• A spine-chilling reimagining of a horror classic - Based on the original PlayStation console release in 1998, the new game has been completely rebuilt from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience
  • A whole new perspective – New over-the-shoulder camera mode and modernized control scheme creates a more modern take on the survival horror experience and offers players a trip down memory lane with the original gameplay modes from the 1998 release.
  • Terrifyingly realistic visuals – Built on Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 delivers breathtakingly photorealistic visuals in 4K whilst stunning lighting creates an up-close, intense and atmospheric experience as players roam the corridors of the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD).
  • Face the grotesque hordes – Zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect as they react in real time taking instant visible damage, making every bullet count.
  • Iconic series defining gameplay – Engage in frenzied combat with enemies, explore dark menacing corridors, solve puzzles to access areas and collect and use items discovered around the environment in a terrifying constant fight for survival

As a big fan of the series and after the amazing return to greatness that was Resident Evil 7 I was cautiously excited about the remake of Resident Evil 2. However I did not expect to be blown away by one of the best "remastered " games I have ever played. The game is absolutely incredible on every level and manages to play even better than the original. The use of the updated Resident Evil 7 engine and the change of camera perspective really helps to give everything a new feel while still being the great game it originally was. One unexpected surprise was despite familiar moments I remembered from playing through Resident Evil 2 before there seemed to be some changes to key locations and cut scenes (admittedly though it has been a long time). This game is a reminder of just how truly great a survival horror game can be. You walk around never knowing what's next and swearing that you finally took out an enemy only to be surprised when they aren't quite done yet. The Tyrant enemy is at times frustrating, annoying and amazing. But nothing feels more incredible then when you are panicking while trying to truly aim yourself as multiple zombies approach. A head shot in a game has never felt so frustratingly satisfying especially when you only take off a piece of their head and they keep coming. My plan is to play through with every character (I believe 4 characters have various levels of playthroughs including the 2 main protagonists (Leon and Claire)) accessible to get as much of the story as possible and in a true testament to this game I can not wait to see how each play through differs and tells more of the story. After playing this I hope the rumors of a remastered version of Resident Evil Nemesis and Code Veronica are true because if they put the same level of effort in then we will have more modernized classics to enjoy!

The most fun I've had in a singleplayer horror game in a long time. I played RE 1 and 2 when I was a kid with an OG ps1 back in nineteen ninety ... whatever. This game captures the nostalgia of that for me. The devs really did a great job with this game and deserve all the love. I can only hope that this will signal an re3 remake or at least a return to form for future RE games. C'mon Konami. Give us a Silent hill remake.

I played the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 back in their prime. They were great, tense games with fulfilling puzzles and a rewarding learning curve. But the reality is that those games have not aged well in either their visuals or controls. RE2 Remake takes the bold approach in creating a brand-new game that seeks to recapture the feel the original, rather than just update it with a fresh coat of paint. While this is normally a recipe for disaster, the developers have managed to succeed in a way that only true fans of the original could have. They have done the impossible: make shambling zombies threatening again. I have two nitpicks with the game, with the first being just how short it is. This of course will vary greatly from person to person, but for me clocked in at about 5 hours for my first run. And while there is the "second run" and other modes and characters to play as, a lot of this is just retreading the same content over and over, and it doesn't excuse a shorter main story. At least not with a 60$ price tag. My second nitpick is how few weapons are available in each run. Leon and Claire both get 5-6 different weapons, which is nice, but those weapons are exclusive to the characters. Leon never gets the SMG or grenade launcher, and Claire never gets the shotgun or flamethrower. And while this does add some distinction to each character's playthrough, and is true to the original, it also really limits each playthrough when compared to RE4 where you could pick your loadout from a large selection of weapons (and upgrades too). I think the limited inventory space plus the new gunpowder mechanic BEGS for an abundance of weapons to really test the player's management. Overall, the game is great and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre, even if you are new to the series.

