Firmer than expected... company aims to please

Update: The company contacted me after reading my initial review below. They sent me a free mattress topper of my choice to help me be more comfortable. The topper is helping and has made the bed into what I was hoping for. You can't beat their customer service. It helps to have a company so willing to work with you to ensure your comfort. Makes me feel a lot better about buying a mattress online. Cliff notes: Nicely made mattress, firmer than expected. If you like something really firm with a little give this is for you, if not I would recommend a thicker, more plush mattress, maybe 14-16 inches. Or, you could get the 10 inch and add a topper if you need more plushness. Cooling gel foam=awesome. Original review: I bought this mattress to replace a popular air mattress brand I've had roughly seven years. I'm tired of spending thousands of dollars on mattresses that don't last. I was hoping for support, yet cushion for my joints. I prefer a medium-firm mattress for my back, but have trouble with my arms and legs going numb due to pressure on my joints. For reference, I am 5'2 and 110 lbs. I did extensive research and settled on this mattress, and while it does help my issues, it does not provide the pressure relief I was hoping for. The top layer of foam is actually quite firm, I was hoping for a little more cushion and give. I am still tossing and turning due to limbs going numb. It is made out of top quality foam to rival more expensive brands, but the top layer just isn't as soft, but for the price I really shouldn't complain! On a side note, the mattress expanded fully and then some within 6 hours. It's actually about 10.5 inches tall. The odor wasn't bad- I have severe allergies and asthma and it didn't bother me at all. I did unpackage it a few hours after receiving the package, I have read that letting them sit boxed up may cause them not to properly inflate. The gel memory foam definitely lives up to the hype of regulating temperatures. I would always go to bed freezing, then wake up hot and take off layers, then wake up freezing again, add more blankets, repeat. I actually don't do that in this bed.

A few months later...

I cannot vouch for the durability of this mattress because we have been sleeping on it for a relatively short time. I can say that it arrived fully in tact and unpacking it was easy. Very simple instruction are included. Be careful not to cut the mattress as you slit open the plastic vacuum packing. We both like our mattress FIRM. And this mattress was firm. It does have that nice layer of latex, so that allows just enough top softness to allow you to settle in nicely as you lay down. You can sleep on your side, yet there is enough firmness there to prevent you from sinking too deeply into the mattress. UPDATE(ALMOST TWO YEARS LATER!) Me and my wife are still in love with this mattress. We also have two vented latex foam pillows we love. I think it has "broken in" meaning the latex foam has settled into a soft yet firm top. Just enough give to contour your body, yet not allow you to sink too deeply into the mattress. The 3 inch layer of latex really does work well together with the very firm foam underlay. Together they provide a very good firm and comfortable bed. In summer I do not feel the mattress retains too much heat and in the winter I definitely do not notice that my bed is cold...we use great blankets. I just got back from a year in South Korea and I missed this mattress(and the lady that shares it with me of course). I don't know if I will remember to come back in ten years and let you know how this works out. But thus far, a good purchase. The "new mattress smell" is definitely there. If you follow the instructions, and let it air out for 48 hours, that should not be an issue. This mattress is nice and plush, just as they say. Full 10 inches. Very good support. We have a wood frame bed with a full set of slats, which is what this mattress really needs. The cover that comes on the mattress is nice and soft and appears well made and durable. For the price, we are pleased with this mattress. If it last even half as long is the warranty, we would be well pleased. Far better than a coil spring mattress in the same price class. There are many foam mattresses on the market. I suggest you research carefully before choosing the type you will buy. We wanted a firm mattress with a cool feel for the warm summers. This one fit our needs exactly. Not all foam mattresses are the same. Memory foam has its disadvantages. So does latex. But they all have advantages. You MUST consider the benefits and pitfalls of each one before you buy. UPDATE: Now after almost 4 years I was writing another review and I thought it would be a good time to update my review here. My wife has started complaining about my BED FRAME. Not the mattress!! She wants me to update the FRAME! The mattress continues to give us great comfort and rest. Now over the years we have had this mattress we have stayed at other people's homes and hotels..even slept for a week on a cruise ship. Every time, when we return home, one of us always comments on how good it is to come back to our bed. This thing is comfortable. NO SPRINGS to poke through and the latex layer with it's firm underlay continues to prove how comfortable and durable it is. At this point I must say...this mattress is an outstanding purchase for a firm mattress want. Now I gotta go take a nap!

