I LOVE this butterfly habitat!! I had seen smaller ones, but this 36" is tall enough for a tall milkweed plant. I had caterpillars on the milkweed I had planted, but the birds were getting them. So now I can zip them safely inside the habitat, safe from birds. Plus I'm able to watch them through all stages from egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to beautiful Monarch. The habitat also protects the emerging butterfly from birds who can prey upon them before they are ready to fly. Once they are flying around inside the habitat, I release them. This habitat is perfect for the classroom. I will be researching raising other species and plan to build an 8x8 foot butterfly house using a screened e-z up style canopy. I am a happy butterfly mom!!!

Great for raising butterflies! I have purchased several of these. What I like best about the larger ones is that I can place a very large potted milkweed plant inside and also the bottom of the cage is plastic and cleans up easily. The quality of the cage is excellent. I highly recommend it!

Couldn’t be happier with the size. The beauty of this is the versatility in plant space when it’s standing upright or laying it on its side. I raise Monarchs and have had upto 60 caterpillars in it. Upright I had as many as 6 one gallon milkweed plants that were 3 feet tall and it was still very roomy. On its side, I fit upto three bushy 5 gallon milkweed plants with lots of extra room. The only thing was the zipper gets stuck on one side. However, that seems to be a common problem with multiple manufacturers. Please make better quality zipper! I’ve had this habitat for a few weeks and have already ordered another.

Love the size of this, as well as one side that is a plastic viewing window! I currently have two good sized pots of dill ( and I could easily fit more!) inside, with 15 swallowtail butterfly caterpillars! I am getting another for milkweed plants to grow Monarch butterflies. So happy with my purchase!

I purchased this habitat to raise swallowtail butterflies. 2018 is my fourth summer raising swallowtails. In the past, I placed the caterpillars in a raised herb bed, covered by bird netting. During my second summer, I discovered the cardinals had figured out how to jump onto the top of the netting, lowering it enough to snatch the caterpillars off of the fennel plants. Caterpillars crawled away to pupate; I found only one chrysalis in three summers. This habitat, however, protects butterfly eggs, caterpillars, and chrysales from birds, wasps, and other predators. The mesh is so fine that it even keeps the smallest spider mites and tiniest insects from gaining access. The zippered door provides easy access to potted plants, caterpillars, and butterflies. The plastic window allows excellent viewing and protection from wind as well. With this habitat, I can observe caterpillars eat, grow, and pupate; I can also watch each chrysalis change daily until the butterfly emerges. Butterflies can cling easily to mesh sides or ceiling while their wings unfurl and dry. Sturdy, this habitat held up well in a heavy down-pour. It's easy to clean--just remove the potted plants (with any caterpillars and chrysales) and sweep gently with a small broom and dustpan. Wipe floor clean with a damp paper towel. (Remember not to leave the caterpillars and chrysales unattended while they are outside of the habitat; the birds will swoop in and devour them.) This habitat is an excellent value that has improved my butterfly experience this fourth summer considerably; I highly recommend this habitat for raising swallowtails. (N.B. Although this was intended to be used with tall milkweed plants, I flipped it on it's side and it is now holding 57 caterpillars and 10 chrysalis. I can think of all kinds of accessories to go in here! I think the maker of this needs to create the sideways version. There isn't one out there that I can find - and get a hold of me for accessory ideas :) Love it Love it.

I've been raising monarchs for 2 years in a very crude plastic tote covered with a screen. This mesh cage has a lot more space & is easier to access without endangering the butterfly at various stages. I wish the plastic panel was a little easier to see through but I'm not sure what the solution would be-it is better for larger caterpillars & butterflies but no good for eggs and days old caterpillars. I would recommend this!

As recent retirees my wife and I are looking for new and interesting hobbies. A friend of ours mentioned that he was raising Monarch Butterflies and offered to start us off with some milkweed plants. Milkweed are host plants and as the name suggests they are weeds and grow very rapidly. The host plant gets consumed by the caterpillars which are the second stage after eggs. They then become pupae which are shown in my pictures that also depict the Restcloud Habitat. After the pupae have about 6 days to mature the adult butterfly emerges. It's all an amazing process and highly recommended for anyone who loves nature. I just wish we had some grandchildren to share it with. We started out with a makeshift situation using some mesh laundry baskets to keep the milkweed in but that turned out to be too small and not a satisfactory way of doing things. My wife said it was crazy to spend $30 for a habitat but I just said to her "Wait and see. This is the best way of doing it." Once we got the habitat we were very pleased with it. I recommend the large one which is 3 feet tall and can accommodate the milkweed when fully grown. Right now we have 6 caterpillars about to form their pupae and one pupae hanging down from the netting. The habitat allows for easy viewing as it has a clear plastic front and the side panel has a full zipper that lets you open and shut it to water your milkweed and eventually free your butterflies. Great product. Well made and a very fair price. Highly recommended.

I bought this large habitat (and a similar smaller one) because of the recent additional rains brought up north from the Tropical Storms this 2018 season. We rescued 12+ Monarch Caterpillars, bringing them inside with swamp milkweed and put it all under sun lamps for warmth. So far, 5 have emerged healthy and were set free on sunny days. What a thrill to see them wing their way into the blue sky. I wish we'd bought these habitats a few years ago and highly recommend them. Very light weight, probably for moving, so we put a couple of large flat stones in the bottom to hold it in place when no plants are inside. It has a long zipper, the length of 3 sides and 2 zipper pulls that meet in the middle for wherever you wish it to begin or end, and a plastic bottom to guard against liquid leaking along with an easy fold for storage. Even though you'll probably never get it back to the small folded shipped shape, one side will fold inward into the opposite corner so it becomes fairly flat. Cleans easy with a good hosing.

Currently have aprox. 7 Monarchs in chrysalis, J's (what I call anchoring), 2 getting fat, and 2 still small. 5 Black Swallowtails getting fat.
