I have used Norelco shavers for almost 50 years. I always bought the average models. Not the worst and not the best. About a year ago I bought a look alike Chinese rip-off design. It delivered an inferior but adequate shave for a year and then died. This time I decided to buy the real thing. I looked at the line and decided not to be a cheapskate this time. I started at the top of the line rather than the bottom. $280 for a shaver? What? What! All the pictures showed the shaver from an angle accentuating its sleek slimness. I always felt the hand contour of the shaver to be one of its best features. I hesitated. Eventually I clicked the button. Maybe its time to try the best. After the shaver arrived I discovered that the contour handle was actually improved. After an hours charge, I attacked the three day growth of beard left after the failure of the poor imitation I had been using. After one second a knew that all the shavers I had ever owned were cripples. I experienced the best shave I have ever had. Close, comfortable, convenient, able to reach all the nooks and contours effortlessly. Everything could be made to fit nicely in the compact case with a little trial and error. I knew it was a keeper but still, $280? Then I read the manual and discovered the travel lock, the intensity setting, the battery minder, and all the monitoring and safety features that had been thoughtfully provided. This is the best engineered and designed product I have purchased in a long time. So I finally get it. I paid all that money for the best shaving experience available and 50 years of design development and engineering expertise. Looking at it that way makes it feel more worthwhile. I am going to enjoy this product almost every day for a long time to come. I am going to forget the price after the next billing cycle. I am finally at peace with my shaver.

I'll admit, this is a lot of money to spend on an electric shaver, but if you consider that most good electric shavers are over $200, another $100 or so for "the perfect shaver" isn't so bad. Sometimes I feel like I've tried every electric shaver ever made and while each has had their good points...they always come with at least one downside. I've always preferred Norelco (rotary) shavers because they do a much better job on my neck, especially in the middle, they're quieter, and they're easier to clean. But the conventional blade shavers (like the Braun) seem heavier, the motor is more powerful, and I always have the perception of it being a better quality product, which the Noreclo (even the expensive ones) seemed light and cheaply manufactured with mostly all plastic. Because of this, I've switched back and forth between the two types often. It took a long time for me to convince myself to shell out this much money for the new Norelco Prestige, but I can honestly say I don't have one bit of buyer's remorse or second thoughts about having purchased it. Simply put, this is a premium shaver! In fact, it doesn't even seem to have been built by Norelco. It has a mostly stainless steel case, feels good to hold (solid, but not too heavy like a Braun), and it's super, super quiet! It's very easy to clean, just pull off the head and rinse it and the shaver top under warm water and let it dry until you use it again. No messy cleaning stations with expensive cleaning cartridges, just simple rinsing in water. I honestly think the shave I get when using it dry is better than any shaver I've ever used (I'm 72...I've used many.) But where it really shines is when you wet your face and shave. I tried this once "after" my initial dry shave and it seriously felt almost as good as a blade shave. I'm fine with a regular dry shave, but for those special times, it's nice to know it can do an even better job. I am very pleased with this shaver and can honestly recommend it to anyone on the fence about spending a lot of money for a shaver. It's well worth it!

Great Razor. Switched from 5 blade razor to the 9000 Prestige and only two days in and great close shave. Almost comparable to a razor blade. Prior to the Prestige and 5 blade razor I used the S9000 and it wasn't bad but the constant solution change was a pain at times and was a close shave. Big difference between the 9000 and the Prestige. Prestige also feels lighter and a great quality build. Update: Wanted to provide an update on the S9000 Prestige, didn't shave for two days and this morning I shaved, excited to test just how well the NanoTech precision blades and BeardAdapt Sensor worked. While I didn't have a beard and usually at most go 4 to 5 days without shaving on long weekends, I can say the Prestige didn't let me down. No difference in time noticed from shaving every day vs 2 day growth. Smooth shave after 2 days.

