I own 3- Brothers 770 and the screens are horrible. I was so glad they came out with one with a colored screen and it has so many great upgrades. I got it for a great price of $443 Love it so much better than my 770s.

Bought this to replace an older but far more costly machine that expired. Happy with it so far and not hard for me as I had used touch screen etc. Does the job for me! Struggled with the upper threading, specifically the auto threading... One in 10 attempts worked, frustrating to say the least! Yes, the manual is good but I was missing was the guide right above the needle, not just a hook, you need to pull left to get into the channel. You tube Vince Arcuri has numerous videos about this machine , addresses many functions in detail, simplifies what seems complicated.

I was looking for an in home hobby machine that was easy set up and easy to use. This machine has met all my expectations. I do wish I would had bought one that embroidered bigger than a 5x7. I'm afraid I will be ready to upgrade sooner than what I thought I would. I have purchased a few designs and transferred them from computer to thumb drive to my machine, and the simplicity of that is amazing. This was truly the best starter machine for me and economically perfect to make sure that I would enjoy a new hobby. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!!

I hadn't done much machine embroidery when I got this as a gift, and I find it's relatively easy to use even though I'm almost an idiot when to comes to software and transferring embroidery designs. Read the instructions manual and go at it. Leave the presser foot up to thread the machine or let it self-thread; that's the trickiest part, and it's a piece of cake. Online videos are available if you get stuck on something, but even a beginner shouldn't have too much difficulty once the basic set-up is completed. It sews beautifully (and I don't even understand how to adjust the upper tension yet, so that's quite a compliment). I've been surprised at how much I've done in a month, how much I actually can do and how great embroidery designs come out. Yeah, Brother!! Even on the Sunday of the NFL/AFL championship games this year, the conversation was a lot about what great products Brother makes. This is a winner!!! No time out, and no "Game's over."

I am new to embroidery and have found this machine very easy to use and SO much fun! I was intimidated at first. When it arrived, I let it sit in the box for a few days. Then recycling day arrived so I opened the box and set up the machine, which took five minutes. I stared at it a few more days and finally decided to bite the bullet and was joyously surprised at how very easy it is to use. Even a total novice like me could use it pretty much immediately. Now I'm excited about what is to come and learning more. I make memory bears for hospice families and it is so nice to be able to embroider the deceased person's name on the bear and add a symbol of something meaningful to them. So much more personal and so much fun. I wish I'd bought this sooner.

love this machine!

The Brother PE800 is a big upgrade from the Brother PE770. I'm a beginner at embroidery, and after a lot of research on You Tube, blogs, and forums, I am a very happy owner of this Brother PE800. I have used the PE770, a very good machine, but very hard to see the images on the b&w screen. The color screen on the PE800 is very clear and easy to use, allowing you to actually see what you are embroidering. I have a lot more to learn about the machine, but will share some of the features I have found I love. The PE800 allows you to add and edit multiple designs and fonts on screen, place letters in an arc and on 2 lines, drag and drop embroidery patterns, and move and position your pattern with the touch of your finger. The PE800 has a built in color palette that allows you to change individual thread colors on screen. The workspace and around the needle is super illuminated with 2 bright LED lights. The bobbin uses 90 weight bobbin thread; I ordered a big box of pre wound bobbins and much prefer to use them than winding my own. Use good quality upper thread, correct weight of bobbin thread, stabilize your material correctly, and you should have a really good time using this machine. Sit down with your manual and go through it step by step. It's fun and there are so many possibilities with the choices of patterns out there. The PE800 has the USB flash drive port, making it easy to put any purchased embroidery patterns on the machine to embroider. The PE770 and PE800 both take the same hoops. Big plus for me because I had all the hoops for the PE770.

EDIT; 05/11/19 I HAVE LEARNED! So, reading the manual will help greatly in improving the nit picks I had in my review below. You CAN change bobbins in between colors (you have to detach your hoop, and not restart anything, just hit the arrow button then the 'needle' button to move the needle to a safe position before changing things). This is also the standby phase that I was looking for. Bonuses I have found- if a miss-threading occurs (a knot, or the fabric slips while embroidering- happened more than once) you do NOT need to start over, there is a series of buttons- that you wouldn't know actually do this- that rewind or fast forward the stick numbers (in increments of 1, 10, and 100 at a time). Luckily, you don't need to be exact, the machine's cross hairs backtrack with the buttons, so you'll know when you're back where the incident happened. Would still like to mention two nit picks; 1) wish I could get a bigger touch screen, or a means to attach one without loosing the SINGLE usb port, the internal memory of the machine is only 6 to 12 patterns at a time. 2) Even changing the design's multi-colors to a single color won't change timings- if you just want one color on all the phases you still have to progress the machine as if you has multiple colors (even changing them in the machine doesn't change this fact). ALSO, don't use metal bobbins, the machine will tell you when your bobbin needs changing during a pattern, but only on a plastic bobbin. A metal bobbin (I assume) cannot be properly scanned by the machine, so it will continue to embroider without thread in the bobbin, and will eventually stop in a knot. I'm leaving my older review bellow, unaltered. Pe800 owner; bought to assist in embroidery for a baby quilt I'm doing for a best friend. Did my research, with my lifestyle, and the amount of embroidery I plan on doing, this machine was best for my needs. I did buy the extra stabilizers and hoops, which have come in handy (also embroidery scissors have been a GodSend!; would also recommend buying extra bobbins). As someone who has only done this by hand before, some of the manual how-to settings are confusing at first (my first Brother machine), and playing around with the settings takes some getting used to. Nit-pic 1) Didn't know the bobbin couldn't be changed while the pattern was being preformed (try to replace it = starting over), nit pic 2) can't figure out how to move the hoop-bar without telling the machine I'm trying to disconnect the arm, this has lead to me almost bending my needle twice while attempting to tighten the hoop/ re-thread the needle (needs a 'resting/standby space' not directly under the needle). Five Star bonus- it threads the needle itself! Not sure how it does it, but you loop the thread through other parts of the machine and pull a leaver- instant threading! You can still do it yourself, but why would you? (nit Pic 3- the needle must be in a specific spot to work, the leaver will not fully depress if the needle is not where it needs to be). Still a five star machine- it just have to figure it all out I'm sure. PEBKC probably (or PEBEMC).

I love it. I have had the se400 for almostv2 years . incredible machine, but I got hoop envy. I didn't need another sewing machine so this perfect. I have put in about 30 hours on in it the last couple of weeks not even a thread break. It is a bigger than the se400 so the embroidery arm does fit into the machine trolley. So I bought an 18.5 inch laptop bag to store the embroidery arm, hoops (I bought a hoop set for it) and other supplies. Light enough to take to classes and sit and sew with the luxury of a larger hoop size.

I love this machine! I am glad that I purchased separate software so that I can get the most out of this fabulous machine. I found the learning curve to be pretty short, but then again, I am an experienced sewer and designer. I am also incredibly comfortable with software. This is my first embroidery machine and I am so happy.