Good bang for the buck, slept like a baby on the first night.

I will be adding to this as time goes on, but I installed bed on New Year's Eve. I removed the mattress from the box and placed it on the platform. Logically the simplest way to unroll the compressed mattress would have it upside down, so you would need to unroll it from underneath (it will make sense when you're doing it) Remove the plastic wrapping and the mattress will start to expand, so make sure you have it in place when this starts to happen. I let it sit there for 12 hours, and yes it stunk for a little while but the smell went away fairly quickly. My one disappointment is that it expanded to the full 10 inches. The first night sleep, I slept like a baby. The mattress is nice and firm, but don't be fooled you sink into the top a tiny bit so it is super comfortable. If it stays this firm, I will be very happy with it. A lot of reviews give this mattress at 7 out of 10 on firmness, well I'm saying 8 or even 8 1/2 but I think once its all worked in it will be a 7 or 8. I am coming from a Dormia mattress so I am familiar with memory foam. For the money I think it is a solid buy. 25 year warranty and yes there is a phone number to call.888.975.8243 Like I said I will update this review as time goes on, but so far so good. ****************************************** Update May the 5th 2017 ************************************************ Now that I have had this mattress for a few months, and it has been worked in, I will say that it is an absolute delight. It did expand to a full 10 in thickness, and it is quite comfortable. It is nice and firm (which I can appreciate) You'll sink into it, and inch, inch and a half, and when you get up off the mattress you'll sink in a little bit, but it re-expands very quickly. I will keep my 5 star rating. After seem research one should rotate mattress clockwise every 3 months, I did not. I still think it is a good mattress, I just may have gotten a faulty one. ********************************************* Update April 24th, 2018 **************************************************** Emailed LUCID Warranty services, I sent to them a short letter, and a copy of my invoice from Amazon.I am now required to remove all lining from the bed, place a pole across the width of the mattress, and measure the indentation, if any (while videoing) remove the mattress and photograph bed frame, in my case platform, and send all of this to them, for them to proceed. I messaged back that I don't have a indentation, and that it just sinks in to far in the center, but this is there procedure.

My review would be 4.6 out of 5 if I had the option. First and foremost I am familiar with memory foam mattress. It does take a little bit time getting used too. Once the 48hrs has passed, when you lay on the mattress you will only sink in 1/2 inch to 1 inch. I waited the 48hrs and I can say it is worth the wait. When I first received the mattress it was folded up in a decent size box (roughly 5-6ft tall box). Upon removing the mattress from the box I can say it was only 4in thick. I lay it on a flat surface and let it rise. After 1hr it was 7.5inches. After 12hrs it was almost 9inches. At 48hrs it was 10inches, but only in the middle. At the very corners they are 8.6inches. This memory foam mattress is not plush but it is not very firm. It is on the medium side which is perfect. But on the edges it will sink in when you sit. The sleep on this mattress is amazing and will have you sleeping like a baby. I am a back and side sleeper and I haven't had an issue sleeping in either position, make sure you have the right pillow for back and side sleepers or you will have back and neck pain. The mattress rises back fairly quick. A few seconds and the mattress is back to its normal position. This does work on slats incase you don't have a boxboard. This is for all the couples wondering if this bed will do justice or you will sink in when getting your groove on. The mattress stays firm and still allows you to do what you have to do. Like stated before the most you will sink in is 1in. But if you are on your knees or elbows, I would say 1-2in. It does take some getting used to but nothing drastic. Overall I would recommend this mattress. I would like if the corners would rise to 10inches. I guess maybe with time. I also recommend getting the noisless waterproof mattress protector to prolong the life of the mattress.