I have been using Norelco razors for years, most recently a 7000 series razor. I just got the new 9820/87 and it is incredible. The booklet says give it 21 days for your skin to get used to it. But since I received this razor I have been getting the best shave ever. The device is quiet and has adjustable speeds. I bought this out of frustration that I just couldn't get a really clean shave with the 7000. But this shave is so clean I keep touching my face with delight. It also is smooth and doesn't pull. No razor burn that I was experiencing with the 7000. I am a little disappointed that there is no cleaning device, like the other models have, but maybe you don't need it. The booklet says wash with warm water. Overall, it is not inexpensive, but I am thoroughly delighted with my purchase and recommend it to all. ADD ON - I have now been using this shaver for four months. I must say it is still the best shave ever! It leaves my skin smooth and closely shaved and is very easy to use. I will never go back to the lesser models.

This shaving head is probably one of the best Philips has made - and you can tell it's a precision device when you start up your shaver from the sound - and is the perfect complement to the new Prestige model shavers. The newly designed inner retaining rings are the same as the new SH90/72 heads, with a metal reinforcing ring to stiffen them, and the outer matte finish ("Comfort") rings are the same as the 7000 Series shavers - which provide the most comfortable shave of any rotary in my opinion. The actual cutting blades and combs are completely different than the SH90 head, and seem to work well, with a nice balance between comfort and cutting efficiency. You need to allow a time for your face to adapt, per Philips' recommendation, and use a light touch, but well worth the effort. The head does provide a comfortable shave, as close or closer than the SH90 head, and approaching a blade shave in my opinion, but not quite as comfortable as the SH90 for me. And this head does in fact fit the 9700 and 9300 Series shavers, appears to be interchangeable with the SH90 heads, and seems to function fine. The head is are very slightly different in external geometry, with slightly "fatter" outer rings, but also seems to fit the 9000 Series cleaning station as well without issues. Otherwise this head provides the same shave on my 9721 as it does on my Prestige, which is to say excellent. The slightly more robust build on the Prestige, and slightly more advanced tech, may or may not be worth the switch from Philips' venerable 9000 Series to you, but you can certainly use this head on their earlier 9000 models. Recommended.

I have a 5 year old Norelco 1280x that came with the "SensoTouch 3D" RQ12/62 shaver head. The cutting blades on the RQ12/62 sucked from day 1. It would take 5-6 passes to get a decent shave. My backup razor is a cheap Norelco series 5000 with the SH50/52 shaver head. The SH50 does good job cutting, getting a decent shave in 2 passes, but it is not nearly as gentle as the RQ12 head. I recently Bought the SH98/72 head that is the replacement for their flagship series 9000 prestige razor. The SH98 head snaps right on to the RQ12 base (the bottom gear drive part). It gives a fast accurate shave like the SH50 head, but it is also gentle like the RQ12 head. The best of both worlds. Way better than the stock RQ12/62 head.

In 2015, I purchased the Philips Norelco S9721/87, Shaver. I loved it, but periodically, when I wanted a closer shave, I would use a Gillette Fusion. As time went on, the battery in the 9721 did not keep the charge as it did in the past, so I decided to try the 9000 Prestige. I just got it and tried it immediately after charging it up. All I can say is, unbelievable. I use it to shave my head and face and, as far as under my chin is concerned, it is even closer than the blade. This gave me the best shave I have ever had - and, even more astonishing, absolutely no razor burn. I love it. Worth every penny.

Smooth shave from the first time. Had a morelco about 15 years ago. Lasted about 10 years before it died. Was hesitant to spend this much money. Two weeks and no regrets. Great shave. Shave daily for work. Don’t shave on the weekends. Monday morning no problem with the days old beard.

These are quiet blades, they cut good, the best I have had from Norelco. They ship as the top-half of the head and regardless of what Phillips says they work on any SH90-based head. I asked Phillips "Will these fit my 9721?" and they answered "No" -- false! They fit perfectly.

This machine is amazing. It better than the previous one that I have been using for 5 years. Advantage to this one is that the head will have to be replaced every two years in stead of one. Using on a daily basis, takes less than two minutes for a complete dry shave. Highly Recommended !
