This is a great invention to automate and schedule things with a physical switch and that can’t be controlled by a smart plug. It’s a little finicky and a bit more bulky than ideal, but I personally don’t know how it could be designed much better given the constraints of the battery size that lasts around 2 years they say and what this thing does. Put it on our coffee maker and it works perfectly. The 3M sticky pad worked to be stuck and readjusted multiple times which was nice (didn’t know if it was a one and done type adhesice but seems like you can readjust and get multiple uses, plus it comes with a second. It uses low voltage Bluetooth which I was surprised I could easily connect to and use anywhere throughout our house (30-40 ft away). Also, if you set a schedule for the switch, that’s stored in the switch and the Bluetooth device doesn’t need to be around for the switch to automatically be triggered. Since the Bluetooth connection worked well for me, didn’t need the WiFi hub, but I believe you need this if you want to connect to Alex or IFTTT. The app isnt the most beautiful and intuitive one I’ve seen, but it does the job and seems to be stable, so I’m not going to complain too much. Good product given the niche need and would definitely recommend to others.

No, you don't have to be a nerd to use this. Just read the directions, check the website or do some googling if you can't understand what's going on. I promise it's not difficult. Only took me about 5 minutes to get everything set up. Bought this along with a hub (which conveniently turns my TV off at night when I'm too comfy [lazy] to reach for the remote) a few months ago and have really grown to enjoy it. While the push-y mechanism isn't strong enough to press the entry button on my condo's intercom as originally planned, I've found another great use. It's now stuck to the front of my coffee pot and allows me to automate my morning. Or, as is so often the case, allows me to start the coffee as I'm walking the dog. Liked it so much that I bought a second SwitchBot when they were on sale a couple weeks ago. Who knows what I'll do with the spare? Will try to remember to update this review when it gets put to use. Bottom line: Buy it if you want to do something nerdy or need to help someone differently-abled. There are tons upon tons of use cases. Works well with Alexa, Google Home, iOS, Android, IFTTT. Don't want to use it via the internet or a smart speaker? It also works fine via bluetooth and without a hub.

Work's quite well for automating my AC units. The adhesive is very strong and stuck well. I'm even able to trigger it from my computer running Linux, although after setting a password on the SwitchBot, it was quite difficult to get that working again (it involved Bluetooth packet capturing on my phone and then searching through the logs in Wireshark). Not an issue most people will run into though.

I have 2 Switch bots, and I am in love with them. I have one connected to my printer to turn on/off and the other is connected to my tv to do the same as well. Currently, I don't have the hub in order to use voice control with my Amazon Alexa device so I can't use voice control, but I plan on buying the hub soon. The app is easy to use and setup is very simple just turn on Bluetooth on your phone, pull out the tab on the switch bot and boom it connects. You can rename your switches so it's easier to figure out what device you need to turn on/off. I plan on purchasing more of these switches. Also, customer service was completely excellent when I contacted them about getting the wrong color they sent me a replacement. Side note: battery is replaceable on the switch box, so you don't have to worry about buying more switches.

NEW REVIEW: I was able to make the device work properly (i.e. work with timers w/o the hub) after I replaced the battery. The device I received had a battery that was very low. The app did does not show you the battery level unless you go into the settings menu and then tap on firmware and battery and since the device was new I didn't think I needed to check it. While the original battery was low, the device still worked and would respond to manual commands, however after it was left for a day or so the low battery would cause it to reboot itself and this deleted all the timers. Once I replaced the battery (CR2) the device became much more reliable. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I tried hooking this up with out the Hub using just the timer function to activate a switch. It doesn't work. I was able to connect the switchbot to my phone and set up timers on the device. I set a practice timer and watched it work but when I left the switchbot alone for several hours it ignored all the other timers that I had set. I visited the company website and found that others had posted on their board reporting the same problem. The company is aware of the issue (they responded to the post), but offered no solution. I can't speak to how well it works with the hub but if you plan to use it without the hub then don't bother buying it.

This is literally exactly what I was looking for, but better! I wanted something that would automatically press the button to unlock the downstairs door from my phone (so that I wouldn't have to sprint like a madman to the other end of the house to hit it) and this does the trick exactly. Not only can I buzz open the downstairs door from inside, but ALSO from outside, eliminating the need to mess with keys. This device is genius. Pure genius.

I normally don't write reviews, but I want to support Switchbot as they have a nice product and support. I have a total of 2 switchbots (and one switchbot hub), and these little things are great. I use one for the AC and another for the computer, both always commanded by Alexa (you need the switchbot hub for that btw), and so far in my 3 months of usage they haven't had a single glitch. They did a great job in designing these little bots as looks like the battery will last forever (still basically 100%), the adhesive is very good it won't un-stick itself, and it has a good push/pull force. I use this multiple times a day with Alexa (again, you'll need the switchbot hub for that) and it always worked, which means they are keeping their API service up as well. Finally, they have a very quick support, asked a question one day and had a reply on the other, very helpful, and looks like they are including new features in their mobile apps. I recommend these things for your "non-smart" switches, they are quite ingenious little devices!
