This is proof that you don't need to spend an arm and a leg to get a great quality gimbal. This does just about everything I need it to do and some things I didn't know I even needed! I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and the app is working flawlessly. I read a lot of the reviews about the android app not working, but that just isn't the case for me. Maybe they have done an app update since then. I would recommend upgrading the latest version, just in case. If there is one feature I wish it did have, that would be motorized rotation via a joystick on the handle. That would have made this the perfect gimbal, especially for the price. I'm happy all the same. Oh, and just an FYI, really nice packaging and a really solid, sturdy feeling product. I know there is plastic in there, but it doesn't feel flimsy whatsoever.

We use it for social media and portfolio marketing pieces for our construction projects. We just started using it and I can say that it comes out of the box ready to work. Except that the instruction booklet isn't really that helpful. Usually I read the instructions (skim them) and do the set-up and then I can intuitively figure out how something works. We spent a day being frustrated and trying to get it to pan a certain way and then we came inside and sat down and googled for some videos. Watched the two official videos and another one from a man in Dubai who took us through the features. That 25 minutes or so of video helped us immeasurably. The next day we took it out to our still photo shoot for a completed project and followed our pro photographer around with the Smooth 4 and got action shots. Couple little operator-error hiccups but within 10 minutes we were really feeling like a couple of pros. Battery outlasts the phone. The app is good enough for us DIY marketing types who aren't going to be adjusting the finer points of exposure or filming a rom-com. Before purchasing I watched many online reviews that included shots of video outputs and tested the smooth 4 in different situations like running, time lapse, action, following, etc. It wasn't perfect in all of those, and one reviewer even chose a more expensive option over the Smooth 4. But I felt this was the right mix for what we are doing, interviewing people, catching construction work, filming b-roll, adding some artistic flair to our work, and capturing our finished work in place. "Upping our game" so to speak. For $140 or less it makes a huge difference. It will help us provide quality content for those assignments without the budget to hire a pro.

This product is really easy to use especially for new and aspiring mobile filmmakers. Works great with my iPhone 8+ and super comfortable in my hand while holding it. The included tripod is excellent to help double as an extra place to hold the gimbal. ZY Play app is also really convenient to make your videos even better! The staff is also very helpful in answering all of my questions regarding this product. I also looked into other gimbals when searching for a new one (ie EVO or DJI etc.), but this one definitely caught my eye. The reason I chose this one over the others is that it is the only gimbal on the market so far that offers a focus pull and zoom capability as well as buttons that are so easily accessible instead of needing to touch your phone and possibly damaging the motors of the gimbal. Honestly, no complaints! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to upgrade their mobile filmmaking!

Have only had the smooth 4 for a couple of days, but the initial results are: very easy to use, intuitive User Interface, lots of features, and works with big iPhone (8 plus with Moment case--a little counterweight required--:-)) Very innovative!

I have an iPhone 7 plus; set up was fast and easy. The smooth 4 has a quick start guide for the RTFM impaired among us. And, there are also a couple of videos on youtube that will walk you through all the buttons and features. I was up and running within a few minutes. Even though i have a fairly form fitting Otterbox cover and could mount the iPhone with it on, I found the phone fit more snuggly and with better balance without a 'case'. The manual also gives you scan codes to download the app and the phone paired with the Smooth 4 with no problems. My first videos were nice and smooth. Two features that make this a stand out are: the ability to zoom and focus with the side dial which does not interfere with the phone's touch screen focus/exposure point AND the follow function (draw a box around your 'target' and the gimbal will follow the target smoothly). This is my second Zhiyun; I also have the Zhiyun Crane Plus that i use on my Fuji XT20. I can already tell, that I'll be using the Smooth 4 as my grab and go gimbal for spur of the moment filming! I have not even begun to experiment with the panorama, program pans, time lapse features the gimbal will support. The Zhiyun Smooth 4 was well worth the wait!

After reviewing tons of Youtube reviews and tutorials of the Zhiyun Smooth 4, I decided to get one for myself when the price dropped to below $100. Thanks to all the vbloggers and the easy-to-follow instruction booklet that comes with the gimbal, I was able to set it up quickly upon receiving it. Downloaded the app and tested out all the functions, and all of them performed well - the negative reviews seem to be related mainly with Android phones, to the extent that the manufacturer puts in an explanation sheet in the package; but for iOS I don't have any problem. The build quality is very good, and the gimbal feels comfortable in my hands. I especially like the zoom dial, which I do not see on other gimbal models. A couple of notes: 1) to balance my iPhone 8 Plus, I have to remove all the protective gears (Otter Commuter), and use the "naked" phone only; 2) it is better to put on the mini tripod even when handheld, because the small extension provides a more balanced holding experience and some extended reach. Overall I love my new Smooth 4, and will bring it out for lots of personal fun down the road.

