There are a lot of inexpensive yogurts in the stores but I feel I want to make my own for many reasons. It takes a little planning because the yogurt maker (also a Euro-Cuisine) needs 7 to 8 hours and I need to bring the milk up to proper temperature before adding the culture - but the end product is worth it. As soon as I open a jar of the finished product I first smell it - you don't get that smell from the store brands. This particular starter makes a 'thicker' variety like Greek yogurt and when you dip your spoon into it you see it. Then the taste - there is a tang that I've never tasted in a store brand. Most of the time I don't get around to adding any honey and grated lemon to it (my favorite) because if I start eating I can't stop. The instructions are on the back of the packets and are easy to follow. I like using whole organic milk from a local dairy so my experience is based on that - but I'm sure you get good results from low fat milk. And I have also had success with allowing the yogurt maker to work over night - then I quickly refrigerate the jars in the morning to stop the culturing process. For me it's not just about the cost it's more about the quality and sustainability of ingredients...it's food for my soul.

Outstanding product! Far better results than the Bulgarian starter I also tried. This starter makes an extremely tart, thick and tasty yoghurt with good complexity and delicious flavors. You really only need half a package to inoculate a batch and save the rest in the very good foil pouch for the next batch. I can’t recommend this wonderful product any higher. Top quality here: this is for those that seek a fantastic and tart result.

I used one small package and the Greek yogurt (after straining) was very good. A few ounces of the original yogurt was saved for the next batch. If I can get four more batches from this original batch, the culture will be a great value.

This culture makes it very easy to make yogurt - heat up the milk, add the powder, stir just a little, and wait. I found this made yogurt that was more sour than the stuff I was making before using store-bought (Nancy's) yogurt, but had a very good flavor to it. The cost is fairly high for a total of 10 batches of yogurt, but I make it last by putting aside 3 jars worth of yogurt (each batch is seven jars) that I make with this yogurt and using them as starters for new batches. Thus, using one box of this I get almost 40 batches of yogurt, rather than just ten - much more economical! I appreciate this starter not only for the flavor of the yogurt it makes, but also because it is less for me to throw away. Previously using store-bought yogurt meant I was throwing away a plastic container of yogurt for every couple batches of home-made stuff, which was quite a bit of waste.

I've been making my own yogurt for quite a while now, but was pleasantly surprised when I tried this starter. So far, it's the best I've tried, and I've tried quite a few. My yogurt sets much more quickly, and has a nice creamy texture instead of the clumping I find with some other starters. I've re-cultured five generations so far, and it's holding up wonderfully. Wonderful light fresh taste. Give it a try!

I love making homemade yogurt. Thus far not a single non-functioning batch. A prior reviewer commented that these packets need to be refrigerated - they do NOT. It is similar to bread yeast - they have an expiration date, and once you open the packet it should be refrigerated. The final product (your yogurt) is to what the instructions were referring. I make 1-2 batches per week - so easy! I can't believe I waited so long to do this. I typically save the last jar for making a new batch - have not tried more than once, but the cultures did last for a second processing. I really enjoy the flavor - tart but not too tart. Sweeten it up with jam or honey for breakfast or dessert, use lime juice/cilantro/cumin/touch of salt for a pretend "crema," use with a little parmesan for a healthy alternative alfredo, use as a soothing topping for Indian dishes, cucumber soup, and on and on. What surprised (and ticked me) most - my cat loves yogurt, and once I started making this homemade yogurt - as soon as I open the lid he is following me around with wide eyes looking for his own spoonful! Even my cat knows - homemade is best!!

This stuff produces a thick creamy consistent yogurt every time. The taste is wonderfully tangy without being sour. I'm lactose intolerant (have been for decades) and yogurt is one of the few dairy products I can eat as the culture digests the lactose to produce the yogurt. Some cultures are not as effective at this as others. Euro Cuisine Yogurt Starter has always been 100% effective in converting any lactose. I never have any problems with the milk (we always use whole organic milk) converted to yogurt by this product. We never flavor our yogurt. The flavor this culture produces is so good it's like a dessert treat. I can't get enough!

I have just started making my own yogurt.. I usually make about 3 batches a week. I do strain to make a thick Greek yogurt. I hate milk and this gives me the calcium needed for my strong bones. I start with some fruit then add the yogurt on top and drizzle some honey. What a ummmmmy breakfast. I know what I am getting because I make it myself so I know there are no added ingredients that are hidden. I sounds daunting when you first think about making your own but it really is easy. It takes a little time for it to "brew" and then strain. LOVE IT.

I received this on Monday, last, (9/8/14). The next day I made my first batch ever of yogurt. I have the Eurocuisine Yogurt Maker as well. I followed the directions on the package which gives you the exact amount of starter for the exact amount you need for the 7 cups (6 oz each) that are in the Yogurt Maker, which is very convenient. I used whole milk and heated it as directed, put the starter together with the milk and whisked it up. Then the mixture was put into the 7 individual containers and put into the yogurt maker. I left it for 8 hours and it turned out PERFECT!! It is super delicious, not too sour and not sweet, just perfect with fruit or on it's own. Yum. Hard to believe that it is ALSO so good for you!

I bought a Euro Cuisine yogurt maker back in late 2008 and used it routinely for many years. The last time I bought the Euro Cuisine culture, however, was back in 2011. About two years later, I got away from making my own yogurt. Decided to try it out again, and glad I did. The packaging and even the product itself seem to have changed a little. It's even better now. I made my first batch yesterday and it came out great. It is so much better than the yogurt I've been buying at the grocery store, even though that yogurt is Greek, organic and nonfat. But it's still too sweet and tastes more like vanilla pudding than vanilla yogurt. This homemade stuff is nice and tangy with just the right amount of sweetness to it. The yogurt firmed up very nicely (I always add a little nonfat powdered milk to ensure firmness). I'm going to have to make another batch very soon because those seven little jars will not be lasting long. Update 9-5-2017: I decided to try another brand, a brand that is often seen here and even at health food stores. Yesterday, I made a batch. I noticed it took a lot longer for the yogurt to begin to 'set' and for roughly nine hours I was worried that the yogurt culture was bad and would not work. By twelve hours, though, the milk had solidified into yogurt. Sort of. I tasted it this morning after chilling the yogurt overnight and it is bland beyond words. It's like eating pudding-milk without even much milk taste. I can't even taste the vanilla extract that I flavored the milk with. The consistency is nice, very smooth, not runny (a little bit of whey on top, not much) but it is so bland. I guess I got used to Euro Cuisine's tangy flavor. I much prefer the tangy and yes, strong flavor to this 'nothing' yogurt. I won't name the product and I didn't buy it here on Amazon although Amazon does sell it. Now I understand why some reviewers here find Euro Cuisine's yogurt culture too strong. I guess it's all about preference and what you get used to. I won't be experimenting ever again. Recommend!
