OK, after months of reviews and stashing the top brands on my wish list - I went for this. Excellent price! I'm gona use it on my Big Truck. No More Thermoelectric coolers for this guy. Hoping it will hold up for years to come. Instructions not real clear - but easy to figure it out: you gota hold the set button for about 10 seconds till it starts to blink, then you can press it and cycle through the F and C and ECO and HH modes. You will also see E1, E2.... codes - these are the error codes just keep cycling. Once you reach the selection you want stop, it will set in about 5 seconds. Also the display shows the internal temp - very nicely done. And it had an internal LED light and heavy duty stay chain - which aren't clear in the pics or description. I plugged it in and set the Temp to 32 F, it went from 65 to 32 in less than 15 minutes in the house. I got a fridge thermometer and it is actually down to 30 F inside, not too shabby. I hate to say this, but yes this is a made in China - and very similar to the ARB Fridge/Freezer - only a tad bigger. Lets hope it holds up as well. Very quiet compressor and is turning on and off within 2 degrees F of my setting - probably set to cycle on and off at 1 degree C. I hope to have follow up reviews in the future. Good or Bad. UPDATE: this fridge looks just like the Smittybilt Artic Fridge/Freezer. Sorry for the poor quality pic. I am showing a 1 gallon jug of wiper fluid inside the cooler to give an idea how large the interior is. 7/16/2018 - purchased the Smittybilt transit bag - it fits perfectly. Heat off my exhaust is comming thru the floor of my Cascadia and bottom of fridge was too hot, folded up some window heat shields and that helped. I lined the bag with one shield and everything is working great. Left fridge on truck 24 hrs in 100 outside temps, parked in the sun - next day the fridge was working and hadn't drained batteries and my food and drinks were a frosty 34 degrees F.

I recently used the Costway 54 Quart Portable Refrigerator/Freezer during my Jeep trip on the Continental Divide trail. I was skeptical at first comparing the price to other high end fridge freezers. This product performed excellent. It took the pounding of 6200 miles of traveling, 2900 being off-road (dirt roads, jeep trails, forest service roads). It is deeper than what it appears in the pictures, but true it could hold roughly 50 cans. Almost a match for the Arctic. One note is that normally when switching power from one source to the next it would default to 32 degrees not your last setting. Only took getting used to, remembering to adjust temperature again once reconnected. If you are considering a Fridge/Freezer especially for your trail rig I'd give this a shot.

We were looking for something we could setup to run on DC with Solar and this unit performed well for a full week (continues to work well now). There was a point we received an error after I plugged the DC cord into a cigarette lighter socket, but it was only because the wiring/socket was not setup to handle the current draw, which is minimal by the way. Draw is 0.1A (1.2W) in standby (compressor not running), 3.5A (43W) compressor on high mode, and 2.7A (33W) compressor in economy mode. The unit cooled from 68 degrees F to 38 degrees F in 27 minutes with the compressor on high mode. Once it reached the set temperature, I then set it to the economy mode for cycling. When the unit is full of cold products, we found that it doesn’t cycle too often, thus maintaining the set temperature well. The outside dimensions, including back hinge and front panel, are Height 21 inches, Width 13 inches, and Length 27.5 inches. This is a good size unit that we use in our converted ambulance and pop-up camper. Don’t think that this is something you would place between the front seats of a vehicle, unless you have plenty of room. Measure first, then decide if there is enough space for the unit and outside airflow. There are vents on each side to keep the compressor cool, so be generous with spacing.

I am in a converted mini van super often. I used this is a refrigerator and it did PERFECTLY in extreme heat and humidity (95 degrees F plus). The internal thermometer may be a little “off” when I set it to 45 degree F, it holds at about 39 or 40. This does not bother at all as it’s been consistent. I use this with a Kodak portable power bank and a 60 watt portable folding solar panel. They worked amazingly for a couple weeks straight while camping.

This fridge fits perfectly in my 2014 JKU between the rear seat and tailgate. I even have the seat recline kit and a tailgate table installed. Using the 110 plug it went from 79f to 15f in about 15 minutes, plenty fast. I ran it for 14hrs off the Jeep battery at 34f and still had 12.4v in the morning. I’m now running it with my Yeti400. Very happy with the capacity. Holds a gallon of milk on one side of the divider. I was able to load up an 18 pack of cans on each side of the divider, so 36 cans total and still had room in the rear compartment. The temperature is a little wonky, definitely need a good thermometer to see the actual temp inside. Sometimes it’s colder than displayed, sometimes it’s warmer, but only by a few degrees. Does feel like cheap plastic, so need to be careful. It’s not insulated...at all. If it’s not running it’ll warm up 10 degrees in 30-45 minutes. Also, other fridge/freezers have a dedicated section by the compressor for the freezer part. This one is all fridge or all freezer. Kinda sucks but I can work around it. So for the price of less than half of the Smittybilt Arctic which is the exact same one, it’s a steal. Never going cooler again. Update: a lot of reviews about this having bad, cheap cables. Both the wall plug and the 12v acc plug I got with my unit and nice. Not worried about them lasting at all.