Didn't expand to 10 inches, but they remedied the problem asap

*UPDATE* I happened to get a defective mattress, which is rare as you can see by all the good reviews, but Linenspa's customer service was excellent and fixed the problem with a replacement right away. I'm now highly satisfied and they just gained a new lifelong customer. Customer service is very important when you buy anything online, and they really did a great job. Now I might also be buying my mom the same mattress in a queen size. I had looked at the 8 inch and 10 inch but read the 10 inch would be softer, so I spent the extra money and went with the 10 inch. Well, this bed only expanded to 8 inches. They say to stay off of it and let it expand for 48 hours, it's been 49 and a half hours and I just measured a hair over 8 inches. I even checked the box to make sure it said 10, but with the case being loose and baggy (Not tightly fitted like the pic), I know it's that the mattress didn't expand fully. I sat on it and it feels pretty soft, so I'm going to just deal with it. I think maybe I should have saved the money and gotten the 8 inch, but then it might have only expanded to 6. I will update this review once I've slept on it or if anything improves.

WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER BED!

I bought that mattress for myself & my husband I did a lot of research on the best kind to get but was still scared to purchase one online without trying it first so I mainly went with this one because of the price and a Facebook friend said she bough one of these for her and her husband and they loved it! Boy for once I'm so glad I listened to someone I knows opinion instead of going off of research studies this bed for us is fantastic!!!!!!!! I wanted to wait until we slept on it for while before I did a review well it's been about three weeks now and we are still loving it my husband tells me very night before we fall asleep what I good job I did picking out this mattress. It's a firm mattress yes but not in a bad way because my husband can't stand what I would call a normal firm mattress, it's kind of hard to describe it's firm at first but it forms to you so you don't notice it so much if that makes since. I would without a doubt buy another one of these and would recommend to anyone how wants a great product hope this review helped!

Great firm feel but only 9"! Order up a size for true thickness you are looking for.

Love everything about this latex 10 inch matress. It is heavy, so required two of us to carry it inside. Place it on your platform before unwrapping and be sure the Lucid logo is at the foot of the bed. Then unroll from the UNDERNEATH, then you will have the matress right side up and won't need to flip it! It is a firm support with the top layer of foam giving it a great feel. You do not sink into it like other foam beds. Love it! The one negative issue I have is the advertised 10". The literature does state this measurement is approximate, but mine is a full one inch less, measuring no more than 9". And the corners are only 8.5". This is after waiting 50 hours for the matress to fully expand. You can see by the photo how baggy the cover is due to the matress no being the full expanded size. Although I love this matress, I would order one size thicker than you really want, just to make sure the end result is closer to your need.

Best mattress I've ever had

Update 11/2018: after 2 years of sleeping on this mattress, I can say that it is still really great. However, with regular use it has definitely lost some of its 'firmness' over time and become softer. Unlike super soft mattresses, there is no issue with 'sinking' in the middle of the bed or dents where my husband and I each sleep. For the price, I feel like I have totally gotten my money's worth. We will be replacing it when we move in about a year with another version of this same one, and moving this one to our guest room. Original Review: It's been about two months since this bad boy arrived at my doorstep, and I have nothing bad to say at all. Best mattress I have ever slept on (with the Marriott Hotels memory foam beds coming in a very close second). There was no bad odor upon unboxing. The mattress reached the full 10" size about 3 hours after opening it up. It is very firm, and hands down the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. You do not sink into it, like memory foam, but rather float on top of it as it cradles your joints in a very supportive manner. Even if the mattress only lasts us 2 years, it is worth the price and would be worth the replacement cost. People who have been sleeping on a very soft, plush pillow top bed will be in for a major adjustment (expect a few nights of neck stiffness), but it is giving me some of the best sleep of my life, even with the major joint pain I have suffered for years. I can't say it is improving my joint pain, but at least I am sleeping instead of suffering all night. The BEST feature: you cannot feel your sleeping partner moving in the bed at all. My significant other, dog, and cat can all come and go freely throughout the night with absolutely zero movement of the mattress. Like, I can sit in the bed and drink hot coffee while my 4 year old is JUMPING ON THE MATTRESS next to me, and the only risk for spill would be his flailing limbs (not the bouncing of the mattress). This thing does not bounce. The lack of bounciness does not inhibit adult "bouncing activities" either.

UPDATED, 3 MONTH, I added a LUCID Topper! This is a Wonderful LUCID cool Latex mattress that was affordable.

