I've owned nothing but HP printers in the past & after the last one died, I refused to ever buy another product from them again. This left me with limited options since I was shopping on a budget for a wireless, color, laser printer. Luckily, this Brother printer came to the rescue. First off, it arrived almost a week early which is always a plus. Secondly, it was packed great with shaped styro foam pieces inside so the product was flawless when I received it. Installing the toner cartridges was ridiculously simple, as easy as plugging a plug into an outlet. Next, the wireless set up was a breeze, <5 mins total. Note: you will need to know information about your network to input into the printer for wireless set up such as the network name, password and a few other configuration #'s (like the DNS or IP can't recall which or if both) so be sure to write those down in advance. Also, make sure you have some printer paper in advance b/c once set up is complete it will want to print a test page & Brother doesn;t include any paper for this task. Once the wireless set up was complete, the Brother printer instantly recognized the wifi network, and my PC instantly recognized the printer. Brother includes a CD with drivers for the printer which you'll install AFTER the wireless set up mentioned above and they install lightning fast. From here, print at will! I set the printer up in a spare bedroom away from my PC, and I'm happy to report the Brother prints flawlessly. The color looks great to me, not top notch photo lab quality but it's more than satisfactory for backgrounds, pictures and anything I've asked it to do. The printer goes into deep sleep mode to conserve power when not in use and springs to life when you fire out a print request. I cannot comment on the sound b/c of it's location, but it is in the room next to the PC and I never hear a peep for what it's worth. Overall, I have zero complaints and all praise for this product. The only gripe I might have is that it doesn't come with any paper lol.

I bought this laser printer to replace an inkjet printer that I have used for years. While investigating the new purchase, I discovered that at most retailers, it is less expensive to buy a new inkjet printer and the not-quite-full-size cartridge it comes with than to buy two full size replacement cartridges. That being the case, and the fact that I already have six or seven old inkjet printers in my storage facility collecting dust, I decided to change the way I print. I bought a laser printer. Yes, the replacement cartridges will be more expensive when I need to buy one, but I really have about 2,500 pages until that happens. I do not do much printing, so that will last a very, very long time. And, unlike an inkjet printer, the ink is not used to keep the jets clear - there are no jets! So I am using the material in the printer cartridge for the purpose I need...to print. If you can swing the extra expense and are tired of regularly contributing to HP's very lucrative revenue stream, consider buying a laser printer next time. I am happy I did.

It's great. Sure there is a high start up cost, but due to my high volume of printing, I have probably already saved 50 dollars that I would've spent on a printer cartridge with the hp inkjet printer my parents have in just 1 week. But compared to the hp the lack of scanning and copying capabilities were a tradeoff that I was more than willing to give up. And so for you, it is going to come down to what you need in your office. _____ After using it for a while, I think it is important to be specific. You have to know what you are doing when it comes to this printer. I have had connectivity issues from time to time, but I am still satisifed by the printer. I suppose it is also important to mention, I was aware of these things others mentioned before buying it: no automatic double sided printing. no scanning no copying cost of parts mediocre quality of print. I also know I didn't need to print labels. Because, I only use this printer to print documents to read in color and b/w for academic related work. It's great in that it does its one job really well and cheaply.

Very pleased with the print quality and general air-print operation. BUT...the toner low level indicator is INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING. We had to replace the initial cartridges as expected but started getting "Toner Low" warnings after just a couple of months. Went online and discovered a 'Cheat Code' to reset the toner levels. Entered the code in the machine and have been using the same toner cartridges for the past 7 month with NO degradation in color or brightness. I am convinced the programming is setup to sell toner, expensive toner, to unsuspecting owners. Check out this link: http://www.daycounter.com/LabBook/HL-3070-Low-Toner.phtml

Update: I have now had to replace all the toner that came in the machine, but I’m pleased as to how much I got out of them! The black went first about two weeks ago, and now I just had to buy the three colors. I’ve been through roughly 3000 prints now! I just got this printer today and I put it to the test! Setup was very easy, took maybe 15 minutes but that’s mostly because my internet is super slow. I’ve printed about 300 pages today and it is so fast!! My old HP Envy 4500 claimed to print 17ppm and this one prints 19ppm. Well I printed 48 pages on this in the same time I would have printed maybe 4-5 pages on the HP! So far it hasn’t lost WiFi connection at all and it has gone into deep sleep many times throughout the day with no problem waking up. I’ve printed from both my computer and iPhone with no problems at all. So far I am loving this printer!!! I did notice I’m the only one that has left a review for the new model so maybe they have fixed all the issues the older model was having? Thus far I have to admit that this is by far the best printer I’ve ever had! No paper jams, fast printing, and as far as quality- it’s better than the old printer but I have so far only printed out curriculum materials for school. If your on the fence I’d say get it!! It’s now a week later and I’m running low on black toner after printing close to 2000 pages! Considering the yield is 1400 pages on the toner it came with and it’s still printing that’s awesome! I did order another black but won’t replace it until it’s completely empty.

