A very pleasant surprise
I'm more inclined to give low reviews, since I'm picky and usually find things that annoy me. So I don't get a lot of 5 star items I end up with. Especially technology, as I've worked with computers since the early 80's and am far, far more critical of technology than the average person. I'm an Epson person, so I wasn't expecting much from this. I do have a Canon laser printer here at home but that's almost never used, I think the last time I printed anything with that was about 14 months ago. I usually use my Epsons both at home and work. Unboxing this was pretty typical - lots of tape, lots of cellophane. No different than any other printer. I like that this has a crosshatch pattern on the lid, so it is not a fingerprint magnet. That was my first pleasant surprise. If I was going to slam this on anything, it would be the ridiculously small paper tray underneath. Seriously. I will NEVER understand why another 1/2 to 1 inch in height to accommodate a real paper tray would just make printers so absolutely horrible. I won't take a star off for that though since unfortunately it seems to be the industry standard. Maybe it's that people don't print much. I don't. Other than a few things for my son for homework randomly, I may print something three or four times a year. If I print 20 pages in a year, it's a shock. And yes, even STILL, I think the paper trays need to be larger... Setup though - I can honestly say that in every make and model and type of printer I have ever set up, Mac, Windows, or IOS, nothing was this smooth and perfect and easy. Ever. Bar none, this was the absolute pinnacle of printer setup. I first set up her Macbook Air since that's what she's likely to print from the most. The "most difficult" part was typing in the URL to get to the setup page. They have a series of drawings you click "next" through showing you the prep step by step. Then you get to the connection page - in this case, it downloaded a DMG for the Mac (would've done an EXE for windows) and when I launched that, all the rest was autopilot. It found the printer automatically, no need for me to join its little ad hoc wireless or anything. It asked if I wanted it on the same wireless network the laptop was on. I said yes, and it did that. Done. That was it. Software was installed, and I was ready to print. Sent a 4x6 photo, and it printed in about 10 or 11 seconds. Then so she could print photos directly from her phone, I scanned the QR code, it took me to the download in the Apple store, downloaded. It asked if it should look for a printer when I hit the + to add a printer. I told it yes, and it found it. And again, setup done. I love that with that app you can easily scan to your phone, it will then give you the option to save the scan as a PDF or a JPG. Then you can do what you want with it, send it off, save it, etc... Easier than any other mobile printing software I've ever used. Scanning worked well, no duplex scanning but that's fine. It does duplex print, and even the initial test prints did both sides of the paper. Print looks very nice, about the highest quality I've seen for an inkjet, right there on par with my Epson that I love. Photos printed quickly and easily, and the scanner has been flawless whether from the Mac or from her iPhone. My son loves the red printer, thinks it's the coolest printer he's ever seen since his favorite color is red. I also like that the tray extends automatically. I had an Epson that did that, but the first model wouldn't retract it, and pushing it back in felt like you were grinding gears. The next Epson I did finally included the ability to retract, but this one just does it smoother. You can also elect to leave it extended when you power down if you're leaving print jobs in it for the time being. The red one was half the price of the black one as of the time of this writing, so that's an absolute steal. If it weren't for the fact that my Epson doesn't use ink cartridges but actual ink tanks, I'd be tempted to get another of these for myself. So at half the list price, to get the printer that has the very easiest setup I've ever seen? No brainer, this is the printer you've been looking for.

Does everything I need and does it well
So I set out to look for a mid range All In One printer that printed photos well, had a good scanner, worked wirelessly and could print to from iPhone/iPad. It was driving me crazy looking through the options and finding it almost impossible to find one people didn't hate in some way or another! Then I found this on the Canon website and it was so new people didn't have chance to hate it yet! The few ratings it had on Amazon were mostly 5 Star....so.... given it was only a $100 I figured it was worth a punt. And, I've had it 5 days and its exactly as advertised. Print quality is very good, prints photos very nicely, has duplex printing which is a big paper saver, a rear tray which you can load with photo paper which saves the hassle of swapping out plain paper and photo paper whenever you want to print photos. It also works on my Wifi network which is a HUGE plus because my last printer refused to connect unless i switched off the security. And it prints from my iPhone and iPad! RESULT! As I say, it's only been 5 days but right now I'm very happy.

Decent Printer
I am using this product for my home office and it's more compact than I imagined. This is not a bad thing as it fits beside my desk and is not bulky. The setup was not difficult at all and as for any network connection setup, I had no issue whatsoever. I will say that instead of using the SSID instructions on the manual CD, I just used the WPS option on the printer itself and that worked faster than the manual way. So far, there have been no issues in print quality and the quiet mode helps with the noise. The ink does lower noticeably when I ran a few test prints, so if this is for people who print a lot, then I would choose another printer. However, if you're more of a home user that does not need to print daily then this printer is for you.