UPDATED REVIEW, 3 months with my new mattress, I added a LUCID 2.5" topper! I am approaching the 3 month mark with my new Lucid latex mattress and would like to give a 90 days sleep report and share my experience with the company. I am leaving my original detailed review below however do note, some of my thoughts about this fine mattress are now updated 3 months in and I have added stars to my original review so I have updated this mattress to a full five (5) stars! As you can see in my original review below, I did lots of research and decided on latex for the "cool factor". I simply can't believe just how cool latex is. NO memory foam or "cool gel" foam is as cool as latex. The issue I had with the mattress at first was I thought it may be just a very little bit firm for me the stomach sleeper but it was firm for my wife the side sleeper. She needed more padding for her hips when on her side and it did hurt her she said. I shared my thoughts with the company and a cool gel foam topper was recommended based on my needs to help make the mattress a bit softer. I researched all the Lucid offerings and decided on this 2.5" LUCID topper LUCID 2.5 Inch Gel Infused Ventilated Memory Foam Mattress Topper with Removable Tencel Blend Cover 3-Year Warranty - King Size I wanted a little more softness but my thinking is more foam is not always better as I do like a firm mattress. I considered the 2", 2.5", 3", 4" toppers but decided on the 2.5". I do think the 2.5" was the best choice for my needs, just a little softer is what I was going for and thought I may bottom out with a 2" and a 4" topper would be the softest of the soft, good for some but not me the firm mattress fan. This seller was fantastic and reached out to me and made me feel like my sleep was important! I will purchase LUCID again for the customer service factor alone. The topper arrived, came up to size in an hour and we were off to sleep. Long story short, my wife is 100% happy no with this latex mattress and the additional topper. My issue is I lost the benefit of the cool latex mattress. Its not the toppers fault as cool gel foam or memory foam is simply not as cool as latex, period. I do live on the coast in the hot south, my AC is not 100% and I have a few extra pounds so I did heat up with the added topper. Its almost November now and the house is cooling a bit and I find thinner bedding does help the heat. Before removing my thick bedding I woke up in drenching sweat between me and the topper; this was August at the beach in the hot south and my wife did have more of a winter thick comforter on top, with the latex bed alone any comforter was fine but does not work with the topper. The 2.5" topper did add I would say 15% softness to the extra firm mattress and I can live with the firmness but given a choice I do believe I prefer the firm mattress alone However, my wife prefers the added topper. As much as I like this Latex mattress I had to compromise for my partner and my thinking is with changing out to thinner bedding, sheets etc I'm okay this fall and winter for sure. Updating 3 months in, the latex mattress smell reported is now 99.9995% gone. I no longer smell it at all. FYI, the topper smell was zero in 24-48 hrs. I had the thought I my cut the topper in half and let the wife use it on her side an I go back to the mattress alone as crazy as that sounds but a shame to butcher such a fine (but hotter than latex) topper. After some time with my setup my thinking is as long as I use a thin or down feather comforter, drop the AC down just a bit I seem to be able to adapt to the added heat, however nothing like sleeping on that cool latex in the summer at the beach! It does complicate things when I could use a firm on my side and a soft on the other but that is no fault of Lucid and life is full of compromises. I do plan to give it another month and remove the topper for a night and just see if the mattress is softer as latex will get softer with time. I do wonder if adding the topper may give my mattress longer life? I do have a LUCID mattress cover as noted in my original review below but a topper could also help defend the mattress with a spill, puppy or something. Also, remember if debating the firmness of this mattress you can always make a mattress softer with a topper but you cant make a mattress firmer but a memory foam toppers it may also add some heat. If you are considering this latex mattress because of the cool factor, let me suggest you may not find a cooler mattress period. just ask yourself if everyone is okay with a very firm mattress. I do love the mattress, I do now love the company / seller, I do love the latex cool! I do love the latex quick response feel vs the memory or gel foam. My partner needed 10% softer and we have that now so I am glad I had the option to change the mattress feel with a topper.. Only thought, suggestion is it would be nice if LUCID made a Latex topper that could add a touch of softness but retain the wonderful cool factor only found in latex. latex toppers are expensive so if LUCID could bring an affordable Latex topper to market it would sell like crazy (TAKE NOTE LUCID) as affordable latex toppers simply don't exist. If you can make an affordable latex mattress, you can make an