Better than expected

I built a toy box and the lid is made of oak. 33" x 17" x 3/4" and just over 13 pounds. I ordered the SafeStay 2211A hinges from Rockler thinking I would need 2 of them for the heavy lid. Fortunately Rockler sent an email to me with the instructions (2 pages) on regular typing paper - much easier on the eyes. The only glitch I had was the measurements are in millimeters. Rockler did send a page with a printing of a millimeter ruler. If you follow the measurements carefully it works well. In mounting the hinge on the side wall of the box the measurements given are from the outside wall of the box, so I figured that 3/4" = 20 mm and deducted it from the printed measurements to get an accurate placement of the hinge. I only needed one hinge for the box lid to close slowly. Works great!

Great Product

I installed one on a toy box I'm making for my grandson. The SafeStay arrived on time. Install was simple directions are well spelled out and they even provided a ruler you could down load if needed. Lid locks in the up position and lowers with out slamming I ordered one because the weight was well within tolerance it worked outstanding however my OCD made me order an additional one, after I installed that one it closed even slower and soft enough so as to not crush little fingers. I had my 2 year old granddaughter test it out for 30 minutes she was able to open and close without any incidences. The mechanism is enclosed reducing pinch points for little fingers. I recommend this for many applications but being kid safe was my biggest concern.

Quality and affordability.

I have tried other, more expensive soft close hinges for cedar chests and woodworking projects but decided to give this one a try. Success! I’m pleased with the hinge and added it to a chest that a family member made for me long ago and now am getting much more use out of it. The hinge measurements were a little confusing and I ultimately didn’t use the instructions, however, the seller informed me they are making changes to improve this issue. Couldn’t be happier!

Nice soft close

This is a great product. I made an Oak toy box for my grand daughter and wanted a soft close so she didn't get smashed fingers if the lid fell. I researched several products and chose the SafeStay Lid Stay. It arrived quickly with all hardware and very good instructions. A few reviewers noted they had to move the support a time or two to get it to not bind up, but I had no issues. The measurements in the instructions are in millimeters but you can easily convert them to inches if you need. The lid on the toy box is 18x30 and this closer lets it down at a perfect rate....not too fast or too slow. I'm pleased with this closer and have ordered a couple more for future products.

Wonderful service, great product!

My husband made a beautiful toy box for our granddaughter. We went to the local hardware store and big box store and tried several different safety hinges but none worked well. We ordered one of these and installed it, but although it slowed the descent of the lid, it still slammed shut. I sent a frustrated email to the company late one evening and when I woke up in the morning I had an answer. They suggested we move the hinge closer to the back of the box and higher on the lid and that solve the problem. I was very pleased with the quick response and the attention given to my problem. And the hinge works wonderfully! It's a good quality product from a company that believes in customer service.

Nice product!

Very nice hinge, especially for a child's toy or storage box. This product virtually eliminates the chance of pinched or mashed fingers. Installation takes a little thought and lay-out, and measurements are metric (which is no big deal). My advice: do the measuring and installation marks on a piece of paper that can be taped to the inside corner of the box and lid. Works great and prevents mistakes.

Check the weight of your lid

I did overlook the chart explaining how heavy the item will support. I did wind up needing four of them since my lid was made from .75 exterior plywood covered in cedar planks. It now works very well and I am quite pleased. They were simple to install and I think will last a long time as they appear to be well made.
