Upgrading from a GRE PSR 800 this is a fantastic scanner and due to its SDR nature should only improve with time as future firmware updates and features are added. Reception and decoding are great but could still use some improvement in HF/VHF especially in WFM broadcast. The only downsides other than the cost are the large afterthought extended battery Uniden added after release (my unit came with the new battery) is cumbersome and bulkey, as well as the recessed and narrow antenna collar (used to help waterproof with the stock antenna) which makes attaching some aftermarket (EG Diamond) antennas impossible without an extender or modifying the antenna. I HIGHLY recommend buying a roll up J Pole / Slim Jim antenna from nelson_antennas (SMA Male end) this has doubled or tripled my reception on local 144/440 repeaters as well as 800mhz trunked systems and easily installs in an apartment window or rolls up for use on the go. 73 :)

Simple setup and was up and running in just a few minutes. P25 systems in my area come through crystal clear. The bundled software has a little bit of a learning curve, but once you understand the interface and options, it makes programming favorites simple. This is my first scanner purchase and I love it!

This is an AWESOME scanner and a worthy upgrade. Is it perfect? Nope. Uniden should have included some features that would have added significant value to the user. A few of those things are 1) Bluetooth 2) Ability to lockout keypad (seriously?) and 3) Ability to use AA batteries as a backup if needed. Are those all of them? Nope. But they are a few of them that irk me at the moment. The scanner overall is wonderful and amazing. The speaker is loud and clear, the reception is really great, and I pick up neighboring counties that I have never been able to pick up previously, and that’s just using the stock antenna that came with it. The programming of this scanner is extremely easy. I had considered purchasing from another retailer as they had me scared to death about the complexities of setting up the programming. It’s no sweat. Everything is pretty much already set up in the scanner. Just set up your favorites list, then enter your zip code location (in that order as one reviewer pointed out) and your set! There are a lot of customizable settings, pretty much everything by system, and it’s fun to play around with all the different settings and screen colors. The reason I ended up purchasing on Amazon was for the extended warranty. I have enough experience to know, that you never know with Uniden what you will get long-term, and it was an inexpensive peace of mind to add that warranty through Amazon. I trust that if they ever need to make good on it, they will. I did not really need to utilize the Sentinnel software... well because everything is pretty much already databased in the scanner, and it’s easy to get it set up the way you want it. My concern with Sentinnel is that we have all Mac’s, which it won’t run on. I downloaded the parallel stuff and spent hours getting it all set up, but just couldn’t get it to work. I ended up finding a super easy solution that worked easily and perfectly on my Mac, which I’ll paste below if it would be helpful to someone else. It’s important to note once again, that I really didn’t need to do anything with the Sentinnel software, but I guess it’s nice to know I have a backup of all my settings now. The instructions below may look intimidating at first, but trust me it’s really quite easy and pain-free. Here it is: 1. Go to WineBottler |*Run Windows-based Programs on a Mac and download WineBottler. I used the 1.6.1 Stable on Mavericks. It will pop up an ADFly Page. Just give it 5 seconds then click the “SKIP AD” button in the top right. (If you get any more ad pop ups just give it a few seconds and it will start downloading.) Once finished: Move “Wine.app” and “Winebotter.app” to you applications folder. 2. Download the latest Sentinel Version. BCD536HP < UnidenMan4 < TWiki and unzip it to your desktop. (or where you fell comfortable) 3. Launch “Winebottler” from you applications folder. Follow prompts for install. This will install any needed files to run the apps later. a. Click “Advanced” in the top bar. b. Select “new prefix” default c. Program to install: “select File…” and select the “Setup_BCDx36HP.msi” in the Sentinel folder on your desktop. d. check “This is an installer, execute it. e. in the “Winetricks” section, click in the search field and search for “dotnet20”. Check the MS .NET 2.0. (this will install the .net for the Sentinel to install) f. Click “Install” button. Save to your desk top as Sentinel. This is now creating a windows app that will run on your mac using “wine”. It will install the Dot Net files and you will have to agree to terms and tell it where to install. Defaults will be fine. That will finish and then Sentinel will star the install. Again, agree and save to defaults. This part does take some time so bear with it. (HINT: sometimes the installers will pop up in the background. You may have to click the doc to bring it forward to agree to the DOT NET terms etc…) Once the files are installed, the last step is to “Select Startfile” leave it on Program Files/Uniden/BCDX…… and when you click the “Sentinel” app it will launch the app. Hit OK and your done. Now double click the newly created app and your ready to run Sentinel on your mac.