Fantastic upgrade for older printers
After reading so many negative reviews below, I felt I needed to write my own because I love this little red guy I got on Black Friday. It replaced my 5 year old Pixma 3000 series and it simply blows it out of the water on everything: - Printing is much faster and the Wi-Fi data transfer happens much faster - It feels much more responsive - The color quality is wonderful (pictures and documents) - It's quieter than the older printer I felt like I was rolling the dice on this printer's purchase, but I'm thrilled with it. I suspect that either a bunch of people got a lemon, or they simply can't follow basic instructions or don't know basic networking to set up the devices. Some people reported issues with Wi-Fi setup - my router has two networks (one on 2.4 and the other on 5Gig) - I had to change my PC's network from 5G and downgraded it to 2.4G as this printer doesn't work on the AC protocol, but does on N. Once I did that, and went to the link from the user manual, the setup was flawless on my PC. I don't particularly care for the software the Canon offers, nor do I appreciate the attempts at getting me to agree to send anonymous data to them, but other than that, this is a fantastic printer and a much needed upgrade to my old unit. Plus it looks great in red. Another review said it was extremely loud - this is simply not my experience. Lemon? So, wanted to set the record straight because I almost didn't buy this printer because of the negative reviews. My only dislike is that there are a lot of pieces to this printer, and all of them are plastic which give it a slightly flimsy feel. But since it's a sub-$100 printer, I really can't fault it for it. It doesn't impact performance - just don't know how long the parts will last without breaking. Hope this review helps those looking at getting it.

FINALLY, A HOME PRINTER THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!
Finally, a home printer that works!! Until now, I have had the worst luck with basic, color, home printers ; bad quality printing and replacement ink cartridges that don’t work (even the brand name ones). This Canon PIXMA printer was easy to set up, easy for my iPhone and iPad to find, and excellent quality for printing recipes, flight/travel/order confirmations, and the occasional photo!!! I didn’t order it for photo printing, but tried one out for fun and it is like high-quality photo processing! The last home printer I had would blur lines every inch or so, so I couldn’t count on it at all. With this Canon, we were able to print out our Passport renewal forms. The ink has lasted OK, considering the excellent quality, especially for the included ink. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Great printer, much improved over the old Pixma
I did a lot of research trying to find a replacement for my Canon Pixma MG7500 series which died too soon. I almost abandoned Canon but took a chance on this printer and I'm so glad I did. This printer is better in every way than my old Pixma: - the print quality is far better for both photos and text, photos look amazing - it's faster, - it's quieter, - the rear tray and photo tray make printing headshots and photos easier (no sharing with regular paper), - the network is stable especially with my mac/iOS household. No more turning it off and on after if falls asleep. - the touch panel is faster and better designed. It's nice to see that Canon improved on everything that was wrong on the last generation of Pixma printers. Highly recommend.

A great replacement for my old Pixma - But with VERY expensive inks
This is admittedly a great 6-ink printer, if one cares for good quality output. But the OEM ink cartridges are waaaay to expensive to justify. The generic 281XXL cartridges (from Greenbox or Starink) are far more reasonably priced and they produce just a good an output. The family has used this printer now for over 4 months and we all are very pleased with it.

The Perfect Home Printer
I adore this printer. I've been through a couple of Bluetooth printers in the last year, so I didn't mind investing this time around for a quality product. The touch screen interface is extremely user friendly and so was the entire set up process. My personal favorite feature is that there are two different paper feeds. I have not had any issues with connectivity, printing, or paper jams. Prints both black and color quickly.

Amazing print fidelity - many features!
Well, I've only used this new printer for one day, but I worked the hell out of it. I printed hundreds of ID cards, using the CD printing option, and a special tray. Even very small pictures on the cards showed up as crystal clear. I like the individual ink tanks, and everything seems to be as high-quality as the Canon camera I had bought before the digital age. It has a paper tray, a back feedthru, a flatbed scanner, and the aforementioned special adapter features. A nice big touch-screen tops it all off. It's hard to believe you can get such a piece of tech jewelry for that price.

Super easy to use and set up & great for photos!
Bought this for my wife who is technology challenged but loves to print here open photos and just didn't have any success printing photos from the new ink tank Epson I bought for general printing and for here for photos, it was a nightmare for either of us to figure out and use for photos. So after research and reading three reviews I bought this printer for her hoping it would be used friendly and would be something she could easily use. WOW was it ever... I tried it first or of the box and in literally a few minutes it was dessert up and I was printing photos from my phone wirelessly! It was so easy to use I called my wife in showed her how to use it in 5 minutes and she had used it every since.