UPDATE: I can't believe my original toner cartridges are still going! Simply amazing. I bought an entire extra set because I thought I would need it after these ones that came with the printer. Nope, I'm still using them. The color is really nice (you'll never get as rich as inkjet of course), and it's a workhorse! I print probably 5-10 very graphic and ink-rich printouts a day, and it just never seems to run out! So glad I switched from inkjet. Old review: I'm going to come back in 6 months and rewrite this review, because printers in general have a big problem with longevity. BUT that being said, I really like this Brother so far. Took about 10 minutes to set up, not a big deal. The print quality I would give a B+. It's not perfect and not going to get blacks like an inkjet, but for the price it's great, that's why I kept it at 5 stars. I've made about fifteen 1/4 page prints, and the starter cartridges are still going. The only problem I've encountered is I tried to put in a relatively thick photo paper, a 4x6 through the feeder, and it wouldn't accept it. So if you're trying to do photo quality pictures, this is not the printer for you. But besides that, I think this is going to be a great office printer.

Packing and shipping speed was excellent. Product arrived as described and setup took me about 15-20 minutes. My prior printer was an HP color LaserJet 2600n. But the drum finally started showing its age. So, I replaced it with this LED printer. LED printers, like laser printers, use "toner" not "ink." They just work differently. LED printers have fewer moving parts. This makes it pretty quiet while running. And fewer moving parts also means there's less to "wear out" (less down-time for repairs, if needed). According to my research, this printer "will" accept non-OEM replacement cartridges. But read the fine print of the warranty. As soon as you start using non-OEM cartridges, you void the warranty. So, at least during the warranty period, you should use OEM. Personally, I'd probably use OEM cartridges exclusively. The reviews I've seen of non-OEM compatible catridges are a mix of good and bad. Of course, if you're the owner, it's your call. One nice thing. Most modern-day printers give you "out of toner" warnings when you're really not out of toner. That's because the warnings are based on internal counters that do page-counts. If even one word appears on a page, that counts as a printed page - and brings the counter that much closer to the warning. The good news is that this printer has a "workaround" allowing owners to reset the counters back to zero ... allowing you to continue printing until you're REALLY out of toner. Here's the method: 1) Open the HL3140CW's front cover, exposing the toner cartridges. 2) While the cover is open, simultaneously press the SECURE and CANCEL buttons. A "reset" menu will appear in the LCD window on top of the printer. 3) Scroll down and select one color/yield to reset. The LCD window will show ACCEPTED when the reset is complete. 4) Close the printer cover and reboot the printer. Repeat the 4 steps above for each color whose counter you want to reset. After resetting one or more counters, it's probably a good time to order replacement cartridges for those colors (if you don't already have them). And if/when the print quality starts looking faded for any given color, that's when you know you're REALLY out of toner. One final comment. I printed out some test pages and, WOW, was I impressed. The print quality actually seems better than my HP LaserJet ever was. Text is crisp. And I printed out a full-page color photo of my son/girlfriend. Nothing short of stunning. Looks like I'll have to buy some photo-stock paper (grin).

We have had this for a few weeks, and it has been the perfect replacement to our older inkjet printer. A major reason we switched to a laser printer was because, with the inkjet printer, there would be periods of time that we would not use it, and the ink cartridges either dried up, or the nozzles got plugged up, and we'd have to replace them more frequently than we wanted. It wasn't reliable when we needed it to be, and we got fed up. This printer has a much larger footprint, but the benefits outweigh the bulk. It has a 250 page paper tray, that is tucked away at the bottom, and the print speed is amazing. Color printing is pretty sharp, although there is discrepancy between blues and blacks, but it's not a game changer. After printing 100+ pages of mixed color and text documents, I am nowhere near expecting to change out the starter toner cartridges that came with it. You can also print out a report from the printer, and it tells you how many pages you have printed, how many were monochrome, and how many color, paper type, etc, as well as toner levels, life of the drum units. It's not too complicated to figure out, and setting up wireless printing was fairly simple. For anyone looking to make the jump to a color laser printer for home use, I highly recommend this.

I really love this printer! I have an iMac, a 10+-year-old Macbook laptop, and an iPad pro, and it works flawlessly with all three. Setup took a few minutes longer than expected because the manual has instructions for setting up on a variety of platforms. My operating system (OSX 10.11) is too new for the printer drivers on the CD, so I downloaded the latest driver from the Brother website and set it up to print wirelessly. Works great with Airprint on my laptop and iPad. I am by no means a computer expert, and even I was able to do this myself. The print is crisp and the color is good. I am anticipating getting the "toner low" warnings others mentioned, so I printed off the instructions for how to solve this problem (from other reviews) and have them next to the printer for when I need them. The printer does go into "deep sleep" mode, but in my experience, when I try to print something in deep sleep mode, the printer "wakes up" within seconds and prints. Only once did it stay unresponsive, so I touched the green "go" button a couple of times and it woke up. The printer is very large and heavy. I had planned to put it on my computer desk, but it wouldn't fit. I ordered a printer stand for it, the "Safco Products 5207BL Desk Side Wire Machine Stand." It's plenty big, sturdy and has room for paper and toner on lower shelves. I had hesitated for a long time to buy this printer based on the negative reviews, but I'm glad I gave it a try. I'm very happy with my purchase.
