Controller can be used for AC heating elements and incandescent lights.

I purchased this unit to control the temperature of a round bottom flask in a heating mantle, after reading the product description that states it is "widely used for controlling heating elements." Heating mantles often have built-in controllers, but when they don't a controller can run into the hundreds of dollars to perform the same function (triac AC power control, same as a wall dimmer switch). It is not clear from the Low-Medium-High markings in the variable mode that it is continuously variable. As the unit was received it only adjusted down to about half power instead of fully off (easily seen when powering an incandescent lamp). Being an electrical engineer, I planned to modify the circuit to do that, but I didn't need to because it already includes a tiny trimmer potentiometer on the back side of the circuit board (only seen as a hole that receives a plastic trimmer for adjusting). Of course this violates the standard warning that only a certified technician is qualified to work on it. I think it would be beneficial to offer a different version of this same controller that isn't intended for fans but only heaters and lamps that adjusts all the way down to full off.

Used on my IPOWER 6" DUCT FAN!! SUPERB!!

Works great for my 6" inline duct fan!! I use a ipower 6" duct fan in my grow tent and it was super white noise loud!! This control slowed it way down and still offered significant airflow!! EXTREMELY HAPPY ABOUT THIS CONTROL.. I read lots of reviews that said it doesn't work but it does... Flip the switch to VAR.. and it works great!! Cuts the noise in half!!!

Great value. Does the job. I use this to limit the noise of a high-velocity air circulator fan that I keep in my outdoor seating area. Contrary to the description, what this product truly is, however, is a woodworking router speed controller. That's a plus or a fan application, given that it is marked as having a 15-amp capacity. It takes a pretty big fan to get up to 15 amps. The three-position switch was a bonus (ON-OFF-VARIABLE).

A good product at a low price.

This speed control works very will with my inline duct fan. It appears to be the same speed control Harbor Freight sells as a router speed control, but this one is at a lower price. I would recommend this speed control over some of the others available as it is capable of handling a 15 amp load if it is needed.

Works to achieve perfect fan speeds!

Must have appliance for strong or loud fan motors! Turn down the speed until it suits your needs. For small wattage fans, have to go to 3/4 full and find the hairline range for your taste, but its there and stays there at the desired speed as long as you don't change the setting by bumping it. Just reset it again. Haven't used it on more powerful fans, but suspect it has a larger range the higher the wattage. Solution to my strong and loud 7" fan is solved!

So far so good. Remember, not for soft start or brushless motors.

WOrking great as intended. Using it as speed control for sanding and grinding and shaping fiberglass and composite materials...boat hull jobs etc with my grinder.
