Love this product

I love this produce..It was my first portable Bluetooth speaker but I tried several before making my decision and I don't regret this purchase. The only issue that I have is at full volume the sound quality isn't super clear but I expected this as the speaker is very loud to begin with. I've used this speak almost every day since I've purchased it here on Amazon. Speaking of Amazon they had the cheapest price on this product. Walmart had it prices at 140 plus tax here in NY. We also purchased a protective case which made portability super easy and I'd recommend purchasing one as it makes portability super easy and without it portability would be difficult. I'd like to note that I purchased a Blackweb speaker that was smaller for 49.00 at Walmart and it was a huge waste of time and money. I strongly recommend that anyone purchasing a portable Bluetooth speaker spend the extra money and get this JBL CHARGE 4 The only thing that I don't like about this product is that there isn't a charging plug which makes zero sense to me because there's a charging cable.

Incredible BT speaker!

This JBL Charge 4 is the most powerful portable speaker I have ever owned, for such a small speaker to pump out that much sound, it’s almost ridiculous. The bass is solid, it does not rock the house, but I definitely incredible for a portable speaker. That said the highs could be better but I don’t mind it much as this will be mainly used outdoors and garage as we have dedicated speakers inside the home. The ability to charge and play music from an external connected device is a great feature too, strong battery life as advertised (I have yet to drain a full charge yet). I would also like to suggest a solid carrying case for the speaker as well https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JPXCJQ9 it holds the Charge 4 plus charging cables, it’s well made, solid outer shell, great price, must have to transport and store the Charge 4. Great portable speaker!

In depth review for jbl charge 4

The JBL charge 4 is a great product. I found it to be initially disappointing due to the warm sound signature. I have found that the highs aren’t totally accurate but they’re close enough to not distract you from the music. The highs are present but definitely aren’t strong which adds to the warm signature. The mids are very good and exceptionally clear for the size of this device. Because of this, the vocals are great in most songs. They are well represented unless they sneak up on the high notes which is when you can hear a slight distortion from accuracy. However, the vocals which dip into lower range sound really good as the speaker does a great job not to put too much emphasis on the radiators making it sound bassy and unrealistic. If you listen to high quality hifi tracks you’ll be able to imagine the singer right in front of you because of the presence and sound stage. As for the mono speaker, don’t listen to the critics of this new implementation because most of them either don’t know what they’re talking about or they are just picking at it because they don’t like the thought of it. You’re not going to get stereo by using 2 speakers 3 inches apart like on the last model and as for separation, this mono speaker separates just fine if not better than the last model especially in mid to lows. The speaker gets plenty loud for the average person and it manages to maintain its dynamics all the way to just under full volume. I’ve compared this speaker to many others such as charge 3, xb30, xb31, xb20, extreme, onyx... and what I’ve found is that while the highs are a bit lacking in certain songs it certainly makes up for it in other departments. The bass is very good in the charge 4. The bass notes are represented accurately and it’s able to hit lower frequencies most portable speakers of this size can’t (20). However, it’s worth mentioning it’s still no sub. This speaker has trouble representing very low frequencies. The radiators start shaking instead of making music which for those of you who don’t know (this doesn’t sound very good). The battery life of this speaker wasn’t as advertised and I found I could only get 9 hours on 60 percent volume which isn’t bad but is a huge deviation from the claimed 20 hours. After using this speaker for awhile and comparing it to other speakers, I’ve actually grown fond of this unit and it’s become my beach toy. Don’t take any critics in this review too seriously as I doubt most people are 50% as critical as me when it comes to audio but this one gets my thumbs up. Future improvements would definitely require a tweeter and possibly a bigger battery.

I love JBL and harman!

I always buy JBL because it's a great product and also the warranty via HARMAN is incredible. Not to say these units suck, but there's been 2 times where in my work environment "lots of water" where the speaker kinda got muffled. HARMAN always has a great warranty on their products and sent me a new one both times. I'm a huge fan of the charge 2 and 3! As far as the JBL CHARGE 4. I just got it today at walmart for $124.00 , a lot cheaper than amazons 149.95! Free market is kicking amazon's butt. Anways, doesn't come with a usb cable, but it takes the USB-C to USB-A cord... not the ones like the older jbl devices. Luckily I have one. Sounds pretty good so far. I'll come back and update this in a week and see about giving it a full 5 after taking it to work. UPDATE: I went from 4 stars to a straight up 5 stars. Sounds great. Awesome in my watery nasty work environment. I mean it's freaking nasty inside where I work. Sounds incredible!!!! I'm not using it as a phone charger or bank as you have that option, but i have this cranked up super loud for my 12 hour shifts and the battery is topkek! Buy it if you like the charge 2 and 3 or anything HARMAN! Again, I scored mine at walmart for only 124.99 new. Walmart's beating amazons butt as of late with walmarts in store purchases. Heck you can get a charge 3 in walmart in store for 84 dollars. BUT GET THE CHARGE 4! 5 STARS!

