Amazingly good. Great hardware. Use other (free) software. Superb value.
This is a stunningly good laser for the money. Actually, it seems to be a great laser when compared with those 5x or more in price. It's a great value and it works. I've used a lot of laser engravers and this one performs well. We have now engraved several hundred switch and outlet plates and other items and the laser continues to work well, stay aligned, and work just like when it was new. I purchased the model with the digital power control, which I recommend, because it allows you to get repeatable, reliable, consistent engravings from session to session. Most of the time I use 30% to 50% power at full speed. I have one wish, and that is for an adjustable height platform. That would allow the object being engraved to be set at the correct height so that the beam is in focus. (The distance from the moving head and the surface being cut is critical because the head is focused for one particular distance.) It's understandable that an adjustable cutting table isn't included, but it would be nice to have an affordable option. Now, a few helpful tips: 1) Throw the software that comes with it away. Don't bother. It's horrible software and we never got it to work. Use Inkscape (free) and K40 Whisperer (free). They have great user interfaces, they work well together and with this laser. They are free. And, they know how to drive this laser perfectly, since it uses the industry standard K40 controller. 2) Buy a pair of laser safety goggles and use them. ($40 to $50). There are light leaks in the laser casing, and I am distrustful of the protection the window offers since it isn't indicated. The advise to use laser goggles applies to ALL laser engravers. Honeywell makes the best ones, I think. Turn the red laser power switch OFF anytime the door is open. This is a powerful, serious laser. 3) Absolutely use distilled water for the cooling. As with all lasers, if you run them without coolant the tube will overheat and fail. Change the distilled water every week or two. You can buy distilled water at your grocery for $1. 4) Vent the laser outside. The cutting gasses can be noxious and if you cut PVC they are poisonous (Cyanide). Vent it so that the gasses don't come back inside. Really. Do it! 5) I added air assist. You can get air assist nozzles for $10 and a large aquarium air pump can be used. It will blow any residue away and give you a cleaner cut. Air assist isn't strictly necessary, but it is a good thing. 6) Remember, with all lasers you cannot cut reflective metals like brass or aluminum. You should not cut PVC because the gas contains cyanide (it works, but you need good venting and the gas is highly corrosive.)

LOVE IT!
Before Morphon Laser Engraver 40W CO2 Laser Engraving Machine 12" x 8"(300 x 200mm) Laser Cutting Machine with Exhaust Fan USB Port(40W 300x200), I was using a regular Laser Engraver 38W CO2 Laser Engraving Machine 12" x 8"(300 x 200mm) Laser Cutting Machine without Exhaust Fan USB Port(40W 300x200). What a fool I was. So happy I bought this, you should too!
