So this is actually my second purchase of an Ember mug and even though I liked the first, this one is even better. I had bought the first iteration and did thoroughly enjoy it. Unlike the coaster heaters, the mug would evenly warm the coffee so that it was still effective with a full cup and not too hot or burned when there was only a small amount left. I have a few (okay, several) cups of coffee throughout the day but I sip them slowly, so this was perfect for me. However, these were my two primary complaints. 1) It looked dirty even if it wasn't. The white color looked nice at the beginning, but given my frequent use, it got stained and scratched after a while. This was mostly just visually unappealing but the coating did come off too. 2) The charging coaster - I got an extra one so I could use it at two locations. They aren't cheap at around $45. The contact charging pins got stuck on one of them after only about 2 months and it stopped working. A couple months later the second one did too. I contacted customer service about it and apparently it was a known issue to be fixed in the second version. I was a little hesitant to invest so much in another fancy coffee cup, so I waited a while to get another. However, I'm happy to say that it appears that both of my previous complaints are fixed in the new version. The black mug is much more my style(and doesn't stain) and the charging pins have been redesigned. No problems so far. Can totally recommend.

Best mug EVER!

I can honestly say this is my new favorite mug! I love coffee, but I prefer it scalding hot. I don’t own a microwave, so I used to have to rush to drink my coffee before it got cold. Now, with the Ember, I can leisurely enjoy my cup of morning coffee without worrying that it’s going to get cold. Also, I’m a teacher, and can’t wait to use this at work. I usually get to work, set down my coffee, get to teaching, and don’t get to my coffee until recess. The Ember will keep it piping hot for me! Thank you, Ember, for solving my coffee problems and letting me enjoy!!!

I like it a lot but be nice to it .

This is my second one . It is a great product . But you have to follow these instructions 1) NEVER use a sponge with a scrubber on it ever . Even if you let the edge touch when using the other side you will ruin it and over time the coating will chip (hencenmy 2nd one ) . 2) use the Charging saucer and use it when not drinking . You can walk around for just under 2 hours without putting it under the saucer before itnlosses it charge . I just rince with soapy water and wipe out with a towel. For me , it is great . 130 degrees is perfect . Love it . For someone who is hard on their stuff - not a good product because I was actually quite careful and made one mistake with that darn sponge . Company has excellent customer service by the way . They sent me a free charger saucer when the prong broke . Very good company .

THE mug of the future!

I loved the simplicity and compactness of the packaging. My ember mug arrived in perfect condition. Be sure to charge up your mug before you use it! After charging, downloading the ember app was a breeze and the mug paired easily with my iPhone (be sure to hold the power button down for 5 seconds and have your phone's bluetooth on and discoverable). I was quite surprised by the range of connectivity my phone maintained with the mug— I could be in a separate room with my phone without affecting the mugs ability to maintain temperature! My favorite feature is how the ember app notifies you when your coffee is at your perfect temperature. The app also has some awesome preset temps to choose from (I.e. coffee, tea, latte, etc.). Although the battery doesn’t last for hours, the battery has more than enough energy capacity for your morning coffee or tea rituals. From personal experience, heating my coffee or tea for more than 30 minutes changes the flavor for the worst, as it starts to taste burned. Be mindful that this is an open mug and not a travel mug. The rate of heat loss will be much faster without a lid and heat maintenance will require much more energy and battery. If you’re looking for longer maintenance of your hot beverage, I would recommend purchasing the travel mug! Overall, I am suuuuper happy with my ember purchase!

Love this mug!

This mug works for me! I did some researches before byuing this mug. As it turns out that I really love this one. Despite the connectivity issues some reviews mentioned, I don't even need to use the App to enjoy my coffee. The design is elegent and core functionality works every time just as advertised. I was kind of worried the delamination issue post by some reviews but it doesn't happen to me. It is easy to clean and the battery lasts few usages before putting back on charging station. I am really enjoyed that it can even reduce temperature when pours in super hot tea. The downside is that I need to find the cup when I need coffee or tea unless I have couple of them lying around. It would be better if the App can locate it. For the most part, the cup does most of the work which is pretty amazing in its own right. I would totally recommend this mug. [Update] After heavily using the cup for more than a month, I am glad that I didn't see the de-lamination issue. Still enjoy using it!