Used it for a week while 4 wheeling the Dusey Ershim trail. It was covered in dust, cramped in the back surrounded with camping gear with only an inch or two of space for vents. We rocked it, bounced it, tilted it at all angles and left it running for 5 days on only the main car battery set at 36F and it kept our food at just above freezing (little ice crystals in our bottled water) and never drained our battery or running. It does seem to have a 4-5 degree variation.

Was initially skeptical about buying a unknown name cooler but the price was just too good to not give it a fair shot. After purchasing the Costway 54qt cooler and waiting the entire summer in Arizona to leave a review, this is it. It's well worth the money, has not let me down in 115 degree weather, keeps items COLD and will even freeze is you want it to. No ice required. We took this thing to the lake Every weekend in the back of Our Nissan Armada packed with drinks on one side and food on the other. You don't have to worry about anything getting wet from ice which is great. We would sometimes cool our drinks down in the house fridge overnight such as large packs of water just to speed up the cooling process but absolutely not required given enough time just like in your home fridge. This thing sat in the back of the hot SUV all summer and ran perfect. Draws very little power being a compressor fridge it is very efficient. I tested it out and ran it for more than 24 hours in my truck in over 100 degree heat without running the truck. Everything inside was ice cold and the truck still started the next day. With that said, Every car and battery are going to be different. Any longer than that I wouldn't suggest without charging your battery. Very similar design to other products on the market and quality appears to be very similar as well. No issues there. Hope this helps. Will post update 1 year review at that point. UPDATE, dug the cooler out from it's winter hibernation last weekend and gave it a quick wipe down. Loaded it up and plugged it in. From 76 deg. Ambient temperature down to -10 degrees took less than 40 mins. I loaded up the cooler the next morning in the truck and headed to our weekend destination. This cooler continues to amaze me. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this cooler again. Hopefully I will see many more years of great service out of this cooler. If any issues cause concern I will update this review to reflect.

The one star rating given by another is not fair. Their complaint is it is too large. It is a 54 quart unit, and the dimensions are listed and correct. I am impressed with how quick it cools and how quiet it is. As fare as durability only time will tell, but if you look at the other Costway products, they all get high ratings. This leads me to believe they sell quality items.

Had an upcoming camping trip that was going to span 5 days and didn't want to deal with ice. So I hopped on amazon and looked for 12 volt refrigerators/freezers, and I decided to take a chance on this, which isn't a brand name with as much recognition as Dometic. I have to say, I'm really glad that I did. The price is fantastic for the size and functionality of the fridge. I was shocked at how fast it cooled down to temperature. The pic I attached is the power source I ran it off of - a Goal Zero Yeti 1400. Even without recharging it, I could have run it off of this pack for 3-4 days. With just 1, 100 watt solar panel, I can run this refrigerator indefinitely. When the compressor runs, it only draws about 45 watts. I did have one issue. The AC adapter they sent with it was really cheap and did not work. Normally, I'd give them 4 stars for that. However, I told them my issue and my time constraints, and they gave me 2 choices: ship me a new one, or refund me $50. I took the latter, since I plan to run this on 12 volt full time anyways, and I thought it was a fair and fast solution. They were very responsive. We'll see how it holds up long term, but I think this was a great buy.

This is by far the lowest priced fridge I could find with this large cap. I was unsure whether it would work well, but I've had it hooked up to my solar system for a month now 24/7, and it seems to work just fine. It draws down my three 100 amp lead acid batteries to 75% overnight now in June, when I've got it set at 0 to -2 cel which in theory is freezing, but nothing actually freezes, which is just what I want... really cold, but not frozen. If you want to freeze stuff I guess it should do that too... but I haven't tried. The depth is great, I also have a low cost short, smaller one in another van conversion I built https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073WYS3TR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that I run off one 100 amp battery. I bought this solar kit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06VYJ8JXH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and and extra controller https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRWTAB5/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and made two systems, each with a 100 watt panel. Just one panel will charge back the three battery system to 100% in two hours of direct sun this time of year. The other panel on the single battery system only needs 1 hr tops to fully charge from an overnight drain. Both work well for low cost 12v fridges.
