Plug and Play

I have a lap top from work that has no DVD/CD drive. I couldn't add programs, fonts, or anything. For $24.95 I got this external CD DVD +/-RW drive and solved my problem. It's light and slim. I plugged it into the USB port, and PRESTO! It did everything it was supposed to immediately. It is powered by the USB. There was no set up required. I just plugged it into the USB and was good to go.

Worked right out of the box.

I have had an Apple external CD reader to read CD's on my iMac and that piece of equipment (which was kind of pricey) would every so often read the CD, and then kick it out. Sometimes the CD would not eject except I held the unit upside down. How happy I was to purchase this for about 40% less than the Apple CD unit and it read every CD I plunked on it, even the CD's the Apple unit refused to read. I am really happy with this BIG bang for my buck.

Work great, plug and play!

This thing is great! Most laptops aren't coming with DVD players anymore, for good reason IMO. However the public library has tons of kids DVDs, people have DVD collections and CDs they might use, even if just to rip them for digital storage. I used this with a macbook air. It was detected and worked with a DVD with no intervention from me. True plug and play. Thumbs up!

Excellent External CD-ROM / DVD Drive - Windows 10 Compatible

I used this on an Acer laptop running Windows 10. It uses just a USB plug, which conveniently has a storage area on the bottom of the drive. Windows 10 recognized it immediately and I was able to use it with media. It has a light on the drive, and that works fine. The disc can also be ejected just like a built in drive via Explorer. I'm very happy with this external drive as my laptop did not come with one, and I had been using an older laptop to transfer from CD to USB Storage when necessary.

Windows 10. Works exactly as expected. This even read some old and scratched discs that I never thought would have worked.

Inexpensive Solution to An Occasional Need

I don't really know about the durability but it seems to work as described on my new iMac. While I use CDs and DVD infrequently, a CD drive is still essential. It's small enough to store in a drawer when not in use and when needed you can just plug play.

Plugs right into a Projector

My original plan was to use this External DVD player for transferring all my information from one computer to another (new) one. There are so many programs out there that say they can do it, but I haven't seen a good one yet. Until I can afford another computer, I'm using this as a back-up for everything and it gives me peace of mind. Secondly, since my laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, it's perfect for when I purchase software programs to download. Of course you can download them online but when the software is expensive, I would rather have the disk itself. The best use I've found this is for my portable projector. We purchased a screen right here on Amazon and got the projector during Prime Day. Most of the time we plug the Fire Stick right into the projector to watch Netflix and Amazon movies, but using this DVD drive, you can rent movies and watch them just like that. It beats having to connect my ancient laptop with the DVD drive that's for sure!
