I bought four of these (quadruplets) for my four disk NAS unit. Everything about them makes them a perfect drive. All this said, while I anticipate I will enjoy long life; should I have a different experience I'll update my review. I want to mention these are nearly silent.

+1 - Item arrived on time, and not damaged +1 - Item is as described +3 - 6TB of storage for under $250, NAS rated, and WD reliability Thoughts: This is not my first WD NAS drive I've bought. I've come to appreciate the reliability of WD, as I've only 1 in 20 fail me over time. Luckily I have a RAID and backups, and I have SMART notifications that identified the failing drive before it failed. While it is cheap, always wish it was cheaper :)

The RED Drives come in 5200RPM and 7200RPM (PRO). The 6T PRO is further available with part number 6002 and 6003. The 6003 version is 25 to 30% faster (QNAP 8 drive Raid6). Great drive, quiet, runs 42 Deg C during Raid rebuilding. Great drive and delivered in only a few days (to Thailand).

I bought a Synology DiskStation 1-Bay Diskless Private Cloud NAS (DS115J), Western Digital Red Pro 2TB NAS Internal Hard Drive, and a Bose SoundTouch 20 Series III Wireless Speaker to set up sound in our kitchen. It was easy to install the hard drive in the NAS and install it on my wireless router. I was then able to copy all my music and playlists to the NAS and set up the Bose. No problems. Everything is working fine and I am happy with all three purchases.

Some of the reviews of this drive stated that it was old. Mine said it was made in December of 2019, which as of this writing means it was made last month. This worked just fine for me installed, and I don't really care about speeds as long as it saturates a gigabit transfer. Doesn't make any noticeable noise, has worked just fine for a few weeks. Lots of capacity for the money.

I have not had to use my hot spare yet. They perform very well and stay cool. RAID is nice. It is faster than using a single HDD. That does not mean it is actually fast. It is must faster than one disk ... but it isn't really FAST-FAST like an M.2 or PCI-E SSD.

Until 4tb SSD's are cheap you still need spinning platter drives. This one is fast, quiet, and reliable. I have an 8tb drive from another manufacturer that makes annoying, loud clanking noises when the heads are parking. I have never heard this drive make even the slightest sound that was offensive like that. For me this is a big deal.

First things first. This 2TB Red Pro drive is CMR (not SMR) technology, which is a relief. In any event, I installed these drives (2 of them) in my quite old, Synology DS211 NAS and thus far have had no issues at all. Pretty happy with them. I haven't done any performance testing and this is just an occasional use device, largely for archival storage. I did upgrade to Synology DSM 6.2, no problems there either. All the drive features seem to work including sleep mode and S.M.A.R.T and other drive management technologies. I'm mostly happy these drives were not SMR, that was my biggest concern. As far as noise, when these drives are spinning they are pretty darn quiet... literally can't hear them at less than 3 feet from my head. They do make some interesting noises when going into sleep/wake mode however.. very bizarre sounds. Vibration seems non-existent as well. I did have some older WD drives in this NAS for almost 8 years and they seemed to occasionally have some harmonics, these new Red Pro 2TB drives don't seem to have that issue at all. Good luck!

I think these are one of the best Hard Drives I have used in the area of SATA and eSATA. They work exactly as advertised and they are fast enough for the application that I am using and easy to install and setup. The fact that they have 5 years warranty is worth getting them. I register them all at WD website and they all have now 5 years warranty. Perfect for setting up as RAID 0, 1, 5 and/or 10 without any problem. Highly recommend them.

I have been using Western Digital drives for many years. This is an upgrade from their standard Red drives. The PRO version extends their warranty to 5 years. I have done warranty replacements many times over the years and WD has an excellent process. NAS (network attached storage) units can sometimes have higher drive failures if the drives are not built to a higher standard to allow for more frequent reads and writes. These units deliver quality performance!