affordable latex topper and we will buy it! My thoughts are IF you and your sleeping partner both need the coolest bed in the firm to extra firm category and are on a budget looking for the best mattress for the price from a company and seller you can 100% depend on... This is your mattress! What it does...Firm and cool at a great price, this mattress does very well and I give it hight marks! ! Thanks LUCID! ORIGINAL REVIEW I researched mattresses over a year. I shopped my local mattress stores, local discount club, local big box, furniture stores and researched every online bed in a box style mattresses I could find and researched everything on Amazon only to settle on this LUCID 10" Latex mattress and this is why... Im a big guy, 238 lbs, and my wife is a plus size as well. I had an expensive $2,000 pillow top mattress and hated as it did not hold up and was way to soft for me as a stomach sleeper. I live on the coast in sub-tropical South Carolina and its HOT and humid and as a big guy, I sleep hot. I tried the Tempur mattress ( in store ) years ago and from that moment I knew a spring mattress was out this time as I had to have foam but worried about the foam heat and how long the mattress would last and I just can't pay the price of a used compact car for a mattress. My general research suggest Latex is firmer ( I like a firm mattress) and latex is very cool even cooler than cool gel foam so I thought that was a plus. Some suggest Latex may hold up better especially with a heavy person and I see a "full" Latex mattress could last forever but full Latex gets into the price of a used car again so enter the LUCID. The Lucid has base foam with Latex layer on top so I hope to get most of the Latex benefit without the full Latex price! This LUCID looks to be one if not the most affordable Latex mattress on the market. The reviews look good and the 25-year warrantee looks great and the very low cost is exactly what I was looking for. I also purchased this bed frame on Amazon as its one of the few with 3" or under slats that I see most foam mattresses suggest Zinus Upholstered Button Tufted Premium Platform Bed with less than 3 Inch spacing Wooden Slat Support, King Happy with the frame and the mattress fits well on it. I also purchased this LUCID mattress protector LUCID Super Soft Rayon from Bamboo Jersey Mattress Protector - Waterproof - Dust Mite Protection - King I highly suggest this waterproof protector as most mattress manufactures will not back the warranty if even a small stain so a protector is a must IMO. I opened the vacuum pack and placed the mattress on my new bed and watched it expand. The mattress came to size quick and I did sleep on it the first night but the smell... Okay, the smell... My research suggest Latex smells. The first day the smell was as if I had new carpet installed in the bedroom. Im on my 4th day and have left a window open 1/2" and a fan on and its better but still has a smell. My thoughts are the new carpet smell does not keep me from buying carpet and the smell of Latex paint does not keep me from painting a room so Im sure this will be fine but know what to expect. My wife responded with " I don't mind the smell...smells like a new house to me". HEAT...it has NO heat! The 1st night my wife said her feet were cold! August at the beach in the South and her feet are cold; what does that tell you about how cool this Latex mattress is! Okay, 4th day and a bit early for an exact opinion regarding firmness but to give you an idea my daughter jumped on the bed and said. "Its hard and stinks, I like the old mattress better". I do like this mattress however it is a very firm mattress, perhaps to firm... Im thinking I may need about 10% to 15% softer however, I know you can't make a mattress firmer but you can make a mattress softer so with that in mind, perhaps a foam mattress topper would improve things and make my mattress a bit softer? I may report back after a few more nights sleep.

Amazon customer support was amazing and after 30 minutes of looking into the issue ...

First off, let me state by saying there was a mix up and I was sent the wrong size, after sending the unopened box back I was told I would receive the correct size within 3 days, nearly 10 days later I contact amazon support again and turns out my purchase had been stuck in the pending stage and was not even being prepared to ship. I was beyond frustrated to be without a bed to sleep in. Amazon customer support was amazing and after 30 minutes of looking into the issue and being on hold during the process they got it resolved and said I would have the mattress by Monday.. (it was Wednesday) and Friday morning the mattress was delivered on my front door. Now, once the mattress was delivered, I opened the box and was so pleased. They supplied a letter opener type thing to open the plastic to keep you from accidentally cutting the mattress with scissors while trying to remove the plastic. One the plastic was removed the mattress starting slowing expanding and was very easy as a 5'4 female to get one the frame and set up all by myself. I am so please with this mattress and will definitely be purchasing another. 10" memory foam is soft and contouring but still firm. For this price I am beyond pleased.
