These are the best boots I've ever owned for $70
These are the best boots I've ever owned for $70. Fit was perfect - I measured my foot with a ruler and used a size chart that said I was almost exactly a size 10½. At any shoe store, including Sears where I bought the Timberland work boots these replaced, I usually have to try 9½, 10, and 10½ to get the fit right. These are 10½ and have just enough room in the toe and are snug and comfy on my ankle. They also weigh half as much as my Timberlands. I've read some of the negative comments - this was my first ever online purchase of boots I've never tried on - and they all seem to be from people who really should have tried them on before buying them. My feet are perfectly average according to measurements, and these boots fit exactly as described for the foot size used for making shoes. I also haven't seen the peeling of the shiny cover on the toes that has been reported in some reviews. I have a desk job and just really love wearing boots, so I can't speak to their durability under heavier use, but I do wear them every day and regularly ride my bike to work with them on. It's been almost 2 months since I received them and there are scuffs on the toe, but no indication that the materials are faulty. Very comfortable, very light, fit perfectly, and look nice. The side zip is a feature I never again want to live without and the tiny velcro strap that goes over the zipper pull is super functional without being a fashion feature like with some other styles of boots with a side zipper. You can barely see it, but it does exactly what it's supposed to. I reserve 5 star ratings for only the products that far exceed my expectations. 3 stars, for me, is "right price, what I expected". I am so happy with this purchase and did not expect them to be better than my Timberlands, but at $70 I was ok with them being something I keep in my closet but don't wear every day. 5 stars because I wear them non-stop for all the reasons above and they look great, even in business attire.

Watch out for mud!
I like 'em! I bought them to wander around in the woods and they do just fine. The zipper seems to be good quality and it makes it a lot easier and quicker to get the boots on your feet. They are stable in the rough - good ankle support. Good grip on slippery places too. I'd avoid running around in creeks with these since they are not at all water resistant. One downside I've found. The soles are enthusiastic mud huggers. They love mud and tend to offload it in the house, which of course will get you in trouble! A word to the wise... All in all, good looking and well made for the money. Glad I got these!

These boots are perfect! I got them for hiking
These boots are perfect! I got them for hiking, and after purchasing 6 different pair and hating all of them for various reasons, it is a huge relief! I'm a women's 9 and purchased these in a 7, but they were too tight. Got the 7.5's and they fit like a dream! I'll be updating my review, as they're not broken in yet, but for now, 5 stars! UPDATE: I've put some serious miles on these boots. There was virtually zero break-in period, which, in and of itself is amazing. The first hike i wore them for 4 miles and didn't have a single blister or sore spot. Since, I've worn them for more than 50 collective miles, and they're still in great shape, and still haven't put a single blister on my feet. They are great support for my ankles and keep your feet cool--are good for hiking in the desert. That said, i live in Arizona, so i have no idea if they're actually waterproof or not, but on all other points, these boots are great!!

Great boots for the price.
*Note- I normally wear New Balance shoes in 9.5 4E. I bought the 10." Wide boots. I had spent a couple of months looking for a pair of boots with a side zipper when I found these. Compared to the pair of Bates boots that I tried at Sears- these are a far better buy. They don't leak nearly as much- but mainly for rainy weather- your not going to be wading in these. The zippers are YKK types- much stronger than the flimsy cheap zippers on the Bates. In terms of fit- 10 was unavailable and these are not available in 9.5 4E. I wound up getting 10 2Es- and they fit perfectly, so I'd say they run a bit smaller than New Balance. I have rather flat feet- and the insoles are perfectly fine for me. They will take a bit to fully break in, but so far I've never felt better when standing for long periods. The toe is reinforced- these aren't steel-toed. The soles have rather aggressive treads- so make sure to knock the mud off. The zippers are really handy for taking the boots off without having to deal with the laces after a long day. For the price this is a great deal, as the Bates go for 120$. These are manufactured in Vietnam. Highly recommend this pair of boots if your looking for a pair of boots with a tall ankle cuff+ side zipper.

After 14 months, still great!
I bought these in July of 2017 to be used mainly as motorcycle boots for my daily commute (50-mile round trip). They fit well; I'm about a size 10 - 11, depending on shoe brand, so I bought a size 10.5. They are easy to get on/off using just the side zipper and I rarely need to tie or retie the laces. They were pretty comfortable right out of the box, and after breaking them in they have only gotten better. They are still in excellent condition, so they seem to be well-made, but since I only use them for riding, I'm not sure how helpful that is. I have put around 5-6k miles on my bike with them. When I have to walk a distance after I park, they feel comfortable, so I can't think of anything I would want to improve.

