Excellent drive! Can’t even hear it over my near silent case and cpu fans. This will almost certainly be the last spinning disk drive I buy in my life, and I am happy to be finishing up in style.

I have used 1TB, 2TB, 3TB and now 4TB BarraCuda drives. "ALL" of them are still functioning fine. These are excellent hard drives.

Purchased a refurbished computer with all the latest specs - except for the drive. Came with an old Hitachi HHD from 2012. The HHD worked great, but it was so noisy. Not the something-wrong-with-it clicking or beeping noise. Just a louder-than-normal soft ticking whenever it would read/write - which was quite often. It may have been a normal noise for some drives, but I was not used to it - all of my drives have been quiet - including other Hitachi drives. It was to the point where I would put my computer in sleep mode or shut it down to get some quiet. Seagate to the rescue. I already had experience with Seagate external harddrives - fast and efficient. So, I purchased this, cloned it, and into the computer. Started it up - smooth, quiet, all the way. The noise is gone and it is so quiet like my old computer used to be. Very happy. Thanks again, Seagate.

Seagate is my go-to brand for hard drives. Using this one in an external RAID enclosure for backups.

If you look at this exact drive on youtube, you can find a bunch of people testing these, and on average people get about 20 MBs higher with a 7200 RPM drive, then this 5400 RPM drive - but if you look at the results you will see that even the 5400 RPM drives these days get well over 150 MBs - and peak at over 200 MBs. This isnt like the old days where a 8 Meg cache was ok, and 16 Meg cache was for the rich guy - these drives have 256 Meg caches, and that obviously helps them a ton + the platter size of todays drives is far higher, so making fast mechanical hard drives is possible - even without the need for a 7200 RPM drive. What you loose with that is alittle speed, what you gain is silence, less power draw, and less chance of failure rates. No, its not going to beat a SSD, but given the storage cost per gigabyte that the comprimise to expect - Now, you can use something like AMD's "Store MI", to greatly increase the speed of this drive, by pairing it with a SSD if you wanted speed + storage capacity without needing a second morgage on your house to do so, but if you just want raw storage - mechanical hard drives today are a hell of alot better then I remember them from just a few years ago, maybe they will surprise you too.

First off.... You don't need software to install this. I hooked it up and immediately installed Windows 10. Drive is running just fine for me now and quiet as well. Press f12 or whatever key it is to get you into your bios. From there change boot settings to boot from flash drive or CD drive where windows installation is situated from there you should be able to install into the new hard drive it will format automatically once you select yes. This method hasn't changed since Windows XP. If for some reason it isn't detected. Check your cables and power supply first before assuming it's a defective drive. Second. The drive has had many test ran on it and all have verified it is indeed a 7200 RPM drive. I suggest reporting sellers that don't abide by the rules and mislead customers with false listing descriptions. That is all.

I bought this HD so that I could clone my existing Seagate spinner. Based upon prior reviews, I downloaded the Seagate Disc Wizard software from their website onto my existing HD. I installed the new drive, and of course the computer would not recognize it. I ran Disc Wizard., Selected Add New Disc. It formatted and partitioned the new disc with no problems. Upon re-boot, the computer then recognized it. I then ran Disc Wizard again, and selected Clone Disc. It cloned the new disc perfectly. As far as I could tell, it transferred everything over to the new HD. I disconnected the old HD to make sure the new disc would boot. It did with no problems. Based upon my success, I just ordered another one.

I read lot's of negative reviews here about lack of speed and also about noise. Seeing that there are also lot's of good reviews, I still decided to give this a shot and bought myself the 5400rpm 8TB version for my system, which is a high performance gaming PC. I have a Windows Mixed Reality VR set, steering wheel/pedal etc hooked up, and tons of Steam and Steam VR games on the drive. First off, I moved a whole partition over to the new drive immediately after installation; the reason I bought this massive drive after all was lack of current storage space. The result: VERY slow sustained speeds <20mb/s, loud noises (as in heads hammering constantly), and jitter when in a VR game. I was just about to agree with all the negative reviews when I realized that perhaps I should not treat this drive like any SSD out there. Instead, I started to review in detail how my system is actually using it. As it turned out, the quick partition move (which came from a SSD) put all of these on the drive: a) parts of Windows Mixed Reality SW b) parts of Steam itself c) parts of Steam VR d) Steam and Steam VR games Like this, when starting anything Steam the system reads 4+ threads from this drive, and since it's a physical drive, the heads have to jump between sectors. That's the noise and lack of speed right there. I started moving things around, all I have on this drive now are "Consumables"--the games themselves, family movies, photos, blu-ray disk backups, etc. When ever you access this drive now, it's one focused read or write. The result=QUITE and SUSTAINED SPEEDS between 150mb/s and 185mb/s We all got spoiled with SSDs, which stay fast, even if you read multiple threads at the same time anywhere on the drive. Treat this like the HDD it is and you'll be surprised about the bang for the buck.

I picked up an 8TB version of the 5400RPM BarraCuda to hold my massive Steam library. I couldn't be happier. Some people might not like the fact that it isn't a 7200RPM drive, but if all you want it for is game, picture, video or music storage, 5400RPM is more than enough. Game load times are, quite literally, only a couple seconds longer versus a 7200RPM drive. The 5400RPM is also much more quiet than a 7200RPM drive, so if your tower is close to you, you won't notice any noise while operating. Some people might also argue that a 5400RPM drive has a better longevity over a 7200RPM drive as it doesn't have to work as hard, although, that is debatable. So far, this drive is quiet, runs cool and loads everything just as quick as a 7200RPM drive. I paid $150 for mine when it was on sale which is a steal for 8TB of space in a single drive. If you can get it for around that price, it's a monster in the price per terabyte ratio. Even priced a little higher, it's still a great drive, especially if your primary need is simply for bulk storage. Highly recommended!

Just had it for a month. the drive is inside an Inateck 3.5 Hard Drive Enclosure, Aluminum USB 3.0 Sata HDD Enclosure, FE3001and I'm getting awesome read and writing speeds IMHP. Only time will tell how long it will last. I'm currently using it as my primary photo storage/editing drive and and pleased with it. I have a 2017 21 iMac. Right now I have a portable 2.5 2TB seagate as my back up drive (used to have a MacBook Pro) but is really slow compare to this one. I will probably get another one of this with the same enclosure as my back up.
