Why didn't I switch to this earlier!
I spent a ton of money on an AC1750 router a few years ago that was super fast, especially with my MacBook Pro which connected at 1300Mbps. The problem, it didn't cover my entire home. Devices (especially smart devices) kept disconnecting and the range was laughable. After a lot of research and after trying the Google Mesh routers, I returned it and didn't look back at this technology. Eventually I couldn't ignore the youtube videos for the Orbi anymore and by finding this refurbished unit it ticked all my boxes, especially the price. I unpacked it, and in less than 10 minutes I had the satellite setup and all my devices running. My Macbook only connects at 866Mbps now but it connects anywhere in my home at that speed. I still run a solid 70+ MB/sec from my NAS. Also, if you have smart devices that require you to put the router in 2.4Ghz mode to setup, no worries; All my smart devices connected and are much more responsive that they were before. The backhaul channel is faster than my gigabit wired setup, so I disconnected it and am now running completely wireless.

Full House Coverage
I have about 2300 sq ft (40X40 foundation, 2-story) and this unit covers all of it well. Just having a traditional router (Netgear R7000) wasn't getting a strong enough signal to my outdoor security cameras, the weak signal was making the video recordings a little choppy. Determined it was the wireless signal when I moved the router from a central location to the front of the house and suddenly all of the front recordings were perfect. Tried wireless extenders with little success. Decided to give this refurbished unit a try and currently operating on day 5 and it has been functioning perfectly with 19 devices connected. All wireless devices have a strong signal throughout the house with router upstairs forward-center and satellite downstairs rear-center. It sometimes takes a few minutes to switch to the stronger signal from the router-to-satellite and satellite-to-router, but I expect that this is a result of the signal from either being fairly strong throughout the house. Setup was a breeze, just takes a minute or 2 to sync before the iPhone app can see it. So far very happy with the refurbished unit. Will update if perception and/or performance changes.

A great technological leap forward
I'm really impressed by this product, 1 day in. In short, my WiFi is now faster everywhere in my house than it previously was anywhere in my house, with very simple setup. I picked up one of these refurb systems on Woot to replace my aging network setup, which consisted of a final-gen Apple Airport Extreme on the main floor of my house, bridged over a Powerline ethernet adapter to an Airport Express on the upper floor of my house (both broadcasting the same wireless network). The prior system worked, but WiFi signal was spotty in places and wouldn't really reach far into my yard. I'd get around 100-200 Mbps downstream near the Airport Extreme, and 20-100 Mbps downstream near the Airport Express (speed degradation likely due to the Powerline adapter -- a high end model but limited by my home's circuitry). I swapped in the Orbi to the same locations, set it up with the app in about 10 minutes (really could not have been easier -- I'm tech-savvy but networking setups were a pain even with Apple's software) , and then upgraded the firmware. When it came back online, I went around my house running Speedtest and was consistently getting over 200 Mbps downstream, everywhere, including areas of my yard that previously didn't get signal. This device has essentially made my Apple networking gear and powerline networking unnecessary due to its speed. The tech is newer, so it should be better, but it's really refreshing to have a product live up to its promises and be better in every way AND easier to use. I've already ordered another Orbi system to take on my in-laws' house and its WiFi dead spots. (Note that the speed got noticeably better once I upgraded the firmware - be sure you do that if you purchase this system.)

Having WiFi problem...then installed Orbi...no problems now.
I had a Brand X (aka no-name Chinese) MESH system which I bought last February. It worked just fine with streaming video (which I thought was the most challenging assignment) but had problems with switches set up for Alexa and the music on Airplay was audible Swiss cheese with holes in the music every few seconds. I did EVERYTHING for months to ameliorate this problem. Finally, I decided that I'd get a new highly-rated MESH router and if that didn't cure the problem, I'd just send it back within the allowed 30 days. Well, surprisingly, it completely remade my WiFi into something both robust and dependable. In short: HUGE DIFFERENCE. Music is now sounding great, once again, and I have detected no other coverage problems. It's a whole new experience. Great product; highly recommended. Wish I had bought it in February...oh, and this one was re-conditioned but looks and works like factory mint.

Fixed our wifi issues!
We have AT&T gigabit service at home. For quite awhile we had been having problems with the Wifi (drop-outs, dead zones, pauses, etc). After being on our third modem, I had to figure that it was probably a design issue with the modem (not the first time I've run across this with different vendors). I was going to get the Google mesh network, but after doing some research, I found that the Orbi's had significantly faster performance because of using a separate channel to communicate back to the network. Put another way, Google's design would be more like this: you say something to me. I say, "Hold on a sec." Then I repeat it back to network. Then I say to you, "OK, go ahead." - that's essentially their design. I've used them; they're excellent and easy to set up, but since I'm often shipping videos and large amounts of high-quality photos, I wanted to keep it as fast as possible. Orbi's is more like a court reporter: You're talking to someone in the room. While you and they are talking, I'm transcribing what you say in real time, and you don't have to pause. The information flows steadily. Since putting in the Orbi's, our performance is now steady and fast. I'm about to replace my laptop, which is older. My laptop max is only about 60mbit/sec, but others in my family report very fast responses now, compared to before. Our service comes in on our main floor, so I put the base Orbi there on the main floor, about the center of the house. I put the second one in our basement, again about the center of the house, behind a TV. Configuration wasn't as easy as Google, but it didn't take an advanced college degree to figure out, either. Overall, I'm pleased with the results. It's been totally stable since setup about 2 months ago. I'd highly recommend them. They just work and I generally forget I even have them. That's how it's supposed to work.