All I can say is amazing amazing amazing remake better than the original!after the huge letdown of re7 by capcom they sure make up with this release, please capcom remake re3 nemesis and re code Veronica the later would make the best remake ever. The only thing that bothered me in the game is that when you shoot the zombies in there head they don’t die instantly instead you need to shoot them like 5 times in the head which doesn’t make sense when you shoot in the head that should be an instant kill. The tyrant mr x is so cool and bad ass it amazes me though that in this game he seems to be more powerful than G since no fire arms can damage him but there is a surprise that happens to him in Claire’s campaign but I’m not going to say. Capcom keep up the good work also you might wanna add in a future remake the option to have a red laser scope to your firearms like re4 re5 etc. PS:RE7 was a terrible game that had absolutely nothing to connect it with the story of the rest of the series and even worst they changed the it to a first person shooter,so I can’t understand the praise by some people,if it was so great it would have sold better but it didn’t it was a commercial flop!

Disclaimer: I have not yet finished the game, I may have 10 hours on it tho. I never played the second Resident Evil but this game is super fun to play and with my experience with Resident Evil 7, I’d say that it feels the same in terms of mechanics and ambiance. The amount of effort put into this game must have been insane! Every bullet matters, yet I still feel the need to use them all the time because of how powerless I am, and this is what Resident Evil is all about. The zombies may not be much of a threat but there is always this need of killing them but you have to get rid of it otherwise you won’t survive! I would highly recommend this game if you’re looking for an experience that feels new and engaging.

this is better than the original & i'm a old school RE fan since 97 . this remake is more darker & serious & this what we needed after the series went into action with RE 4' 5&6 the series was starting going into the wrong direction survival horror was gone until REVII saved it & now we gotten another one thank you capcom for listening to the fanbase

Sticks to the source story wise 90% with modern changes but nothing bad to complain about, honestly Fun to play through all four times and has plenty challenging parts that still feel awesome even though you're gonna be like WTF URRGH! lol Does it live up to the Hype? Hell yes and surpasses it. Capcom might be working on RE3: Nemesis as we speech because 80% of the assets are already there and it it definitely in demand now that we have RE2 Remake the fans are happy and excited for Nemesis and making us happy brings them more money....BUY IT NOW!

I started playing Resident Evil with the original 1996 release, and it was actually the first game I picked up for the PlayStation 1. I have played every, and I mean every Resident Evil game in the series, including the spin-offs. The series has had so many ups and downs that more often than not, I often had to forces myself to finish many of the Resident Evil games. When they are great, they can be some of the best games around, but when they are bad, they can be some of the worse games I have ever had to endure. There is no other way I can put it, the series as a hole has been wildly inconsistent. Out of all the games in the series, Resident Evil 2 has always been my favorite, there was so many things the game did right. I was 16 when Resident Evil 2 was first released, and waited outside of Buy Right Video Games before they opened for my copy. I was heavily addicted to the game for that entire year, and it never left my system until later in the year when is was time for the original Metal Gear Solid to bestow its glory. I later picked up a Sega Dreamcast to play it all over again, as it featured upgraded graphics with a new Nightmare Difficulty Mode. Resident Evil 2 was my most, and still is, the game with my greatest amount of completed speed-runs, it would fall somewhere around 100 playthroughs. With all that being said, people will be happy to know that the remake stays very true to the original. I am sure there will be some people who will leave negative reviews regarding any changes, as some events have been rearranged or expanded upon with some surprising twists, but everything is better than the original in every conceivable way. Capcom has even added the extras from the original in the remake, such as the playable Tofu used for the games collision detection as well as HUNK. Have no fear for those who are wondering, because the remake does include the Wesker's Desk Easter egg and Brad Vickers. The game has an astronomical attention to detail while still paying homage to the original with the uttermost respect. There are many things I would like to say but would rather not say, its one of those games people should experience for themselves. I will however say a few things. Each campaign is around 8 hours long and offers 3 difficulty settings, Assisted, Standard and Hardcore. The first 2 settings use a auto-saving and manual save feature with one being a little harder than the other. Hardcore is very hard, featuring very strong enemies and no auto-aim. Hardcore also uses the "old school" saving system, meaning players can only save using Ink Ribbons that are hidden within the games world. Be warned, the Hardcore Mode in the remake is very extreme, and I would say it is on par with the original Evil Within Akumu Mode. The graphics and lighting are superb and uses the same engine found in Resident Evil 7. The sounds are top notched, the controls are tight and the characters move and feel real as if they have weight to them. The zombie animations and blood splatter are the most realistic I have ever seen in a game to date. On point shooting lets players blast off arms and legs as well as heads. Throughout the journey, all previous bosses pay their respects, nothing has been cut from the game. For those who know what to expect from playing the original, I will say yes to those who are wondering, you will be "stalked" relentlessly by yours truly, and jump scares have been shifted around so players never known what to expected. Inventory and ammunition management is still key, players are given just barely enough ammo and healing items and you cannot carry everything you find, always hording what you can store. Final Verdict: The quality is fantastic and I would recommend the remake to anyone out there who loves horror games. Both Leon and Claire each have a top notch campaign that never deviates from the original, and the 3 difficulty options are welcoming to those who may want an easy ride as well as hardcore. Capcom said they may follow with other remakes depending on our support and feedback and so far I like what I see. I would love to see the original built from the ground up, and while I enjoyed the HD remake, its still not on the same level as a remake of this magnitude. Lets make it happen!

