Meater + Large BGE Weber Genesis iPhone X Ipad First off here’s the ranges I am getting in relation to the meater temp prob to the base. BGE with lid open - over 100ft line of site BGE with lid closed - Upto 40ft Weber with lid open - over 100ft line of site Weber with lid closed - upto 30ft Range from base to iOS devices iPhone - Outside over 100ft line of site iPhone - Inside around 30/40ft through brick and decking iPad - Inside around 30/40ft through brick and decking iPhone - using IPad as base station for cloud unlimited range I have checked accuracy of the meater+ by boiling in water and it’s within 1-2f of my other thermometers in boiling water. I have included some screen shots compared to my Igrill temps as a comparison. You do get a warning on the meater+ at boiling water temps but it caused no issue on accuracy. Now for my findings It’s gonna take some getting used to compared to my other system but shouldn’t take too long. What I do like is the estimated time and ambiant temps. The problem I had was I was cooking from the information on the ambiant temps on the BGE thermometer which were different by about 20f-30f to the ambiant temps around the meater so was expecting the meat to cook slower but it cooked faster than expected but the meat come out perfect paying attention to the time to cook and ambiant temps so I shut the egg down for an hr and then seared at the end of the cook and it was the best rib roast I have had to date. It was hard to trust the meater readings at first though but they were spot on and saved the cook being finished early. I also liked the way I could monitor from anywhere. I have a iPad in the house that is used for home automation and it’s within range of the meater base when cooking outside so this feature works great. Shame the meater block has taken so long to come out but with the style of cooking I do I think I will be fine with just the one but I’m curious if multiple probes can be connected to the meater+ base. I don’t see me using them on steaks, chicken, burgers on the grill as I have a feeling the flame temps with be too much for the ambiant temp sensor but if I do and keep a controlled cook then I will def be getting more.

After reading about this sensor I pulled the trigger and ordered it. The business part of the probe's position in the meat needs careful placement. It's not at the tip like my other probes. I really like its app. Very user friendly and it tells you everything you could possibly need to know including expected total cook time as it goes.... live time. It provides a graph of the cooking temps/time of both the int. temp of the meat and the cooker's ambient temp and it remains available to look at in the future. Very cool. They are not kidding when they say to thoroughly clean, and remove any smoke stain from the non-pointy end. If you don't get every bit of it cleaned off the probe will go dead overnight due to not getting a clean contact when it's in its charger. I am anxious to rotisserie a chicken with it. One hole. Raise the lid once to remove the bird when the alarm goes off. Ideal for rotisserie cooks! Oh, and it works real well for use in an air fryer too. I cooked a couple of chicken breast halves in mine and there was no guess work on when the pieces were done with this probe. they came out perfect. You just have to place the probe exactly like they instruct, including its relative attitude to the sensor's orientation (sideways to it). Thumbs up!

Avid backyard barbecuer. Was in the market to replace my oldschool thermometer dial probe with a digital one and came across the Meater+. Checked out their site and compared to some of the other digital ones the design and description of the Meater+ caught my attention so I decided to try it out. Skeptical because I just spent $100 on a thermometer but I have to say it was money well spent. I like the compact design and magnetic battery cover. The phone app was easy to navigate through, thermometer was easy to turn on and once I had everything set and the meat on the grill the rest was easy also. I just left it alone and reluctantly walked away - I’m usually one to stand by the grill and tend to the meat. Had no problem keeping tabs from my phone inside or out in front of the house. Got the 130 temp notification and cut my steak in half to see a perfect medium rare. Can’t wait to try it on other meats on the grill and I’m going to get another to keep and use in the kitchen. Highly recommend as a bbq and kitchen tool.

I bought the plus model. Was still wary from reading reviews. I had been using grocery store thermometers and had undercooked and wasted 2-3 chickens and a turkey breast over the last few months. I decided to bite the bullet and spend some money on something better. I had a chicken all lined up for the air fryer and was disappointed to read that this thermometer needs to charge for 4 hours first. Perfect excuse to eat out. Next night: I slid the thermometer in between the thigh and breast until it was past the line on the thermometer. Placed the turkey In the airfryer, set the temp, and went to the couch. The thermometer and my phone connected quickly and it showed my the ambient temp and current chicken temp. It let me pick an alarm temp and even was able to estimate time to completion accurately. Yesterday I made Cornish game hens and they were perfect. Tips: The base station needs to be within a few feet of the actual thermometer to work. Our Thermador ovens are not magnetic so I have to set it in the cupboard above. I have used it 15-20ft away from my phone but the base station and probe MUST be in close proximity. It does not seem to correctly read the temp in our convection oven. Cons: The base station/charger is cheap looking. The magnetic back was a nice touch and I’m happy it works well but the quasi-fake bamboo look means it goes in a drawer when not in use. Update: Using this with the Kamado Joe/Big Green Egg a few times a week now. The ambient temp reading is decent for smoking meats. It has plenty of battery life (it’s gone for 12+ hours). Pork Butts, Brisket, and Smoked Chickens.