Since, this is my first gimbal, I'm still playing with it, trying to get used to it, been only using it for a day. But man, everything about the Smooth 4 is just fantastic. It's easy to use, for beginners like myself, because of the control panel. The handwheel (very helpful) on the side can be use with zoom or focus. I don't have any bad thing(s) to say about this gimbal. However, my biggest concern is the app itself, since I'm an android user (LG G4). I'm not sure if the android app works well for other android users but hopefully they can fix the bug(s).

I had read a lot of bad review for this gimbal, but a lot of the negativity was around the app - particularly android. I have an android. While this gimbal does function OK on it's own for basic stabilization and smoothness, it really comes alive if you use Filmic Pro. I didn't even try the stock app because it was rated so poorly. Filmic Pro really lets you utilize all the features and has a ton more video settings. So make sure you plan on spending an extra $15 for the Filmic Pro app if you are going to buy this Gimbal. Zhiyun seems to actually have a partnership with them now, and they are very responsive to fixing bugs and making updates. The hardware gimbal itself feels very high quality. It's a little heavy, which I think is actually a good thing. There's a lot of metal. It feels very strong. I'm really impressed with it. Comes with a decent case as well.

I made this INITIAL review to give a personal account on my recently-purchased Zhiyun Smooth 4 gimbal (BLACK) paired with the iPhone XS Max. I am sure some of you are wondering how it fares with a big phone like that. I have heard in some forums/groups that there are some people experiencing some phone balancing issues especially when paired with the iPhone XS Max. I've been using the Gimbal for 3 days now with my iPhone XS Max with an ultra-lightweight crystal case from RANVOO and so far I have not encountered that mentioned issue. (hoping not to have that). What I think is that perhaps the battery must be strong enough as there are motors that are constantly in check and keeping the horizontal balance of the iPhone XS Max (it may or may not be the case). Nevertheless, I will be observing mine and post away here if it happens (again, I'm really hoping not to encounter that!). Anyway, I am excited with the array of controls offered in this gimbal, which is MUCH more than DJI Osmo Mobile 2 -- (BOTH hardware and software-wise). One notable thing that separates it from the competition is the exclusive Zoom/Focus dial control on the left side. Paired with the ZY app, this is perfect for aspiring mobile filmmakers and adds another dimension of control not offered anywhere else. I would say the app is 99+% usable with just a few trivial bugs that I am sure the Zhiyun app devs will address on a future app version update soon. - - - - - - PHOTOS: 1) Zhiyun Smooth 4 Black with mounted iPhone XS Max (with ultra-lightweight iPhone crystal clear case) turned on showing full horizontal balancing. 2) Standby mode 3) Dial for extending the holder for to help to counterbalance big phones like the XS Max 4) Close up shot of the XS Max and case, and how it adheres to the holder grip 5) Sample 3x3 Panorama automatically made using Zhiyun's accompanying ZY app - - - - - - MATERIAL QUALITY (5 stars): Material quality is top-notch and I like the matte mapped texture of the gimbal. The tripod fixture is lightweight with rubber-pad tips for better grip on smooth surfaces. One thing I wish it had is a rubber-like texture on the handle part for superior grip to prevent slipping (i.e. similar to the one on inner sides of the phone holder clamps). BATTERY (5 stars): Battery life is great and rated at 12 hours and should be more than enough for a whole day's shoot. I will post here again if it does not meet this declaration. DURABILITY (5 stars): Pretty sturdy and appears to be well worth the money. PACKAGING (5 stars): Even the packaging is good enough. OVERALL (5 stars): I am generally impressed so far with the Zhiyun Smooth 4 gimbal. If you do not have the time to compare gimbals, this is well worth your money and will not break an arm and a leg. And if there is a need for another gimbal for a project, I would not have second thoughts and get another one like this. TIPS: 1) The gimbal should be balanced well in power off status before use 2) DO NOT turn on the gimbal without manually balancing the phone 3) For bigger-sized phones like the iPhone XS Max, there is a dial at the back where you can extend and this helps in the proper balancing 4) Try to AVOID rough-sized particles like sand to get inside the crevices as it can interfere with the effectivity of the servomotor/s.

This is crazy amazing for a gimbal. I wasn’t going to get another gimbal since I had to return one before and didn’t like how it’s not easy to control. Then weeks later I saw 4-5 reviews on YouTube for smooth 4 and I just had to get it. I’m glad I did because it’s a great gimbal. It connects to my iPhone X quick and without issues. Make sure to update firmware as soon as you get it. Updating firmware wasn’t easy with Mac but was able to do so. Thanks again to YouTube lol. I really enjoy this gimbal. Love the motion time lapse but favourite is vertigo. I still need to practice to get used to using a gimbal since I’m an amateur still but I believe this will help me to get used to much faster. I swear the smooth 4 gimbal is the best I’ve seen. Zhiyun has up their game and it might be a while before another company can compete with this without being expensive at the least. I have to set my GoPro aside and start recording on my phone only because of this. I’m really happy with it.