I would just like to say Wow! Thank you Capcom. Resident Evil 2 is amazing, I owned the original RE1 in '96 owned this RE2 original in '98. This game is so great, in many ways. This new version remade from the ground up is freaking awesome. It's up to date, less clunky, super scary, the graphics are top notch, even how they added the touchs to the map, was a smart idea. I love how it marks items and puzzles for you, unless you memorized every room it was a pain in the butt to run around in circles trying to remember where you needed to go, no need to do that anymore. Everything is better, the camera, the gore, this is why I have given it 5 stars. Several friends bought the game as well and all agreed, I highly recommend.

It's only January and Resident Evil 2 has already established itself as the game to beat for Game of The Year 2019. I cannot give this game enough praise for blowing me away with its playability, its graphics, its super likeable characters, atmospheric setting, etc. I never played the original (couldn't get past the tank controls) but I'm a huge fan of the series as a whole, so I've been anticipating this for quite some time. I am quite pleased to say that this game is fairly nearly flawless from beginning to end. I did find some aspects of this game extremely frustrating however, even after playing both campaigns twice. The most frustrating part of Resident Evil 2 is the bullet-sponge nature of the enemies. Bullet sponginess is all well in good in a game like Gears of War where ammo is in ample supply but in a game where conserving ammo is key it's ridiculous. There is a female zombie on the east 2nd level of the main hall that I shot with several rounds from the machine gun, sliced about four times across the face with a knife, shot another five times with my handgun before she finally went down only to have her get back up then I had to shoot her 6 more times with my handgun. Unacceptable. Not all zombies in the game are this difficult to put down, but it happens far to frequently and its frustrating. I've played through all the numbered RE games except for 3 and I've NEVER had to deal with this kind of ridiculous damage amount. It made the game less fun than it should've been. Oh and headshots? Why bother. I can score several consecutive headshots and it makes little difference in the end. Another gripe I have with RE 2 is the incredible difficulty spikes. I refuse to drop the difficulty down to assisted when I can more than handle the normal settings. That being said, when it comes to boss time, the bosses jump the difficulty about four fold. When I fought William Birkin's final form on my first playthrough I wanted to slam dunk my controller to the ground. This game has incredible pacing until you get to the bosses, than the frustration level just shoots through the roof. Speaking of bosses, here is where I give a criticism of the game and the RE Series as a whole. Not all of the games in the series are guilty of this, but the RE series LOVES to reuse the same d*mn bosses over and over and over and over and over and over again. Can't we have some variety? How many frickin' times do I have to kill William Birkin before the D-Bag finally stays dead? A little variety goes a long way. These frustrations aside, Resident Evil 2 is still an incredible game. I don't think anyone could argue the polish that has been given to this game. I'm envious of the players who grew up with the original as I can only imagine the nostalgia factor is through the roof. Every facet of this game just is polished to a fine sheen and it's just incredible. Not once did I run into any bugs and the game is not stuffed with microtransaction B.S. After playing through this and Resident Evil 7 I have never been more excited for the future of the series. This game is why I play videogames.
