others and just get a WD. Lo and behold. I plugged this beautiful baby into my phone which immediately recognized it (unlike the others) and asked if I wanted to configure it. I concurred and ... bingo. No instructions and computer connection needed. My only complaint is that it does not appear to have a safe means of ejecting it after use. I called WD about this and was informed that the discrepancy came about because the unit wasn't really designed for use on anything but a computer and that to safely eject I should shut off the phone before disconnecting. No biggie. Easy peasy. It's been a love affair from the time i plugged it into my SG S8 and saw that it was a match made in heaven. It's even more fun to plug them both into my laptop and start transferring and copying files from one to another. So cool.

A Great Series of Drives
I find the design of the WD Passport to be well done. While it's basically a rectangle, all of the models are the same width, This leads to ease of stacking. I'm currently looking at approx. 20 in various storage sizes. They also come in a variety of colours, which makes organizing your data by types easy (I gave up on that idea because of buying the cheapest colours on sale). The downside is that the drive itself is integrated into the control card. In other words, if the USB connection fails, then you can't just pop the drive out of the enclosure and and put it in another box. While I have yet to face this issue, I can see it become a problem after repeated use as the USB connector develops "wiggle room".

Western Digital products are great!
I bought two of these WD Passports. One was to replace my old WD 500 Gig external hard drive. The other I bought to attach to my Playstation 4 for external storage. No instructions were included in the box so had to go to website to download the software to install and configure. My only complaint. The second one for my Playstation 4 was even easier to connect and format. I can now not have to delete old games due to storage needs! Highly recommend!

XBox One S is now complete.
Really didn't think I'd need additional storage but yeah, that day arrived. After deleting a few games I knew I had a problem. Didn't know the cure would be this simply or cheap. Plugged it in and within minutes I was transfering games from the internal drive over to this one. I've got tons of room now and couldn't be happier!