Great speaker despite not being true stereo

The big debate about this speaker not being stereo like the Charge 3 is really a mute point when the speakers on the charge 3 are only a few inches away from each other anyway. Not enough stereo separation to make ANY difference in real world listening environments, in my opinion. I found the sound quality and loudness of the C4 to be very impressive for such a small Package and would not use the fact that it only has one main speaker in front affect your buying decision at all ! Great little speaker and long battery life....just what I was looking for

Good product but no speakerphone

I bought this last week. The speaker sound quality & volume is good & I was happy with the purchase. I bought this after seeing on JBL website that the speaker has speakerphone support. Plz note this speaker DOES NOT have speakerphone feature. The information on JBL website is wrong. I chatted with their tech support & they confirmed that they will remove this description from their website.

Great shower/bathroom speaker!

I've had and utilized the UE Roll 2 speaker for the past 2 years, with no real major issues (a couple minor; the covering for the charge port deformed over time to become unable to close, so no longer was waterproof), but was slightly annoyed at how quiet it was; not that it WAS quiet, mind you. The shower at the apartment complex I moved to about a year back has old plumbing, so while in the shower, with the Roll speaker on the toilet, I could baaarely hear the music; the water pressure is pretty high and theirs no regulating it, so I dealt with it for a while. Finally broke and got the Charge 4 after looking at reviews of various speakers for ~2 months. Seemed like far and away the best waterproof "portable"-ish speaker out there currently. So I got it last month and... Holy. Crap. This thing blows the Roll 2 (and the previous speaker I had before that one, the Altek iMW255-BLU Mini H2O) out of the water! Before I go into that though, a word of caution: it is a LOT bigger than I expected (about a forearm's length), and much heavier than my previous speakers (feels like roughly the weight of a gallon of milk), so I can see where past reviews hedged on it been on the cusp of "portable" (and hence my coining of the term "portable-ish"). I could see myself strapping it to the top of my assault pack/ now-campus-backpack (and I will later this month and provide pics) for my walking commute to and from the school; I imagine that it'll play merry hell with the balance of the pack on my back. I also imagine that if I don't remember to turn down the sound before doing so, It'll damage what's left of my hearing that Uncle Sam didn't take. The reason I say that is that this beast can get REALLY loud. Like if I want to, it'll drown out my singing in the shower easily. I actually don't turn it up all the way (3 "down presses" on the volume roughly) because I worry I'll get a noise complaint from my upstairs neighbor lol. The sound is amazing btw! Like, I had no idea that portable speakers could HAVE bass; it thumps quite nicely in the latrine. I have no complaints for it whatsoever. Bluetooth is responsive, hasn't run out of battery yet after 3 weeksish of daily use. Overall, great speaker!

The BIG REASON to choose over Megoboom 3

New Megaboom has no AUX input Might not be a big deal to other but occasionally I like to use an Aux cable to connect to a speaker. 1. Wired sound is better than Bluetooth 2. Battery lasts longer in both Speaker and source if BT off/not used 3. Not all sources have BT or have fiddly BT connection. Just my two cents.. I see pro reviewers not mention the missing AUX on Mega 3

Sounds great and has plenty of colume

I've been using a JBL Flip 2 for the past couple of years so I felt confident in the brand. The JBP Charge 4 is fantastic. It has a good, solid, durable feeling in the hand and the sound quality is great. The volume is fantastic. On my bike I run it at like 4 out of 10 and it's blasting. If you're looking for a studio speaker this isn't it, but if you're looking for something to take out on your bike, or on a picnic, or out in the woods, or in the workshop then this is it. It's a fantastic speaker and well worth the purchase.

If money isn't issue for you, you need to upgrade your mid size portable speaker to charge4 anyway.

Before charge4, I believe Denon dsb 250bt is the best midsize portable Bluetooth speaker. However charge4 really surpasses 250bt to me in sound scale, dynamic, bass response, loudness, and friend to use. 250bt may have wider sound stage, more balance sound. But lack of scale, slow resonance, lay back mid. So Denon doesn't do great job on electric, rock, pop music. charge4 with no issue on these genre except metal which makes charge4 struggling sometime. Usually you may think Denon will win on classical and jazz anyway. Unfortunately I don't think so. Classical piano like Mozart piano sonata as example, Denon gives more transparent treble, while jbl charge4 provides piano scale at low frequency and mid. Treble may be not as extension as Denon but it's absolutely enough for me. Charge4 playing classic Jazz 1950- 1970 is brilliant while Denon always miss bass and sax scale. Jbl charge4 is great improvement from charge3. It's not easy to be seen by the person only listening to boom boom music. Quite lot YouTube comments really underrated charge4. To me it's best mid range speaker so far. Mono sound isn't matter for this kind small speaker. Charge4 has much better sound separation than charge3 which has 2 full range units. Don't be fooled by simply reading the specifications and you even don't understand specifications meaning well. Listen it with your favorite music. Don't trust YouTube review too much even some one with million subscription.
