Show mode is good
So far it's okay. The dock or HD8 keeps making a "clicking/tapping" sound every now and then. Not sure what it's doing. Otherwise it works good and still getting used to it. Price is good for what you are getting. Wish the sound was a little better. The Dot sounds better for sure. We use it more for on our kitchen counter to see weather, cameras, timer, etc. Works great for that.

It works
Can't say a lot except to say this works and I know have replaced my old clock radio with the combination of the charging dock and the Fire HD8. It's not perfect as the dock and HD 8 cradle need a physical indicator that you are lining up the charging pins. But, that's not a deal killer as I just have to take a second to make sure that I've hit the sweet spot so the charging station, the contacts match-up and the always on feature works. FYI for anyone with similar thoughts of using this as an alarm clock, you will need to turn down the brightness as the timed dimmer is insufficient...well for me anyway. I manually dialed it down a bit and it now works very well, allowing me to see the time and the alarm I've set and still not be too bright in the bedroom.

Show Mode dock makes a FireTV Tablet into a Google Home Hub and Amazon Show Killer
I was in the market for a Google Home Hub or an Amazon Show. But after watching several YT reviews, both devices seemed very limited in what they can do. So I changed my mind. Then I come across this FireTV Tablet dock that transforms an ordinary Fire HD 8 tablet into an Amazon Show for significantly less money. Best of all, it is a full Fire OS tablet capable of running Netflix natively without a browser. I had an extra MicroSD 128GB memory card from my old Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet that runs only KitKat 4.4, and moved it over to the Fire HD 8 and reformatted it. Now my Fire HD 8 tablet has the same capabilities of the Amazon Show PLUS the full capabilities of a full android tablet. That is something not available on the Amazon Show or Google Home Hub. And it was cheaper !!! and it is portable !! just lift it off the dock when I need it in my hands.

Works as expected.
Amazon contacted me about my 2 star review. I actually wasn't reviewing the tablet itself but voicing my concern about the missing display mirroring feature. They asked me several questions, were extremely friendly and helpful and said they would take note of my complaint and send it on to the developers. That is all I wanted....for someone to care about our (and others) needs. I actually love my kindle/s. My husband and I have used them for years and recently gifted ourselves with the new 10 inch with show dock. For average home use, with plenty of internet, the display mirroring is not important, however, we are retired and travel in an RV and for us it it essential. Some campgrounds have WiFi, some have weak or limited WiFi, and many have no WiFi. Our solution is to download movies and tv shows, while we shop or eat lunch, to watch together later by mirroring to our TV. Thankfully we still have a couple older (5th generation) Fire tablets with the mirroring feature. Our biggest concern is what happens when the old ones no longer work? Amazon is now aware of our concern and hopefully will bring this important feature back on future Fire tablets.

show mode rocks
I love my show mode. I originally got a pair, so I was able to video chat with my 80 year old Mother while we were on vacation, it worked very nicely, once I spent many phone conversations with tech support (brand new, still unknown issues, but totally got it), I had to get a external speaker, so my Mom could hear us. We are back from vacation and I use my show mode on a regular basis, I can start playing music than just pick up the kindle and carry it where I am, with out a break in my listening pleasure. I like being able to SEE the recipe that I am using, the only issue I came across, is that if the screen goes black, the recipe is gone too, so I have to do a search for it again.

In some ways, better than an Echo Show
I don't have a lot to say about it. It was a black Friday impulse buy. I now have more Echo's than I have rooms in my house. In my opinion, the Echo show is missing something very important - the ability to control your devices on the touch screen. The Fire HD8 with the dock sort of solves that problem. When it's in the dock, it's just like an Echo Show, but with a terrible little speaker. What makes it better that a Show despite the poor speaker, is that you can use a voice command to launch apps. Even though the Fire app store is limited, there are still a few apps that I use such as Sonos (my whole house audio system), and Amcrest (the app to view all of my security cameras). I can say "alexa, Launch Amcrest" and it will launch the Amcrest app and show me all of my cameras at two houses. The dock has a strong magnet that centers that Tablet in the dock and securely holds it in place. I don't think it's an inductive charger, it looks like it uses two contact pins for charging. For the price, I'd highly recommend this combination. I don't use it as a tablet, I much prefer my iPad. But my iPad was $1000. So for a little over $50 that I paid for this combo, it's a steal. I also have an Echo Spot. It's a beautiful little device, but it's not much more useful than a Dot. The Fire HD8 with the charging stand is awesome. If you plan to listen to music, then you'll need to buy speakers for it.