Keeps Drinks Warm, Classy Looking Mug

Only had this for a month as of right now. So far works great. Keeps beverages at a good warm drinking temp. Not too hot, but prevents coffee and tea from getting cold when left forgotten on my desk or counter. Haven’t had any problem with chipping yet. Hopefully I won’t be afflicted with that problem. I hand wash this with the soft side of the sponge. Cleans easily. I don’t put this in the dishwasher. I believe it is suppose to be handwash only anyway. Because of other reviews of chipping, I don’t put any metal in the cup (i.e., as stirring spoon). If I want to mix some sugar and/or cream or milk in with my coffee or tea I use a wooden chopstick to avoid any chance at scratching the edges. Overall nice classy product. Yes it’s expensive but it’s more portable than other similar devices. Battery life on cup is so far so good. Nice that I don’t always have to keep it on the charger or a heating plate for it to be kept warm. Can leave it on a counter or table and it will still be warm when I come back to it hours laters.

Great for Slow Drinkers

Just what I needed! I hated how quickly my coffee cooled down but not when using my Ember cup! The cup charges by sitting on what looks like a saucer so I have that next to the coffee pot. Charged quickly and battery lasts hours, I haven't had it die on me yet, used for about three hours so far. Has pre set temperatures that can be adjusted warmer or cooler from the app. It goes into sleep mode so no turning on and off just wash dry and sit on saucer. In the directions it says to not use metal so I got silicone spoons from the baby section to stir my cream and sugar.

I didn't think I would care for it....

I received this item as a gift. I drink a lot of coffee, and I do tend to leave my cups lying around long enough for it to get cold and I have to traipse to the microwave to heat it up for 10 seconds. Even after knowing my habits though, I didn't think I would use this product enough. It seemed like a hassle to have to charge a coffee cup, and because of that I didn't use it for some weeks. After some coaxing, I finally pulled it out of the box and it has changed my life! I kind of feel bad, because this is the only coffee cup I now use. I have whole cabinets filled with awesome mugs and that's where they'll stay. The ceramic mug is ridiculously easy to clean. It isn't dishwasher safe, so it needs to be hand washed. Honestly, all I do is rinse it with hot water and place it back on the charger. It's coffee, and, unlike some cups that keep coffee stains and smells (even after heavy washing), this thing resilient. Just make sure you dry it before putting it back on the charger. Water and electricity usually don't mix well. The one thing I will say is that it keeps my coffee hot, and the less liquid is in the cup, it seems like the hotter it gets. So, after I drink most of my coffee, I tend to turn the cup off so I don't burn my mouth. Since I only use this cup, I don't have mugs piling up with leftover coffee in them either. I only say it changed my life, because one morning I realized I had forgotten to put the cup back on it's charger the day before. I was so bummed having to make my coffee in my batman mug (which is my favorite), that it dawned on me how much I preferred using the Ember mug. Long story short, great mug! Purchased as a gift for my father-in-law too. His experience is much the same as mine, haha. Didn't think we'd care for it, but now we love it!

Reading other reviews with those that understand the "in's & out's" of the product, I have found it to be outstanding! Now I have had a problem develope with the inside of the cup; however, ember support immediately came back with response and a replacement cup is on the way. Also, a return shipping label has been provided to return the cup for failure evaluation. Not do I enjoy my "hot coffee or tee" -- for sure, I am one of those drinkers that does get involved in my projects and become a sipper! The travel mug will be purchased very soon!!! enjoy, enjoy....

Awesome product!

A friend of mine told me about this temperature-controlled mug, and admittedly, I raised an eyebrow when I first heard of the concept. I didn’t see myself as the electric coffee cup person. I figured when your coffee/tea gets cold, it’s just time to throw it in the microwave. But, I decided to order one, and I’m now eating (or drinking?) my words... I am a creamer kinda person. It’s always a little sad when your refrigerated creamer makes your hot coffee pool temp. [Enter microwave.] You can very easily warm your coffee up on the app and it takes seconds. Even if you’re not a creamer person, not all of us have time to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee before it gets cold. Problem solved. I’m a spaz and don’t sit still, which means my drinks do. When I come back to my tea/coffee, it’s hot and wonderful. Would definitely recommend!