The SDS-100 is Everything Uniden has advertised! The Digital Trunk Systems reception is better and Clearer than Any previous Uniden scanner that I have heard to date. The Signal Reception Range is also increased from the 536HP. That said, my only disappointment is the reception range of conventional Phase 1 & 2 and Non-Phase at ranges over 10-20 miles. The unit certainly receives the signal, but they are not nearly as clear, and also even weaker as the same locations with the 536HP, or 996P2. If you travel a lot like me, and plan to use the 100 as a scanner in your vehicle; I highly recommend that you also purchase the Uniden or Garmin GPS antenna. The GPS TOTALLY eliminates that time consuming need to preprogram your unit for your trip. I like the 100 so much that I've just ordered the SDS-200!

Two things. First, this radio absolutely rocks on digital simulcast systems. I'm a first responder and have an issued Motorola radio. The audio quality and clarity on this scanner rivals the Motorola radio. (And of course, since it's a scanner that I can program, I can listen to anything local that's not encrypted.) Number two, Webtron-X has phenomenal customer service. When there was a delay caused by FedEx, they replied promptly to my emails and took care of getting the scanner shipped to still meet the promised delivery date. If you have a digital radio system that you want to monitor, especially if it's a simulcast system, you need this radio. And I recommend ordering it from Webton-X.

This scanner is amazing! Im not sure why there are some negative reviews. I purchased it as an upgrade from my Uniden BCD436HP which is a good scanner. This one is much better! It picks up P25 trunked systems that are 40 miles away crystal clear. My BCD436HP doesn't pick up a thing on these exact stations. If you are on the fence about getting this just get it. You will not regret it.

I have only owned a few scanners and this is my first digital trunking scanner but so far I am very happy. Quick summary: - I used the "zip code" feature and was up and running 2 minutes after pulling it out of the box. With the provided antenna I was picking up chatter across multiple agencies, clear as day. I know some reported having a "deaf" scanner, but mine worked perfectly. - Mine gets warm, not hot. Even after hours of use. - Mine came with the larger battery. Battery life is "ok." I did not pay close attention but think it was around 5 hours. Form factor with the larger batter is just fine. They did a good job with the design. - The screen and info you can display is awesome. I have not used it in bright sunlight so cannot comment on that point, but I'm happy. - The manual is not great, but there are some good alternatives online. - This thing is complex. If you are not comfortable with technology, you will become frustrated quickly. I am enjoying getting to learn about it, however. In summary, I was expecting more of a headache to get it up an running. The fact that I was pulling in a dozen channels 2 minutes out of the box was impressive. I still need to upgrade the firmware and have not touched the sentinel software yet, but I am happy. Final point...more and more agencies are going full encrypted. Just factor that in before you spend $650 here. I knew what I was getting into and ended up receiving more public safety traffic than I expected. I know that will decrease over time.

great scanner out of box with supplied antenna. Works better with 800 mg antenna. Used programing for 436, made changes to sds100, works great.

First, this scanner is miles ahead of the Uniden 436 series scanner. It has a good customizable color screen. It has a loud speaker. It has a real liion battery that you can charge while using the scanner *gasp*. It performs as you would expect a real scanner to on digital and simulcast systems. Is it as good as the dispatch pagers (Unication G5) set to a limited set of channels? No, but you wouldn't expect it to be as it was designed to scan a much larger number of frequencies. The location based site scanning is amazing. Learn to use it! If you're on a simulcast system that has a lot of sites (repeaters), be sure to enable the location based scanning in your Favorites list, and then set your current location, in that order. This really cuts down on not catching the beginning of traffic. The close call alerts are really neat as well. I felt quite sleuthy the first time my scanner beeped at me and began playing audio from nearby police units talking on simplex analog, all automatically. But Uniden, why is this scanner such a thicc boi? Not a very efficient shape or design, especially as far as the battery shape goes. It does feel ok in the hand though. Certainly feels more commercial than the 436 series. Good luck getting it to stay in a phone mount in your vehicle. Good luck not bumping into every door frame and corner if you're cool like me and wear it on your belt.

It's easy to use and I'm glad I got it. It's definitely not the cheapest scanner out there and I'm a little annoyed that you have to pay extra for DMR but it's the best scanner I have owned and enjoy it a lot.
