New technology worth investigating

Just wanted to post more information that may be useful, rather than relying on unsubstantiated statements. Here is information from the maker of the technology behind this product... Vital Vio’s precise spectrum of light, created with our patented LED technology, initiates a photo-activation of porphyrin molecules found in microorganisms. This photo-activation leads to the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). In high doses, ROS cause irreparable damage to the cellular structure, which leads to bacterial cell death. These activated molecules are unique to bacterial cells, making this spectrum of light safe to be used around humans and animals. Vital Vio has multiple studies and reports that demonstrate the utility of the Vital Vio technology in a variety of situations, ranging from controlled laboratory settings to active trauma bays in hospitals. While some of these tests have been performed by Vital Vio for customers, other studies have been performed by independent, third-party academic sources each of which has published their results or has publications in varying stages of peer review. Seems to help slow bacteria & stuff

The light itself is easy to install just like any other LED retrofit. The normal light is very bright and has good color. The one negative is that the light doesn't have a foam rubber seal around the baffle like the one I had previously. Our use is in a can light directly above our shower, so the gasket was helpful to prevent steam and moisture getting into the can light. As for the bacteria light, the operation is simple - when you turn the light on, it defaults to the standard light. Switch it off and back on quickly, and it changes to the blue bacteria light. The blue light is less intense and it has a similar, but reduced effect of a blacklight wherein some white objects will seem to glow or hve a different color. The light is supposed to have no UV rays and be safe to look at. In our shower, we have a single piece white insert, so no issues with grout or other hard to clean areas. That said, above the insert is regular drywall and the condensation, despite having an exhaust fan, causes some mildew to form. We also get that pinkish stuff inside the shower around things like the slidng doors and on the little shelves where shampoo bottles sit. After installing this light, the spread of mildew seems to have been curbed, though it doesn't make existing mildew disappear. I wouldn't count on it even completely stopping it from forming. Our trouble area is a bit hard for the light to reach, since it gets worse the closer to the ceiling, and therefore the light doesnt have as bright or as direct lines to it. The pinkish stuff still forms, since the bottles cast shadows or otherwise hide it from the light. Therefore, you can't expect the light to be a magical contraption that keeps everything clean for you. As well, it seems to work better when left on for long periods of time rather than short bursts here and there. Take that into consideration if you can't shut the door where the light is, or if the color would bother you.

Catalina Lighting is Nothing Short of Amazing! - It Works Really Well!

This Catalina Lighting Shower Light System is nothing short of extraordinary! I have to admit I was a BIG skeptic when I first learned of this light. We live in Florida. A place that mold, mildew and bacteria loves to grow. Shower areas are always a challenge to keep free of these things. Up to now, constant cleaning with bleach and other cleaners and sprays were our only choice and with limited success. The Catalina Lighting Shower Light has changed all of this. It is amazing! Replacement of our original shower light with the Catalina Light was fast and very easy. It took me all of 5 minutes max. Once installed a flick of the light switch turns on a very bright nice white light. On its own this is a big improvement to our old light bulb. The shower area is nice and bright. Once we are done showering all that is needed is to turn off the light and back on again and the disinfecting light comes on. It alternates from the one mode to the other each time the light is switched on and off. Okay, I have to admit I really didn't expect this light to do anything other than work like a normal light. I am here to tell you not only was I wrong, I am totally amazed at how well it works to keep the shower clear of mold, mildew and I imagine bacteria. Since its install we have had zero issues with any of these! No mold or no mildew. The grout that use to turn black overnight is staying perfectly white! Once we are done showering we turn on the disinfecting light and leave it on overnight. This seems to be all that is needed to keep things nice and clean. All in all this is one of the most amazing products I've seen in a long time! It is well worth a full five stars. In fact if I could give it more I would. Well worth the money.

My Shower Light Arrived!

I am so excited and can't wait to have my husband install this in our shower! I originally bought some of the under cabinet lights for my kitchen and then when I saw another article last week from Real Simple Magazine that now there was a shower light available; without hesitation I immediately purchased it. Once it's installed I'll add some images!

got this light because of the research behind it. now i just leave it on while im at work and my family comes home to a clean shower ! definitely ordering another for the other shower we have and the under cabinet lights Ellumi has !

What's not to like?

Installed in minutes. Works to reduce the mold and bacteria in my shower when I'm not able to clean; it's constantly working behind the scenes. Standard in design. Simple product and you can 'see' that it's working with the violet mode!