Needs work but has potential
This is a handsome docking station and is aesthetically a lot more pleasing than just using a normal tablet stand. I feel like it's a bit overpriced for what it is though. It has some issues such as it not being very child or pet friendly. It wouldn't take much to knock the case out of the dock since there isn't anything locking it in. I also felt they should have made this work for both the 8 and the 10. If you can't just get an 8 tray and use it with the 10 dock, then I would give it 2 stars. Show Mode needs work and I don't feel like they tested it much. I have my display speed on Fast and clock on for when it's inactive, but it just sits there on the same photo endlessly and doesn't change the screen unless I ask it something, and I've only gotten the clock to come up twice. The rest of the time I have to exit out of Show Mode eventually and just let the lock/home screens turn it off after a minute. Hopefully they will do an update soon and fix this problem. They also need to put In some kind of sleep mode (Alexa, sleep) so you can shut it down without the clock being on when it's inactive. I do like that it speaks some Klingon though! :P That's the Trekie in me. How about some Vulcan too! Update: I’ve had it for a couple of months and I’m upgrading it from a 3 to a 5. My orginal issues were with my fire 10. Either it has a hardware issue or the show mode download was faulty. Once I switched to my other fire 10, all my problems disappeared. It actually works better with my pets than a normal tablet stand. They tend to leave this stand alone. I still think it’s a bit overpriced though, but all in all I’m happy with the purchase.

Nice, very convenient to bedside table!
the dock is awesome; my kindle appears to be charging better than before and the charge seems to be lasting longer, as well. I love that I've been able to get rid of my alarm clock complete, as having my dock next to the bed allows me to just set an alarm, play soothing music, anything I need to get a good night's sleep and get up on time. My only recommendation is to make some upgrades to the Alexa program itself. I find it hilarious that Alexa always displays "Good Morning!" regardless of what time of day it is. LOL.

Pretty slick
This is like a combination of a protective case and a charging dock. I bought it to replace a venerable Samsung 10 tablet (first gen) that had a dock and was used for nothing but showing Netflix to my parrot. Yes you read that correctly, my parrot watches children's shows by day and Disney musicals by night. He is a green-wing macaw, and if he is in the least dissatisfied with any small part of his life he will sing you the song of his people at about 140 db. I'm not exaggerating. He has an outdoor cage, but it gets too cold in the winter for him to go outside every day. So for his stimulation he watches educational children's shows. The upside to this is that his vocab has increased immensely and he can sing along with about 30 different musicals. Anyways. This was exactly what I needed. I tried the echo show, but it turns out that the show doesn't do apps like hulu or netflix. It has a screen, and is an alexa device, and has more processing power than an amazon fire stick for tvs which allow you to ... use apps and watch hulu or netflix. This pointless product stratification meant that I had to buy an amazon fire hd tablet, and a dock, which is apparently far more capable than the show despite costing $100 less.

Fixes the Fire's biggest flaw
My kids have used Kindle Fires for a few years now, the ones that came with the two-year warranties. They've been good except for one major issue. THE USB PORT DIES. Seriously, I think we've had Amazon replace them about 8 times. Each time, it's a refurb and the USB port starts to wiggle and then dies within a few weeks of receiving it. It's incredibly frustrating. This time, when buying a new Fire HD8, I noticed this new Show Mode charging doc was available and decided to give it a shot. It's nothing fancy, it wraps the Kindle in a hard plastic case, but it solves the Fire's biggest problem. No more plugging and unplugging the USB port. Once the case is plugged into the tablet you don't ever need to unplug it. The tablet charges just by setting it down onto the charging dock. Magnets help make sure it lines up correctly when set down. It works great, and there's no more fear of wearing out the USB charging port. This is the best accessory you can buy for the Fire HD8, well worth it as it will likely extend the life of the tablet by several years.