This product does EXACTLY what they say. You stick the probe in some type of meat, put the meat on a grill or in the oven, and the phone app tells you precisely when to take it off the heat. Everything you cook simply comes out perfectly cooked. Because it is a monolithic unit (no wires to a base), it's ideal for rotisserie cooking. The price is a little steep but you will never have to peek to see if your meat is cooked. It's a snap to clean, being made of stainless steel with a ceramic thermal insulator. So few products actually work as advertised that I felt compelled to review this one because it does. It literally makes the investment in a quality grill worthwhile.

5 stars, I am loving the MEATER so far! For me it was easy to use, works fine despite the negative reviews, and is almost too handy. I don't know what all the negative reviews are, but I suspect alot of it is operator error and or not following the instructions. I did get the "gen 2" model though, maybe they worked all the kinks out by Gen 2. That said, I have owned the unit for just over a month. I have used the unit at least 5 times. 3 of those 5 times were just tests to make sure the unit works and was accurate. It did, and it was. Since testing I have done 2 cooks with the unit. The first cook was "open air" on a large rotisserie cooking a whole lamb. That went well. The other cook was a 1.5" thin rib-eye completely enclosed inside a smoker. On the smoker cook, I put the charger/repeater about 5 feet from the smoker, and had no issues with connectivity at all. Admittedly, I did not test to see if the full range of 165 feet was accomplished with this configuration, but it did work fine for me while I wandered around between 25 -30 feet away. I mentioned the completely enclosed detail because so many said they could not get theirs to even work in this situation. As mentioned above, I think if you follow the directions, the unit works fine. I also want to mention that for this cook the smoker was set to a temp of 450. The unit too the heat no problem and is still working. Clean up is easy, you can definitely get the thing wet and it will survive as long as you don't leave it submerged. Pros Very handy, small, wireless, app tells you when you hit the target. Cons I wish the charger had more indication on it, or an additional probe is fully charged indicator. One thing to note: If you are cooking a steak or smaller piece of meat at a high temp, I would recommend setting the desired temp a few degrees lower than what you want the final temp of the meat to be due to the continued cooking effect after removing the meat from the heat. This has nothing to do with the operation of the MEATER.

When I found out that an even longer ranged version of this product came out I had to get it. I love the original thermometer but to get the extra range I needed a second phone of which I do not have. But anyway, having this plus version really helps. It's really smart of them to put a signal booster for the Bluetooth inside the charger! When you use it though make sure to keep the charger close to your oven. If you're on the fence about spending the extra $$ for this plus version, don't be, get the plus...you'll thank me later.

I own the original Meater thermometer from their crowdfunding days and it’s changed the way I cook. The best feature for me is the cooking time estimate which tells you how long to cook your meat and when it is ready to come out of the oven (the app will alert you!). It’s so convenient, I don’t know how I could’ve cooked before without knowing this information. I got this new version, the plus model, because I wanted to walk farther away from the kitchen and still be able to see the time estimator and temperatures. I can now walk in all the rooms on the first floor and almost reach the farthest bedroom on the second floor. For those just getting the product, (the manufacturer told me they are going to fix this) when you get started, make sure you only pair the charger to the app and not the meater probe. This is because the probe pairs with the charger automatically, and the charger pairs to the app. And lastly, leave the charger close to your oven since that is what boosts the signal. Anyway, I hope those tips will help the other customers since it’s not explicitly mentioned in the app or instructions (I had to contact their support line). Great job Apption Labs! Just fix your instructions.

I've struggled my adult life trying to cook. Even basic recipes I manage to ruin the meat. So I gave up and ate out almost every meal. This was unhealthy and I gained a LOT! of weight and have high blood pressure. When I saw the original Meater, I was intrigued with the idea of something automating cooking steaks in particular. I bought the original Meater about 5 months ago and it really did change my life. I still eat out, but only 2-3 times per week. I have lost weight, have more energy, and blood pressure went down. All in 5 months. Even if you don't buy a Meater, just stop eating out and it helps. A few days ago, I saw this new Meater+ that now has a built in extender in the charger. I received it 2 days ago and have made Ribeye and Tri-tip already. It works great. With Meater (original one) I used an old iPhone next to Weber BBQ that would connect probe to Wifi. Then I used my iPhone to connect to probe anyway in the house. I have an access point in my house and could stay connected down the street. With Meater+, no iPad is needed now. The wood charger now extends the Bluetooth signal from probe. How it works is you just leave the charger next to BBQ and it extends the signal really far. I didn't measure the exact distance but my BBQ is in the back yard and my office is on the other side of the house upstairs. Connected perfectly and I answered emails while my steak was cooking. When alarm went off, I went back downstairs and had a perfect ribeye! Even tells you how long to let it sit before you cut it up. Couple tips- I updated the original Meater app on my iPhone and make sure you do the initial charge for 4 hours. I was so anxious that I tried connecting probe to iPhone out of box and it wouldn't connect. I thought it was defective. But then I let it charge for a few hours and then it worked perfectly.

You know how hard it is to cook chicken breasts "just right"? A minute or two too soon and they are undercooked. A minute or two too late and they are dry and overcooked. No more. Used this on a baked chicken breast dinner last night and, for the first time in my life, perfect chicken cutlets. Great app to go with it. Love it. Tip... the first time you will want to use this it will want to download an update to the app. It takes 10 minutes or so to download and update. Plan for this when using the first time.