Most powerful mesh network router available
I researched mesh network routers exhaustively before I bought this. I have used a few different mesh networks at this point. This one is by far the most powerful. If you are having trouble getting a signal through walls, floors, or ceilings and that is your primary motivation for a mesh network then this is the one you want. The Velop is probably the second most powerful router mesh network after the Orbi. I like the Linksys Velop app better and it has more options for managing its features and said features are easier to manage. The Velop also has a smaller form but it has less ethernet ports. The app and the website for managing the Orbi router is definitely its weak point but you will learn its ins and outs eventually. It all works fine, it is just not the most user friendly in terms of design. This also has a ton of Ethernet ports on every node which is nice and would work with a hard wired Ethernet system if you installed one in the future. Get the most powerful Orbi model and not the cheaper less powerful ones. Why spend money to get the most powerful mesh router and then buy a less powerful version of it for a minor discount?

So easy to install, but avoid the Orbi app!
We switched internet service providers about a year ago when our prior service provider wanted to start charging us for using more than a set amount of data a month. We went from cable internet to DSL. Anyways, before we were able to have our cable modem anywhere there was a coaxial connection in our home and had it in our office. The DSL coming into our home has the strongest signal coming directly into the house and the existing phone lines throughout our home (built in 1999) were not as great and our speeds would have been about half of what the phone line coming into the house would be, so we placed our router in the garage where the phone line comes into the house. Over the past year we experienced dead spots with our dual band Asus AC1900 router, which we are still using as an access point for our USB hard drive which holds 4 TBs of movies and music. Setting up the Orbi was extremely simply. Initially, I was trying to use the iOS app, but it was being cumbersome so I switched to the web based method using the 192.168.1.1 address and the Netgear wizard walked me through the setup. I am not by any means a computer savvy person. This was the easiest router I have ever setup. Everything was practically automatic. The most confusing part was trying to turn my old Asus AC1900 router into an access point to utilize my USB hard drive. That would be the only downside of the Orbi I have found so far, the lack of USB storage, and since I am not computer savvy, I’m not sure how do to a work around, especially since our drive is in NTSF format and not FAT32. But the method I figured out works so we will stick with it. Until something better comes along. Before we installed the Orbi the coverage in our home was quite limited and often spotty. Streaming service would drop, webpages would fail to load, and calls would drop if using WiFi calling. My spouse and I finally stopped connected our phones to the WiFi all together and just used the cellular service, which was fine cause it is unlimited. I’m surprised we didn’t get a mesh system sooner. Had I known how easy it would be to set up I would have done this a long time ago.

I thought the Internet was broke!
When I upgraded my internet speed to 500 Mbps service I was only seeing throughput of about 250 Mbps through my ASUS router which was supposed to have dual-core processors! I used only wired connections and was not impressed with the cable company's ability to troubleshoot the issue! The ORBI has a 4-port Gigabit switch on the main Router and the Satellite! This unit sells for much more in all the stores. I can rely on this to provide the fastest speeds my ISP can deliver! I am sure in the future when fiber speeds come down the line that this System will be able to handle it. The single SSID function just works seamlessly! There are no dead spots anymore! I'll always go for a factory refurbished unit as anything that has a 'child failure' has now been factory repaired and should last a long time!

After a few days happy with performance
I set up both router and satellite within an hour, which would be longer than normal I would think. I have a lot of devices that I wanted to make sure worked properly. One issue I am having is the router. I have the satellite registered with Netgear for warranty but the router says it is already registered! Must not have been cleared off files by Netgear after refurb.. Contacted Netgear and had to email proof of purchase. Been a week and still have not heard back, but was issued a claim number. We will see if I need any warranty / tech support down the road. The items are shipped in plain unmarked boxes, but look and perform like new. A simple quick start guide and power supplies are included. For a buck and change I included 2 yr extra warranty which was maybe a good thing. Just wish I could get this thing registered though.I did replace my Original router which was a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 and a Amped AC2600 range extender, one in basement and the other in attached garage.Placed ORBI units in those same locations. Slightly better range but will need another unit , satellite, in living room if I want to extend further into back yard. A lot of walls to pass through and about 50 devices running through wireless, cameras, WeMo switches, GoGo gate, Insteon, and so on.

Really great purchase
This is a NetGear refurbished RBK50 Orbi Router (RBR50) and Satellite (RBS50) system. Arrived as scheduled and came in a plain brown box. Each individual unit about 9 inches tall and 6 inches wide and 2+ inches thick and comes with an A/C power connector (really quite big and sits perpendicular to power strip or wall outlet and takes up a good 3+ inches to side of strip or outlet). Netgear offers this product with a Refurbished Product Limited Warranty (90 day hardware and 90 day complimentary technical support). Out of box the Quick Start Guide was sufficient to install the system. First disconnected my former ASUS wireless router and disconnected all internet cables to it. Installed the Router first and connected it to my Xfinity Cable modem. Next installed Satellite downstairs and waited for sync. (Surprised at how long it took to sync, but no problems at all once done). Then connected via direct connect to home PC and followed the login instructions. A little lengthy, but no problems (got to keep working on that patience thing!) Once connected and signed into admin account changed admin id and password on ORBI and renamed the WiFi SSID to my prior home network with same password. Voila!!! This little mother really has made a remarkable difference in wireless coverage and throughput in our two story, 3400 sf home. PC runs great, all tablets fly, smart phones are great, and Smart devices run much better. Pros: Easy to setup (if you are patient) Improves coverage and speed of home wifi network Cons: Units a little big Power adapter huge Highly recommend this system if you want to dramatically improve your WiFi coverage and throughput.