Great Stability Boot - Zipper holds strong
Bought this product as a replacement to my set of USMC Issued boots. Had moved back to 8" boot from the civilian sneakers and low top shoe life after re-injuring both ankles and the Dr. negotiated a good pair of high boots vs. sporting dual ankle casts or a wheeler chair for a few weeks. Wearing the boots 24 x 7 for 2 weeks, and no issues. My first pair with a zipper, and no issues there either, holds surprizingly well, boots stay very tight. Take them off 3x per day in 1/2 the time the old pair which adds, up and matters allot when you're taking them off to clean them after stepping in horse droppings. Took 2 days to wear in, but very supportive, I bought dr. scholls inserts for them, but haven't needed to put them in yet. Thought were a lil big to the size, but not an issue. Less pain in these boots then the last time I had an ankle cast. Thanks SW.

Husband loves them!
I bought these for my husband who is an EMS dispatcher and EMT. At first he was upset that I had ordered them online, until he wore them for the first time. He's now been wearing them every day for 3 weeks with no complaints! That's pretty good for the price. He also loves the ease of the zipper, he was worried they wouldn't stay up but so far they have. I would definitely recommend these and will be buying him a backup pair soon.

they dont look comfortable
But they are. We will see how they hold up. I will say they are comfortable. added new years : I guess it depends on who is wearing these boots. when I say comfortable it isnt coming from some delicate flower. I have an older pair that are not exact as these and I adapted to them when the ortho shoes failed my quality test wearing out in record time. I live on a hill which can be dangerous terrain. it is slip factor on a hill that determines its danger. Anyway while these boots looked bound up with the slope in the front to the toe , they have not caused notable rubbing and I am on my feet alot. My originals were old factory seconds I think and bought for like 25 $ and so I thought these would be better quality being front door. Engineering wise they are minus webbing liner inside the zipper on the sides which was a minus at first in my view but now I think maybe it wasnt needed. The zipper teeth are smaller than my old pair which is the part that was damaged and stripped the zipper so maybe the newer smaller teeth will hold up better. I am tough on anything but in this case that was probably the factory second flaw from the beginning on the old pair and they are still functional five+ years in wear. this is an honest total comparison and assessment . I do like the boots . they fit like a glove in a 13R . I might even be ok in a wider pair . good support and nice tread to dig in on a slope.

Great boots! Very sturdy
Great boots! Very sturdy, the fit to size (I am an 11, I ordered an 11.5 so I could add and insole and they fit perfectly). So, if you want to use an insole order a 1/2 to 1 size larger. They seem sturdy enough to last for years. I sprayed ScotchGuard on them right when I got them so they will clean up with just a wipe when they get dirty. The are better than the boot that start with an "M"..... Would buy again!

Nice comfortable lightweight and convenient zipper. Look good too.
These boots are nice. Light weight, comfortable, breathable, and solidly constructed. They look pretty cool, too. I love the side zipper, it's way better than undoing laces after a long day of work, and then wrestling my boots off, loosening laces again, wrestling more... With these it's just a velcro tab and a zzzip and they slide right off with no undue effort. I was able to wear them at work all day, straight out of the box - they are flexible enough to where they don't need an extensive "breaking-in" period like some other boots. and then there's the "cool factor" because they're Smith & Wesson branded. everybody says "wow I didn't know they made boots" I bought these to replace a worn-out set of Magnum boots, and I like these way more. they're lighter, more flexible, and they look cooler I think. also the tread is more "rubbery" and it's softer to walk on, and grips a slick surface better than the harder soles on the Magnums. No steel toe on these, but it's a welcome change, just for the weight difference. the toe is "reinforced" with plastic, but it definitely won't protect like a steel toe.. something to keep in mind if you need that extra protection you might wanna look into a different model with a steel toe. I've only had them a day, so I can't testify to their longevity, only time will tell. but so far I think they're great! No blisters or rawness, my feet felt great after 10 hours working on my feet in them. (update: good so far, after 2 months) I ordered 10.5 size, my normal size, and they fit with no problem. no need to go up or down compared to other boots. I've got pretty flat feet, so I don't like any kind of arch in the sole, and these don't bother my non-arch at all. compared to red wing boots, the arch in those was agony after a few hours walking in them... also the price isn't bad, $70 compared to $100 for the Magnums, or $200 for the red wings, this seems like a good value for (IMO) better boots. Also they don't set off the metal detector, which is convenient, as I go through one on the way in and out of work, I don't have to stop to be "wanded" anymore. Edit/update: 4/14/17 (2 months later) - I've been wearing them to work every day, and they are holding up quite well. No problems with the zippers, or stitching, or anything. The leather is pretty durable, and hasn't scuffed up or gotten gouged easily like my last pair of boots (Magnum Response), they still look pretty nice. The break-in period was short and painless, which is more than I can say for a lot of other boots. I didn't get blisters from them or anything, They're still comfortable, my feet don't hurt after working being on my feet on concrete all day, including a significant amount of walking, The soles are holding up well, and have a good amount of grip. The side zipper is a god-send, it makes it so nice to take them off after a long day without having to futz around with laces, and I can throw them on really fast if I'm late getting out the door. To be honest, I think I've only untied/tied the laces twice since I got them! I'd definitely recommend these boots to anyone who has to be on their feet all day for work or whatever. 10/10 so far!
